Looking for a little trip advice.

 

Northern Michigan has always been one my favorite destinations, but due to busy summers my groups yearly golf trip has been in the spring for the past 4-5 years, which obviously makes Michigan less than ideal. However, this summer we are going to be getting back up north. Here is the potential itinerary:

 

Trip Dates- Sunday July 7th- Thursday the 11th

 

Sunday- Black Lake (twilight)

Monday- 18 @ Cedar River and 18 @ Hawks Eye

Tuesday- 36 @ Treetops (not sure on courses yet, will need to research some more)

Wednesday- 36 @ Forest Dunes (FD and The Loop)

Thursday- 36@ Arcadia Bluffs (AB and The South Course)

 

That's a lot of rounds. I thought everything with Duke was one and done?

Our group does not mind the "windshield" time, as we are more concerned with playing as nice of courses as we can, within reason price wise.

 

 

So just a couple questions:

 

1- Have any of the courses mentioned gone downhill in the last 4-5 years and should be subbed out?

2- Does anyone have strong recommendations as to which 2 courses to play at TreeTops?

3- The last time I was at Forest Dunes and Arcadia Bluffs neither had 36 holes yet. I would imagine that both the new courses added are worth a play, is that correct?

4- Are there any glaring omissions, course wise, that I have missed and we would be near on any given day?

5- I recall years ago that there were a couple websites that often had "coupons/vouchers" for some of these courses,teetimes4turf auction and possibly another, can someone please refresh my memory on that?

 

 

As always thank you for any help that you can provide. The amount of knowledge in this thread is clearly second to none and hopefully I have not hijacked it in any way.

I don't get up north that often so I'll leave course condition stuff to other guys.

 

I do know both courses at FD and Arcadia are worth playing, especially considering your already on site.

 

Have any of your guys played Kingsley? If not the first thing I would do is figure out if you can get out there and everyone is ok with the price and swap something out for 36 there. They usually do decent pricing for replays so it shouldn't be too bad for a 36 hole day.

 

 

A number of the people in my group have played Kingsley at least once and some have played it multiple times (Big thank you to OW for that).

 

 

I will have to inquire as to how I could get on there again. I am a member of a club here in Ohio so that could potentially be an option, but not sure. Everyone in our group absolutely loves Kingsley and would love to add it to the rotation; just have to find a way to. Possibly, we would then eliminate the 36 at Tree Tops and slot Kingsley on the day in between Forest Dunes and Arcadia.

If you stick with treetops, play Signature and Masterpiece or one of those and three tops, which only takes about 90 minutes but is super fun for betting games.

 

If you play Lochenheath instead, you could add Sundance at A-ga-ming as a 2nd course option.

9 rounds on 9 different courses. So I guess you could say we will be one and done for each course!!

It looks like we're mostly done with the snow for the foreseeable future on the east side of the state, and there's going to be a little bit of a warm up early next week, but not enough to get rid of what fell in the last week. I think the only golf I'm going to be playing is in L.A. in a couple weeks.

For all you A2 area guys. Curious on experiences you've had with MoG club repair work. I've been a MoG for a long time, fittings, purchases, etc., however never had repair work done. Are they pretty good with everything?

I’ve been very happy with the work they have done for me there. I’ve had them do grips, loft and lie adjusting and re-shaft a driver.

Really the only thing I’m looking for is of the new notchback Betti arm lock putters. With so many pros going to that method, I’m interested in giving that style another try

Went over to Carl’s in Plymouth today to hit some balls, and hit a few of the new drivers for fun, and nothing really blew me away. They let you take 3 out at a time, and I only had time for one round of that, and I hit the Epic Flash SZ, the Cobra F9, and The Titleist TS3. I hit the Flash with the shaft from my driver and the other 2 with the HZRDUS Smoke. The Flash didn’t really look like it was much different in performance to mine, the Cobra seemed pretty good, but nothing earth shattering, and the TS3 seemed super spinny if I missed it at all. They don’t have the G410 demos yet, unfortunately.

I’m still probably going to try to get on Trackman with a few different clubs at some point, but right now, it’s looking like I’ll be going into this season with no changes to the bag. What the hell is wrong with me?!

Hi OW. Have a question for you. I have the Max with the 10.5 Alta stiff and I was considering the Tour 65 at 45". How do you think they perform differently? I was fit last year at MoG but my swing has changed quite a bit (lessons etc). The stock shaft is spinning pretty high right now.
