There is no "forgiving" club out there that will top the design of your mp33s. The mp33 is a great blade. Amongst blades it is one of the best.

True story. I've ALWAYS kicked the tires on TigerNicks refinished MP33 sets. He looks like he does great work.

I have been staring at those too (well the 67's & 14's). Anybody with any experience with them? The looks are outstanding

There should be no debate. If you like blades, you like blades. Irons I've played since 1977 (my first year in golf) in order of purchase.

1965 MacGregor Tourney MT2 Blades 2-PW (starting set - stolen from my dad ;-)

*1980 Wilson Staff Tour Blades 2-PW

*1977 MacGregor Nicklaus VIP Blades 1-PW (tear drop back) Cast

*1983 Wilson Staff Tour Blades FG-17 2-PW

1983 Titleist 821 Blades 3-PW

*1984 Hogan PC Blades 1-PW

1984 (?) Daiwa Advisor DG8201 Blades 2-PW

Basically quit Golf for 7 years. Had a rotator cuff injury (left) and partial separation of the right shoulder and didn't know. I played only on Christmas day (shot mid to high 70s). Thought I kept pulling a muscle.

1996 TaylorMade Oversize Burner 2-PW Cavity backs (Graphite shafts - LONGEST HITTING GOLF CLUBS I EVER OWNED!)

1996 TaylorMade Burner Tour Graphite shafts 2-PW (previous clubs made my ball striking SLOPPY)

1997 Titleist 962B I would categorize them as Blades 1-PW (my all-time favorite set)

*2005 Titleist 680 Blades 2-PW

*2011 Titleist MB 710 Blades 3-PW (((((These are for sale))))) (Golf ending shoulder injury. A couple of range sessions - didn't even get to play a round of golf).

* Clubs I still own.

Clubs I wish I could find in like new condition 1999 Hogan Redlne or another like new set of the 962B's.

Favorite Courses: Torrey Pines South (7,628 yds), Kingwood Country Club (7253 yds), Ko'Olau Golf Club (7310yds), Maderas Golf Club (7167yds)

In order of ownership......

'65 MacGregor Tourney MT2 (2-PW)/ '80 Wilson Staff Tour Blades (1-PW)/ '83 Wilson Staff Tour Blades FG-17 (2-PW)

'77 MacGregor VIP blades Teardrop back (1-PW)/ '83 Titleist Tour Model 821 (3-PW)/ '84 Hogan PC (1-PW)

'80s Daiwa Advisor DG-8201 (2-PW)/ '96 TaylorMade Burner Bubble (2-PW)/ '97 TaylorMade Burner Bubble Tour (2-PW)

'00 Titleist 962b (1-PW)/ '05 Titleist 680 (2-PW)/ '09 Titleist 710mb (3-PW)

King at, those bestars are around and can be had for cheap (Under 200-250 a set) and I even saw a set on eBay at the time of my fascination, forget the price. I came across them at one point and time, I don't recall how/why though and if there was anything to them? Probably just looked intriguing to me. They are JDM, I think koshin or some crap like that. I would imagine they are good but older Japanese blades are not the best head profiles through a set to me. That said, those look clean.

They look appealing and that's exactly what the seller is asking for. Around $200. I'm hesitant because of their age and I can't seem to drum up any info on that company what so ever. I have too many irons sets in the magazine right now and an itchy trigger finger. Terrible combo.

I've tried Yahoo Japan. What I have noticed is that a significant amount of vendors on there won't do international shipping, typically don't take a major CC, and hardly ever deal with PayPal. The shop I used on Rakuten recently ended up not taking my CC after I had sent payment. They couldn't receive the funds. I then tried to send PayPal, turns out, they couldn't receive funds from PayPal because they didn't have it setup. I think I sent them money 4 times before they were able to receive it. Was a giant PITA, but in the end I still saved $700 from TSG, which was exponential enough to go through the struggle.

In other news, shop I bought my clubs from on Rakuten now have PayPal setup :D pioneered that BS

Google "Goody Japan"

I highly recommend them, they will bid on any auctions for you, pay for it, and hold your crap for 30days so you can combine shipping from Japan to you. You will pay 10% for that, need to have the money sent to them and in their account via PayPal, and they keep money in by not including their fees as available finds or whatever weird annoying trick to make you always have like $40 or so with them, and they are not cheapest to send clubs back to you re packed but it goes ems and you get it in week. They have paid me my balance once no problem, and I have probably bought no less than 12-16 maybe I don't even know, auctions with them and zero problems. Hey may have lowered commission to 8%, thought I saw that, and it stops at a certain ceiling of like $50, so if you get $2500 clubs, they don't take more than $50

For commission. But $300 will be $330 or whatever.

All in all and to my door, I at the very least have acces to a world of awesomeness at fair price, and yes the fees and shipping can add up, but norhing like walking I to a golf store and getting something new off rack, and for the options available, it is a no brainer.

SOS my Blade using brethren!!! I *need* help. The fate of my Porn Star BBBB set is at stake. I cannot find ferrules (other than all black) with the same O.D. as a baby blade hosel O.D. Does anybody know where to get multicolor ones with O.D. at ~0.567"? (0.355" taper tip shaft.) I am looking for white with either black or chrome ring(s).

Jari and I both aren't having much luck for the last week. I can find a lot at 0.560 but from what I understand fitters like the ferrule O.D. to be slightly bigger, so 0.570" is ideal.

Telling ya man....msfix on eBay. .570 OD

Look under each items "item description" to get the technical specs.

I swear I was just in ebay looking through his stuff and was only seeing his 0.540 OD ones and I was just about to send him a message. And now you just saved me the trouble. Domo arigato, Mr. Kingcato! :yahoo: I am in ferrule heaven now.

And just for that, I decided to take a pic of "Katana" (my 2i Porn Star) with her black leather bustier with red stitching for you. What do you think so far? Shall I go with the white w/black rings ferrules or black w/red rings? I'm leaning towards white w/black rings.

Thank you, brother bladestriker, but I actually thought long and hard about going with the Miura logo ferrules and in the end I just thought it would add too much Miura already in the club. The baby blades already have the logo and then 'Miura' on the head twice and so I decided to pass on the logo ferrules. That said, if you have white with a black logo, then I may step off the cliff to listen...

If I had to pick, to match up the red stitching, I would think about going with a red ferrule. Taking it a step farther, red with black rings would be interesting. And likely impossible to find. LOL

So maybe black with red rings, to match up with the grip?

White isn't bad either, will stand out nicely.

Dang, this is a tough one DeNins. But I'm glad we are even engaging in this soul wrenching exercise!

Couple questions: 1) You may have already said, but what kind of shafts are going in these? Not sure how that would make a difference, but it could (you know since Project X has the blue, DG with it's gold bands, Nippon and KBS with its red, Aerotech being silver, etc.). 2) is there any way you (or any of our other talented blade brethren) can do some kind of computer generated preview of those two options? This project is worth the effort. Also, you should have some kind of lottery for one of us to come and hit them when they are done... :)

Actually I am taking inspiration from you. Here is my plan for my dream set: tinker with my Amp Cell Pros, Fly Z Pros, and Tommy Armour 986 Tours to find the perfect LLL (I am currently experimenting with between .5" and 1.5" over the "standard" length of irons, and working on shallowing out my swing plane so that I don't need upright irons (I am experimenting with between 2* upright and 1* flat). Not exactly sure how to figure out perfect lofts, other than it should be built around a 52* GW and 56* Swedge, since I am so comfortable with these lofts around the green and 100 in. So it would be nice to have a 48* PW (instead of all the 46* wedges out there). But then I'd also like to have a 15* iron (i.e. a 2 iron), which means I have to sacrifice the 60* wedge, which I also really love. I wish more companies would do what Hogan did with the Fort Worths, make an iron in every loft, that way I could make a custom set that goes from 15* to 60* in 11 clubs rather than 12 clubs (to leave room for the D, 3W and putter) without having to bend them and being able to play them as they were designed. Obviously the Miura BB is what I have in mind at the current moment, but I'd hate to be bending and tweaking them 2 or 3 degrees stronger or weaker all over the place... Hmmmm.... Or {shrug}, as NRJ says..

Anyway! (Sorry this is a long post but I'm having lots of thoughts right now...) I believe I have found the shaft for this future mythical set: DG Tour X7, which I just learned about yesterday by reading the thread in the "From the Forum" story on the front page of WRX about "the stiffest shaft you've ever played.' Howard (who has lots of incredible club making posts) said DG Tour X7 is the stiffest he's seen, which is for "someone who needs an X100 at +1-1.5". That's me! Apparently they create a super low ball fight, which is what I need as I battle a super high ball flight. I think I need to order these ASAP, as DG took them out of production. I found a few sets on eBay for $320 or $40 a shaft. Dannnngg it this is an expensive hobby (passion, obsession).

Okay, did not want to threadjack DeNins on his essential quest. Just wanted to share how he is inspiring me. For now, I vote white ferrule with black rings, because I think that will make the heads "pop" more. I think it will be tough to see the red rings on the black ferrules, i.e. it will probably look just like a solid black ferrule at first glance and from a distance (although that may be something you want, subtle accents that require a more discerning eye....)

Okay that's it for now! Writing and thinking about all this has my heart rate up, lol...

DeNinny,

I use Msfix for all of my ferrules (I've used Cell Part and Grail Golf previously). The aforementioned ferrules require little if any turning when installed on .355 hosels, but will also fit .370 hosels.

As to colours I'd purchase a set of both and keep the one you don't use for a future project (if you don't want an extra set lying around you can send the extras my way and I'll pay the cost of ferrules and shipping).

I've gone the white route before on a black head. The contrast was striking but I grew tired of the colour and they seemed to get dirty easier. My pick would be black with red rings or all black. Classic appearance.

Look forward to the finished product regardless of the path.

Bobby I'm a believer in that you should maximize your "club love" as much as possible. Meaning, you need to do anything and everything to simply make your bag a non-issue. Spec it out until you have it set and then pimp it out to the max. When I am approaching my bag to pull a club, I want to see clubs that I am in LOVE with. I want to have confidence in the technology (...LOL you can NEVER go wrong with blades compared to the alternative on that point...) and I want an aesthetically pleasing look. Bottom line is that there should not be one issue, not one iota of one, with your clubs if at all possible. It is the ONLY way to build 100% confidence in the shot you are about to take with it. So yeah this ferrule decision is some important $h!t, man!

1) I am going with Nippon NS Pro 850 GH stiff flex shafts. Slightly lighter and stiffer than my 950s reg flex. The NS Pros have white paint only. No sticker. If I could find white with chrome rings ferrules, I may get them instead of the other options. I figured the chrome rings are a good match to the shaft. (And yes, I definitely consider shaft colors in all my club 'pimping' projects.)

2) LOL no 3D CAD rendering or Photoshopping needed for this project. (Although my good friend Kathy Marie I think has the skills for this undertaking...not sure if she is still lurking...) I can "see" how the ferrules will look well enough.

I am with you also in the white giving the look more "pop". Already this is clear between my Cal Hottie BBs and Dirty Girl Retro TBs...

...The yellow ferrules on the Dirty Girls definitely stand out and "pop" more relative to the black ones with my Cal Hotties. And so the white ferrules will do the same. Plus I like it matching the white paintfill in the head more so than the red rings matching my grip stitches. The other issue is that I may change grips down the road and white and black (and chrome) will match with virtually everything.

As to your LLL project. Setting lofts is a tricky one. I think you just need to do a lot of data collection and determine your min, max, and average distances at a set loft progression. And then if you notice that you are not gapped evenly between all clubs, then you simply keep tweaking the lofts until you have the gaps and distance progression in proper increments. Personally, I don't like changing the lofts without a consistent method from the manufacturer's specs. If I am going to bend a club stronger or weaker, most likely I will be doing the same bend across all irons to maintain consistency. I would only deviate from this if it appears as if my distance gaps were no longer even with specific clubs and then I would tweak that club's loft only.

LOL I can't wait to hear about your 2i journey. I will be sharing mine. It will be kicking out my beloved 5w from the bag.

And no worries on 'postjacking' me. Please share your random thoughts on aesthetics and building your perfect bag! We all inspire each other in here!!! :friends:

Yeah I like the yellow ferrules more for sure. Love the way they accent and compliment the paint fill. I'm voting white for sure on the new ones, regardless of the color of the rings, although I agree with you: chrome rings sound freaking sweet.

So are the Hogans the only set anyone knows of that makes an iron in every loft from 15 to 48 (or whatever it is, I can't even find their website anymore, sad)? And obviously it wouldn't be much help for me to buy a used set, as it's not going to have the lofts at the increments I want (say: 15, 19, 23, 28, 33, 38, 43, 48).

I've gone th white route before on a black head. The contrast was striking but I grew tired of the colour and the seemed to get dirty easier. My pick would be black with red rings or all black. Classic appearance.

Look forward to the finished product regardless of the path.

Oooh, you and NRJ are possibly talking me off the ledge about going with black w/red stripes. And if I did, long term I would remove the white paintfill in the big 'MIURA' stamping and refill it with Testor's metallic red. Gawd that would just be too sexy!

Still leaning towards white with rings. I totally understand the issue with them getting dirty, but at the moment the continuity with the white paintfill is what compels me to go with them.

And BTW bobby and all my blade using buds, for the record, I will gladly allow you to try my Cal Hottie BBs (or the Retros) as I try yours if we ever get together to play. But NOBODY, except maybe my father, gets to try the Porn Stars! They are going to be my precious sex toys. For me to "nut" and for me alone! So don't even think of it!!!
