Sounds like TM/Adams gear, Addidas shoes and Ashworth clothing for the Big E.
Yup. TM, Adams and Adidas I all knew of, but I forgot they owned Ashworth too. I wasn't sure who the 4th company was. That answers it.

English switching to Cally is surprising IMO. He won twice this year with their equipment. Gotta strike while the iron's hot but when you're successful like that, it's gamble to change clubs. Hope it works out for him. He's a rising star for sure.
I wonder if the club switch was already in the works before he won his first tournament.

I think Harris English is a great pick up for Callaway. Not as high profile as some others but I definitely think he'll be at least a one tournament a year winner and probably contend in a few majors every now and then.

Graham DeLaet and Hale Irwin to Cobra/Puma
Is this confirmed? I think delaet would be a good fit for Puma/Cobra
Oh yes…by a very reliable inside source.
This would be interesting move since Irwin played the King Cobra stuff to such success and Delaet is such a solid ball-striker.
So…because DeLaet is a solid ball striker means he is too good for Cobra products…how is this interesting?
Just noticing this comment after coming back into this thread. How in the world did you get that anyone said "DeLaet is too good for Cobra products" out of that? Interesting that Irwin going back to company where he had great deal of past success, also think DeLaet would be good pick up because of his ballstriking ability. It is also somewhat unusual for a player gaining traction and improving on tour to make a change, so he must feel equipment is good.

I posted this is the Style/Fashion section as well but has anyone heard about Kuchar leaving ECCO and going to Ashworth? He is wearing the Cardiff's at Tiger's Tourney.

Not surprised. Callaway is going after younger players to gain more appeal with the young golf population that typically doesn't play their equipment.

How do you get this info??
I never could understand why Callaway was always considered "for old guys". But I work part time for a DSG in the golf department, and literally every 50+ male that comes into the store, I can just b-line it to the Callaway section and meet him there... every time.

It's a good look for them to start projecting that younger image for sure, and they really put some horses in their stable. The asian players they have and have picked up recently are some studs. That's another thing I noticed, Callaway is rockstar status in Asia.
It's just the turn of the calendar combined with brand loyalty, I guess.

Callaway made the big splash with the Big Bertha, and then the Great Big Bertha. And, near legendary customer service (which seems to have fallen off in the post-Ely Callaway world). The guys who really bought in to Callaway then are now 20 years older, but I'm guessing you're seeing the loyalists who bought in to that brand in a big way in the 90s, and haven't gone anywhere else since.

Total guess, obviously.

Unrelated comment: like seeing MCoz posts again. Regularly enjoyed them years ago on another forum, glad to see him still around, serving the goods...

Delaet is SUCH a natural fit for Cobra/Puma. Dude bombs it and hits a ton of greens, has a more modern/flashy style as shown by his Sligo Wear deal, and they're kind of buying low. He's has a bunch of injuries that have held him back, but if he can stay healthy the sky's the limit.

Sorry, I wasn't sure if you were being facetious or serious. :)

A lot of folks liked to say he must be with Maxfli, but it tended to come from other company fans who were unhappy his reports showed Maxfli balls ahead of their personal favorites.

He wasn't in the golf industry, just a good player with a lot of good playing friends who was somewhat connected.

You guys are "dating" all of us!
But now that you are at it, to clear it up a little:
I did not work for Maxfli or anyone else then or now.
Yes in the late 90's into the early 2000s, I ran a pretty comprehensive "players" or Tour golf ball test. It was a lengthy examination that often took several weeks to complete by testing each ball type under all kinds of playing, turf and weather conditions. To do so the testing usually had to be in the spring but weather had something to say. Also I involved other golfers of various levels and we tested different types and brands of clubs so as not to have any advanced technology give an advantage to a particular ball.
The time involved and necessary to do it properly was eventually too much after several years of doing it. And while the results were reported to some of the companies and online, it was fully funded by myself. I had to acquire dozens and dozens of each ball type for the testing. I did not want balls that came directly from the companies because I knew of at least one company earlier (and suspected another) that had a stash of "hot" balls that they used to send out prior to the official release to get a major buzz going about how long they were so that everyone would line up to buy them as soon as they could causing a bit of hysteria. If I did receive some direct balls, I would then trade them to a retailer for the exact ball type on the shelf although brand new models were a little tougher to get.
The problem was is that was when the Maxfli Revolution came out and seriously overshadowed (and overwhelmed) the competition which led to the death of the Titleist Tour Professional. People actually, unbelievably, blamed me for some of that. I wish I had that kind of control.
in something. The Rev and its successor the A10 were that great they always placed first in overall totaled results of at the end. They did not win every individual category every year as some want to recall. Where Maxfli failed was in the marketing eventually by continuing to describe those balls as "wound" thinking that's what the better players wanted, even though they really weren't in the traditional sense. That -layer between the core and the cover was actually a web-like looking layer that really was not wound. Titleist clearly out-marketed them when they released the ProV1s after a disastrous one year trial with another ball that was between the Tour Professional and the PV1s. Amazingly when TMAG bought Maxfli they initially did no better in their attempts to market balls either. Their failures led them to essentially "killing off" the brand and replacing it with TM. Pretty ironic now when so many "Titleheads" (as they were referred to long ago) call TM a marketing company and think Acushnet is and was not one.
By the way I liked Matt Pavin, anyone know what has happened to him? I flew from Atlanta to Dallas with Corey a couple of years ago and I forgot to ask him.
