The reviews are great, didn't mean it as I was taking anything away from the review. I was just curious because it happens to me all the time and when I saw your numbers I thought the same thing.
Didn't take it that way at all Dizz.. all good!
I really think you could use either machine and get great results. Best case scenario would be testing them all the same day with the same ball and the same conditions. Either machine will be accurate enough for same day testing to be pretty much perfect as far as data goes...

But I think it skews data a little bit when you use different machines and skews it slightly less when it's different days. However I of course realize that's not always possible... Also I think your driver shootouts are as good as anything else I've seen as far as comparing high end drivers with reliable data. I really enjoyed your playing or "on course" part of the reviews as well.

I don't think our members realize how much time and effort goes into a simple review as detailed as yours for one club let alone a whole shootout... Factor in acquiring the clubs, shafts and adapters... Time on TrackMan, the write up, the pictures and editing to make them easy to read on WRX...,

I just wanted to say I don't take them for granted and truly enjoy reading your results and findings!

I don't know why but I'm just finding this thread now.

Thanks again Tai for doing all of this for us. I got to say the black r15 looks much better to me than white (never a fan of the white). But I think I like the old SLDR grey flake better. I guess I wish they stayed with that color. I'm definitely going to give the r15 460 a try. It just seems like it's going to be hard to beat the SLDR 460 enough to warrant replacing it for me.

Thanks again for doing this.

Just read all 7 pages so all caught up and ready for the show! BTW, hopefully you can get your hands one of the new Cobra Fly Z drivers also. Played with a European Tour guy last week that was visiting his wife here in So Cal and he said he'd been fitted for the new driver and it added 10 to 15 yards of carry compared to his Bio Cell with the same 6.2 TS shaft so it looks like that line with the new face technology is also worth a look at.

I hope you get a Cobra Fly Z + to test with your favorite shaft as I am hearing very positive things from insiders on this one. This and the DBD are the drivers of interest for me next season.

Should be able to get my hands on that one too. I have heard great things about it as well, and the 3 wood is still in my bag.. it's nasty!

Nope.

Tai, do you think you'll add the Srixon 745 to the shootout? I hit one the other day and it impressed me more than the DBD or 915D3
I hadn't planned on it, I'll take another look at it though. Trying not to make the Shootout too overbroad with drivers, in the past I typically only hit clubs I was genuinely interested in buying. Srixon isn't really on my radar, but I saw one the other day and it looked pretty good from address.

Tai, do you do all of this in one day? That's insane, I would be very fatigued!
The Trackman session comparing numbers will all be done in one day, that's the only way for the numbers to have any sort of relevance and consistency. Last year it took me 3 tries to get it right, with finding an adequate location to do the shootout. The other 2 sessions were wastes of time and money, but Cool Clubs was perfect. I plan on doing it there again this year. The good thing about the outdoor Trackman session with all setups at the same time is that you can narrow the selections down much quicker to see what is working and what is not working and then go from there. I'm hitting my driver the best I have hit it in a long time, so anything that's better will be a great addition to my bag :)

I am guessing that is a no for the Mizuno 850 driver?
Probably not, trying to stick to the drivers I am most likely to actually use. Mizuno has been irrelevant in the driver category, but if it's that good, I will try it.

Tai,
Just curious as to what your driver shaft of choice would be if the Rogue was not available?
Matt
Probably the 757, it was the closest in terms of #'s to the Rogue 125 last year when I did this. There are some new shafts coming out that I'd be interested in trying, but the Rogue has been really good and I don't see a reason to change (yet).
Tai, have you tried UST Chrome and if so did Rogue outperform it? Thanks for all your reviews on equipment.
Yes, I have one now. It's "smoother" but the dispersion and sidespin is much worse than the Rogue 125, it was very noticeable on the course. It's a good shaft though.
No chance.

Both irons look really solid! I tried the new RSi but non-TP, it was okay. The Srixon is a great looking club.

I am looking forward to the shootout as well. I am really interested to see if how the Nike Flex and SLDR hold up against the new Fly Z and R15. The numbers look pretty good at this point on the R15. Which driver are you bagging currently the Vapor or SLDR?

Man you gotta get the Srixon 545 or 745 or both in this. Forged cup face technology, great feel and really high ball speeds. Solid adjustability and really look good at address.

That was my attempt at humor, but someone had asked and he already said no chance. We don't send equipment to wrx'ers for testing. It's against WRX policy. But we have never lost a head to head ball speed test...Ever. not joking about that.
I don't think he is looking at highest ball speed as the only factor, he is not trying to win a long drive contest and find his next Remax driver.... He is trying to find something that will help hit more fairways while maintaining distance, have a certain ball flight and look/ sound/ feel right.

Considering every time he reviews a new driver ballspeeds seem to go up, I'd say that's at least the biggest factor. He went from 179 SLDR to 181 Vapor to 185 R15.
Tai, if it's not too much of a hassle a lot of us would like to see clubhead speed and and smash factor. Considering these heads all the same COR, these would be nice variables to measure, since we all know (or most of us, at least) distances on launch monitors really mean nothing especially when it's showing a 360 carry for a 185 ballspeed.
My only explanation would be you're gaining more clubhead speed over time with gained strength and whatnot. I'd have a hard time thinking a player of your caliber would be missing the center of the face.

I don't understand some of the posts in this thread.

Pure745 is not paid to do this. These shootout threads take a lot of time and effort to put together. He is putting this information out there as a service to the GolfWRX community.

If the guy doesn't want to purchase a 5th, 6th or 7th driver setup to try, it's not a big deal. Not to mention that the shootout is usually done in one day. We are all human, and only have so many quality driver swings in the tank. Anybody would run out of gas trying to test a dozen drivers.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to sit back, relax and enjoy the thread. It's sure to offer up some valuable info.
