Wilson FG-17s 2-SW. 84-5 maybe? Still feel great at impact. Technology for blades has helped a lot, some of these scoring lines are a little "iffy"! The SW was about D9 before I drilled three holes. Nice kink in the 2 iron hosel. Not sure how many times these might have been bent. Still very playable.

FG-17s are 81 to 83, according to a couple things I've seen.

D9 swingweight sounds lovely. I play my wedges at D8. :)

+1 handicap here. I too used to use mp14's. I went through CG tours, Nike blades, and 714 MB's. Best ones I have played with are the 714's. But I've try'd my buddies clubs and I'd recommend going Japanese. Miura mb001 or tournament blades. Or even srixon 945 or yururi. If you want to do it right, let the Japanese forge it for you.

Two years ago I convinced a 52 year old friend who had outgrown his TM Burner Plus irons to get forged Wilson Staff Tour Blades (brand new, $189 and free shipping from Edwin Watts). The incredible price allowed him to take a chance on them and it payed off, but we had spent hours discussing why it should work which, coincidentally, is what I like about blades: the small head should encourage a higher ball flight, more backspin and a more focused swing. We both thought they had a great feel but I don't know if that was due to forging or their small, dense head.

Got an unexpected surprise from japan today!!!

The family and I are headed to a glass art shop/studio opening tonight to watch some artists blow glass and make sculptures live so I could only open 3 irons (7-9) but condition is exceeded, and club is jaw dropping in head shape for my eyes. The risk paid off, I am happy i did it. I am NOT buying a golf club for at least a year or 2 now, seriously. I will post pics tomorrow, but they are stunners and i am beginning to have the problem of too many sets I WANT to play with, but at the least my range time will be like sleeping with a different woman 3 times a week! These are HOT!!!

Great story.

In regards to feel (and feedback) the head design is a very significant factor. My mp67s and mp60s that I have played back and forth for 8 years now have a significant difference in feel. They have the same forged metal, the same rifle 5.0 shafts, nearly the same grips, the same lofts, and the same lies. In summary the feel of my mp60s relative to my mp67s is duller and more muted. I don't feel the bliss of a pure strike as much and also the pain of a really bad shot as much. Over time as I just play one set for a while, I tend to forget these differences, but after a switch I notice it significantly. Everytime I switch to my mp60s there is a month where I miss the blissful feel from my mp67s on a pure strike. I get over it but it has been the same result for 8 years now.

I've mentioned in the past, the 681's were dead ringers for Palmer Original Standards, which were first sold in 1987 IIRC. And maybe the 78-84 Palmer Standards and/or First Flight Standards (same clubs, same company, different branding), on which the Original Standards were modeled.

Palmer Standards are really worth the effort, for anyone looking for a classic blade. The oddity about them is they have parallel shafts, or at least they were in the 85 Standards and Original Standards. And, the hosels are pinned, which makes reshafting a bit of a pain.

That said, they are the absolute shizzle. Top shelf.

And flat soled, with a sharp leading edge. ;)

Played baldes pretty much my entire 20 years of playing.. Had Wilson hand me downs.. Then I played the Cleveland TA1s until the groves were shot.. Bounced around awhile till the ping s59s then following with the 712 mbs.. I have a love hate relationship with blades.. I hate them now in the winter ughhh! Nothing like a pure struck blade

Wel I finally got the rest of the ferrules to finish the shaft install in the mp-33

I couldn't wait as long as I should of to hit the first one done today, the 8 iron, it dried the longest, as I had the pw, 9 done already, but ran out of the right size ferrules a couple weeks ago.

Dynamic Gold Progressive shafts in the 4-pw a modern dg shaft in an old blade, I just need to put the 3 in, as I cut it, and I put some Pure wrap midsize pros on, one fat wrap.

Need to clean up the ferrules with a little acetone, have the loft, lie, and swing weight, checked, corrected, and flat 1 degree

God they do feel good.

soo... who here will be looking at the new Hogan offerings when they come out? Im not familiar with any but ill be curious...

been following the new hogan threads with great anticipation. first pics looked great, follow ups were distorted and made the hosel/ offset/topline look huge and i was extremely let down. more recent pics have rekindled my interest.

I've only been around GOLFWRX a month or so and just noticed this thread.

Been in the game over 45 years and I've exclusivly only played forged irons with a couple of sticks that I couldn't bring myself to call EM blades. But anyhow here ya go...

Some kind of Spaulding and Wilsons
MacGregor MT2 (flatbacks)
MacGregor Tourney R2MT
Hogan Percussion
Hogan Bounce Sole 1+
Hogan Apex
Hogan Producer
Hogan Directors
Hogan PC's
Hogan Redlines
Hogan Edge
Titleist 690MB
Titleist 755
Hogan Apex Plus

So kinda chronologically that's it. The Redlines were my absolute favorites. Still have some of the Hogans around, play with them every few rounds.

Nice thread everyone!

Yep. I've been looking at pics and some look great and some im not sure. Also not familiar with the v sole but ok not put off by it either. Really interested in seeing these in person. Love the fact I can buy them one at a time as I don't usually play the set pw. And I can also fine tune yardage gaps by ordering whatever loft you want instead of bending strong or weak after purchase. In other words I already know what lofts I like. And looks like you can order just that in 1 degree increments. Really hope a retailer close to me Carries these.

2015 Hogan vsole looks similar to srixon's vsole on the 545-745-945 irons which have been getting great reviews.

Very interested in test-hitting at a minimum. If I buy, I can't wait to someone to ask me after a shot, 'what club was that?' And I say 'my 37.'
