LOL true to form a sarcastic remark. Well done.
Really like to see Justin play better. Hard to blame the quality of Honma clubs. Justin may need to find a new coach and fire Foley given the swing issues he mentioned recently. In 2018 Justin was #6 in ball striking and in 2020, #221 in ball striking.
I'll never understand why a player at the top of his game would sign an equipment contract with an unproven or different company for the sake of the endorsement money.. if you lose your game you lose your livelihood. We all know how mental golfers are with their equipment...if the slightest bit of doubt creeps in your game goes to s*.
So it's Monday, has there been an announcement yet?
Exactly. They build clubs in San Diego, and they are currently hiring.
The reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated.
Trust me, Honma doesn't suck. The XP-1 Hybrids I am currently bagging are the best hybrids I have ever played. Beat out all other OEMs offerings, for me, of course.
They are, but the comment was regarding his apparel.
He's done a full Bubba here. Took delivery of the truck load of cash before taking delivery of the club's he'd have to use day in, day out. Tough call when his long time friend is who pulled him over to the brand.
Honma - "we've agreed to part ways."
is what i'd expect.
You realize he won his first tournament with them in the bag and finished 2nd at the us open with them in the bag right.
Has Sean Foley ever made anyone good? Hunter Mahan was one of his students and he's fallen very far from where he used to be.
I absolutely do, and that's what surprised me the most. He's now got a full bag to TM so I don't think that Rosey thinks a win is coming any time soon with the Honma clubs.
At least Rosey tested the clubs himself and didn't let Lordy do it, after all Bubba took a 1mil pay out after Ted tested the ball for him.
Don't get me wrong I've hit some of the Honma stuff since they've upped their presence in Europe and it's quality is undeniable. But he's ditched all 13 clubs that he had and an announcement is imminent.
I'd love it if just one guy said "I'm being paid a shed tonne of $$$ to game this stuff and that's the bottom line".
it might not be about what results thought was or wasn’t going to happen with honma in the bag. One of the issues with TM and his contract was the flexibility he wasn’t going to have to use putter tech and what TM wanted from him. King had gone to Honma who Rose has a relationship with. That led to the signing and Rose had input into the design of the clubs and flexibility with what was on the bag by signing a 10 club deal. King leaves Honma in the summer time and now that relationship with the brand changes. We don’t know the behind the scenes issues and what may have taken place with design input and what Honma could or couldn’t do and we may not even get that insight in the statement from either side.
It could easily be about input and possible contract language around that and maybe even if King left that caused this divorce.
It makes sense for him to go to full bag if TM in the short term since he has familiarity with the performance until he can figure out what his next step is.
Sometimes it’s not about the money and I don’t know if he can get a big time contract again at this point in his career
Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but have to wonder if Rose leaving Honma was a relationship driven change. Mark King was the TMAG NA president when Rose was with them, and King was a "strategic adviser" for Honma when Rose signed with them. Mark King leaves Honma to go run Taco Bell, and a few months later Rosey follows him out the door and returns to familiar environs. Pretty sure the dynamics at play are all but identical to those behind the recent exodus from the PXG playing staff.
I’m sorry this is such a stupid comment/question. Rose started working with Foley back in 2009 when he didn’t even have a win on the PGA tour and was struggling.
Look at what Rose has achieved in that time and that will answer your stupid half arsed question
bcflyguy1, don't apologize you and GoGoErky both restated what I said previously on pg5 just gave it more detail. That's a great and that's how we help everyone out. There is no issue with the irons or wedges. Its all about business (M.King), money & contract, And then to the smallest margin the driver, 3W & 5w and shafts.
TaylorMade M5 10.5* - LA Ozik TPHDE 6X shaft
TaylorMade M1 5w, 17.5* - Fujikura Pro TS 83s
Srixon Zu85 3i - Matrix Ozix Program F15 120X
Bridgestone J15cb 4-pw - Matrix Ozix Program F15 120X
Honma TW-W4 - 50,54,58* - Fujikura MCI Solid 125
Piretti Matera Elite @ 32.75
Custom TaylorMade Spider X (Blacked Out - no sight-line)
When did Mark King leave? I need to figure out how long until I need to take out a short position on Taco Bell ...
If we see a giant Taco Bell logo on JR's golf bag we will certainly have our answer.
Pretty sure if you gave almost any professional 36 mulligans for 36 holes, their score would improve. That's a ridiculous statement and proves literally nothing. He missed the cut at the Honda as well with different clubs. He missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance as well, again, with different clubs in and out of the bag. You're proving my point, that the equipment he plays holds no value on his performance at the moment. You're not hearing what I'm saying. It's not Honma's fault or TaylorMade's fault. Yes, I believe what I posted.
Even the best players on this forum aren't in the same league in terms of precision and feel in equipment as a guy like Rose. IF that feel equates to confidence, then it is absolutely a valid argument. He's looking for trajectory windows down to the foot.
Lolol, other than Justin Rose what's he got to hang his hat on besides being one of the very few coaches Tiger didn't win a major with. Rose got all the way up to #6 in the world before working with Foley. Hunter Mahan? Stephen Ames? Sean O'Hair? It's funny how you're basing a teachers entire success upon 1 student, but I guess you were too busy trying to be funny you half arsed your response.
Sides are still talking and nothing expected before the players per Wall
Don't know if there is any truth to this rumor but I read on Twitter that the Honma rep removed the clubs from his bag at the API. He had no choice but to fill his bag up with anything he could find. Might make sense why he had Project X in play may of been someones backup set or something.
Hes going back to Greatness!!! He had problems with the putter when he first switched.
If true that would be insane as why wouldn't Honma want more free tv time.
