Pure745's 2015 Shootout - 915 D4 Trackman #'s Added

Pure-- I have not tried the 757 Evolution TS yet... what have you heard is different about it? I know I've seen a few posts about members here talking about it but not much as far as real info or data is concerned. I had been away from here for a little while so just getting back into the swing of things of being active again on WRX. You and I are in the same boat-- the 125 MSI Rogue is unbelievable. To me, its an ultimate control shaft... its VERY tight and it feels like you can give it everything you have and it will still swallow it up.... but I was also able to give it my "go-to" move where I'm covering the ball more and on top of it with less speed and its still not overwhelmingly stiff or too stiff when I am not giving it my everything. Does that make sense?

It's just the ultimate control shaft that gives me perfect launch conditions especially in 35 degree NE Ohio temps. I only expect my numbers with it to get better as the temps start to get warmer and I can get the club moving a little faster. BUT it feels so much better than the 95 and 110 MSI Rogues-- again... its a control shaft but it feels so good too. Is it DI smooth? No. The 125 is its own kind of smooth--- like a "powerful smooth" that I've only ever felt with this shaft in particular. In the probably 60 balls I hit with it yesterday I truly felt like when I hit a bad ball it was 100% my fault because I felt like it really cuts down on the side-to-side movement and the ball really doesn't want to move offline. And I know I've read that from you before and I liked the way you said it so I'm citing your work so I don't get busted for plagiarism.

The Rogue 125 is. so. straight. period.

Hope you get the job in Denver, that's my area. I wrote a review for Will Peoples on the 757 TS Evolution. It's on his page comparing it to the Rogue 125 MSI. Check reviews tab on the shaft at his website. Can't wait to see the results of the shootout. Cally DBD and Nike Flex are at the top of my list, but they have to beat out the 915 D3.

I can only speak for myself but hopefully the others feel or felt the same way. Over these past few years, I have followed Pure's journey in golf. In doing so, I feel like I can relate to Pure on some levels and be inspired by him on others.

Pure started doing the shootouts because he wanted to share a true, real world experience that is unbiased. The very same reasons I follow his thread. I feel his results are based on what is the best. Not which company has advertised the most. Plus, I find his shootouts are conducted in a more professional manner than most reviewers that are paid to do so. He represents the everyman.

By me asking if he was going to review a different driver is only done out of respect. I could care less what the other online reviewers say about a certain piece of equipment because who knows what their game is like and who knows if they were paid off. I feel I know what Pure's game is like by following him on this website. Afterall, we are somewhat a family here.

Pure's reviews started out being something to help all of us. If me or any other people on this site has caused Pure any strife, I sincerely apologize. Pure is truly my hero because he is taking on an endeavor that is only for our benefit. Again, I only asked about the Mizuno driver because I value his opinion so much and felt Pure was doing these reviews to help GolfWRX.

I put in motion a kickstarter campaign. I am not sure how to do this but I will gladly donate to help Pure with the expenses.

Thanks for the kind words, and bringing this thread back into perspective. I appreciate the thought and offer related to expenses, but I have them all covered and it's a part of what makes my reviews what they are. I don't work in the golf industry and aside from the OvenWRX trip clubs, I'm not getting other free clubs sent to me to review. Just a fellow WRX member posting my feedback on the new drivers in the event that a few other members might find the info useful :)

Tai,
You may have answered this before, but TM typically tips their shafts 1 inch as std for installation (according to their custom dept) as does Titleist I believe. Do you tip an extra inch on top of that or 1" only.

Edit: referring specifically to shafts with adaptors.

Titleist is .5 for drivers, 1" for fairways and hybrids for aftermarket shafts only.

Most custom club builders ignore those rules as they are essientaly a "guess", tipping to a specific CPM is what most builders do.

Thx for the clarification on Titleist. It's hard to get answers from their customer club dept. They treat it likes it's top secret govt documents.

I did forget to mention I was talking drivers specifically in the earlier post.

Isn't CPM's only measuring butt stiffness? Also wouldnt tipping the shaft affect CPM's less then butt trimming to length?

JW do you stock the 125 for fittings? I've been asking around and nobody is carrying them which is surprising considering the fitting options we have in MI.

Sorry for the delay, I was in Denver for a week for a new job. Hoping for the Nike stuff next week or the week after.. then I'll do the Shootout. The Srixon does look pretty good, I'll try it out before I get a shaft for it.. the new Cobra is on my radar too, gotta pull some strings to see if I can get a head.
Cobra has been my sleeper the last two years. Curious to see how this years PRO head has improved - I was very surprised that the BIO CELL PRO even at a smaller CC was one of the straightest drivers I tested, almost as accurate as the g30 only 20 yards further due to a lower trajectory. Cobra continues to impress me.

Funny people were asking Pure to try the Srixon. I thought they were crazy thinking it was a good driver. A local Sr. PGA player let me hit his 745 the other day, lets just say I have it on order now.

Srixon woods and irons look really good this year. What driver did you have before? What did you end up ordering in the Srixon?

Pure,
You mean what DRIVERS did I have before! (Im a driver ho to the fullest). Currently, playing the Ping G30 with Rogue. That's my go to driver. I have Nike's, Cobra's and SLDR's all sitting around with high end shafts. Waiting on the 815 and BB double diamond to come in. After hitting the Srixon I ordered the 545 and next will be the 745. Yes, I have a problem.

CPMs measure butt frequency, not necessarily butt stiffness.
Also wouldnt tipping the shaft affect CPM's less then butt trimming to length?
The opposite is true. Very generally speaking, the tip is the softest part of the shaft, and the butt is the stiffest part of the shaft. By removing some of the tip section, you've effectively stiffened the shaft. When you remove the butt section, you soften the shaft.

Varying shaft profiles will affect this, obviously. That said, I think it would be rather difficult to make a shaft where the tip was the stiffest part of it, if only for the much smaller diameter. Probably fodder for a different thread. ;)

CPMs aren't particularly useful for comparing different shaft models, but for an individual, given shaft, they have more benefit.

I went to my local box store and they had the Titleist 915D3 with Rogue 110 MSI X flex. For giggles, I decided to take a few swings with this. It's a beast. I cannot handle that shaft and can only imagine what speed you guys that use the 125 are generating.

That said, it felt, terrific. Really smooth and super stable. I cannot compare it to anything else and I've pretty much hit every high end shaft. Must say, in the right hands, this shaft will flat out, perform.

Tai, what length are you playing the driver? I've always played mine rather short: 44.25 If you play your driver shorter than standard, does it feel even more stout? I ask because everything standard that I've tried, except for Titleist, is more than 45.

Please take this the right way but I am surprised by this. If what I have read is correct and it is a $200 upcharge it is half what many shafts are and seems to be "the deal" this year.

When you refer to not different enough, what is closest, the Silver 110? Asking because my local fitter does not have it currently either so looking for a good option.

Walked into PGA today and hit the Srixon. Count me among the interested on this one. Like the E8 4/5 swings failed to register more than 800 spin!

Pure have you run into any drivers in the past that don't spin enough for you on a consistent basis?
