What's your most enjoyable form of golf?

Makes sense. I played wolf with a group of friends years ago, but they had the rules a bit mixed up. The wolf being the first to tee off as opposed to the last person on a hole. We also had an rule where the loan wolf had to win outright. Push = Lose for the LW, which was kind of backwards in my mind. If you're gonna have that feature, the LW should win a push in a 1 vs 3 matchup, or you should have a push be a push. When we tried to play it with 5, the scoring/dots got all F'd up. Beers didn't help

This is how we play our game: Everyone throws balls on the first tee. Closest to the designated marker gets first choice of hitting order, next closest gets 2nd choice so on and so forth.

Wolf tees off first. If they elect to go line before they tee off, increments triple. If they don’t, wolf must choose their partner before the next person tees off (I.e. once the 3rd person tees off, the 2nd person is no longer eligible to be picked). If the wolf goes lone after everyone tees off, increments double. A push is a push, no matter what the teams are.

Last 3 holes are played differently, we call it Texas Wolf or Super Wolf. Whoever is down the most can play for up to half of what they’re down and gets to see everyone tee off before they have to select a partner.

We also have a team trash game that is being played in addition to wolf, but that’s not completely necessary. We’re just degenerates that have to have action on most every hole.

Play as close to the rules as possible given the condition of the course and the pace needed to keep things moving on a crowded course - however how another wishes to relate to the rules is not my concern as long as it does not endanger others or the course and woefully impede pace - but prefer to walk, play alone at the end of the day - be the last person on the course - and observe the rules as best I remember them, even marking my ball to clean it prior to putting. Afterward, sit and enjoy something cool - usually Nuun-flavored water (I have simple tastes!), total the stats and make a few notes about the round. Go home, hug the honey, then be walked by the dog.

From...

A... Sunny day, a VO n Lemonade, good tunes n good boyz.

Z... Intense Club Championship.

Or somewhere in between like our annual Ryder Cup where we get paired with random guys playing against random dudes.

Sorry for the vague answer but it's ALL good golf!

Most enjoyable format for me and my friends is scotch. Low handicap is paired with high in the group against the middle two. We play 6 point for a dollar a point. Roll re roll...I.e. the team that is down can press single holes as much as they want. Each team also gets 1 press per side that can only be used if your down. Most of the time we also do a $20 per man 18 hole best ball match play between the teams.

Banker also gets played if we have an odd number.

The foursome I play with will occasionally play 2 man teams, best ball. Makes for a little friendly competition and of course some trash talk.

On Sundays we play with a larger group of around 15-20. Everyone puts up $10 to play. That game is just straight stroke play with skins and closest to the pin on all par 3's. At the end of the round we collect all scores and draw teams with A,B,C,D players. Team scores are calculated using best ball format. Winning team splits half the pot with the rest being divided up among the skins and closest to the pins. Fun format that also gives the lesser skilled guys a chance at winning some money.

Toss up for me between tournament medals and our 4 man stableford money games. The latter the moreso when you're the horse your team rides to win and you get a nice payout.

Honestly, probably scrambles. I moved away from where most of my golf buddies are at, and generally when I drive back it is to play some sort of scramble. Not the purest form of golf, but definitely the rounds I look forward to most. A close second would be match play.

I have been lifelong friends with 2 other members on this forum and we all play to a pretty close handicap. My favorite rounds always include those 2. We always walk and there is constant joking around but the golf is competitive. Whether we play for money or just ego, its never a dull moment. Truly thankful for this game.

Medal play, and preferably in a big tournament or with lots of $$$ on the line.

My work does a tourney twice a year against another venue locally. Our 12 best golfers vs their best 12. The head guys work out the pairings to keep it fair. We play a Ryder cup format. 6 Captian, 6 alternate shot and 6 best ball. My usual partner and I are close in handicap and it we always wind up in a dog fight. The last one we did we won 3.5 to .5, Despite that number it was a battle for each point. I look forward to these 2 events every year.

4X4GGG, you reminded me of the annual dog fight I have with an old friend of mine. ALWAYS close, ALWAYS tenuous and ALWAYS a blast.

Some of you might notice that this homemade trophy was fashioned from an old Gus (s)Macker basketball trophy (sons).
