I'd love to take on some SB-1's :).

He hits those so so SO well.

This would be a second set. No way am I messing with my gamers. Favorite irons I’ve ever had. Except when I somehow hook a PW into the desert!

Well that wedge hook was just ballast for that birdie putt that popped and out then spun back into the hole...

These 680 MB raw irons are awesome, but needed quite a bit of lead tape to get to D3 when I installed Modus3 125S shafts with GP Tour Velvet Align grips at standard length.

I saw you post those in a different thread, and I think you said the swing weight was C6! So how much lead did you apply to get them up to D3? 14g?

C6 is about right for ladies' clubs, right?

Skill...pure skill. Like the guy yesterday who pulled iron into palm tree, kicked 30* right, 3 foot birdie putt. Which he missed. Ballast.

So...?

After realizing that my Janzen grind Founders Club 200 series blades were starting to develop some serious wear, decided to give another favorite set of blades a go, albeit in a combo set, the Cobra s3 pros. While a solid and lovely set, just can't get entirely comfortable with inability to flight down cavity 3-6 irons when necessary. Fortunately, was able to locate a very nice set (1-pw ?) of Mizuno TP19 heads so a possibly very nice set should be in play soon as get shafts and grips sent to a good friend to get appropriately sorted.

Just to think I have been accused of over use of lead tape. Looks like something in my bag---- But hey you have to get them where you can play them by any means necessary. One thing about it guys like you and I ain't scared of a little rust and lead tape

I'm all for a Wilson set, so long as they get rid of that show chrome finish. I don't want to hit little spheres of urethane with mirrors. Too distracting.

Well Cat this is going to make some folks shudder but I do know how to dull them up some. Soak them in CLR and hit them a few times with a Scotchbrite pad. Trust me it will take the shiny off. Not the chrome itself but the shiny

First game since May in the books. Another interesting round in Japan. I honestly don't know where to begin with this one. So, I'll start at the start. Father in law, his friend and I arrive with enough time to roll a few putts - great. Meet our fourth, a ramen restaurant scion with something like 30 restaurants in the area. I immediately forget his name, as you do.

I had envisioned casually warming up, stretching out my back and developing some sort of rhythm. I snap hook my first tee shot. Still manage a par 5 from the adjacent fairway. There are no more adjacent fairways. Second hole begins what will become the refrain for half of my day. Decent tee shot, iron shot slightly left of my target into bunker, short sided, bogey.

3 of next four drives out of bounds cost me a double and a quad (9) . Game over. Seething. Because of the company around me, I've got to suck it up. In my formative years, I'd let loose a string of profanity or kick a club, instead I just forget what happened. And, it served me well for the rest of the game.

I gain some measure of confidence parring the next 3 holes, before doubling the 9th a long narrow hole with ob on both sides. This time the score is due to a muffed pitch into a bunker, with partial credit due to a mildly errant drive.

We lunch. I beer. Everyone is playing poorly, but that's life. I realize that despite my awful score, I play a totally different game from my partners. I made more pars on that side than they do the entire day.

The TN87s with Modus 120s are a work in progress. I didn't miss a single swing with one, but, no exaggeration, every shot started left of my target and especially with 8 iron down there was too much draw. If anyone here knows what might be the issue. I am all ears. All, I know is that I really look forward to the next time with them, getting it right.

I hit two seven irons that will have me sticking with them for the next round at least. One was 177 out of the rough. Carried it over a bunker and it held the green on a slick, tiny green after pumping my first ball out of bounds. It was a great save for a 6.

The next was 172 on #15. This one start a hair left, but stayed laser straight, it flew pin high and rolled behind the pin about 20 feet away. What a feeling, that strike.

Back nine I hit 6 of 7 fairways all with driver. I suddenly found command of that club, making a small adjustment, I might describe as extending my hips at address. I hit 6 of the most perfect drives. Of course, the one fairway I did miss cost me a triple bogey (7).

Best of those drives were driving a 314 yard hole playing slightly down hill. Credit to the lady who was caddying for us for teaching me the correct line. I hit it over a stand of trees just where she said and I found myself with 35 odd feet for eagle. I managed to roll the come backer in from 7 feet.

The 17 is about a 380 yard hole, narrow, ob on, you guessed it, both sides and anything left of center has a way of disappearing. It's the only hole of the day I feel any breeze. It's slightly in our face. I teed it down slightly and ripped a low ball right down the pipe. Chunked a lob wedge onto the fringe and made another par.

18th another narrow shortish par 4 with white stakes protruding and prolapsing out of every fold of fairway, I calmly knock one down the left side and pitch one to 20 feet. It's almost like I had played the game for 25 years.

Despite 4 balls out of bounds I managed an 84. With a warm up and a little more thoughtful course management I think I could put together a really decent score.

That's a hell of a round for someone who doesn't play golf! No golf since May? Damn man, you need to arrange your priority's. :)

That particular set of Founders actually have developed concavity in short irons, so played them past point of consideration of a refurbishment. That being stated, I still have two sets (2-sw) of the Payne grind 200 series that have yet to be played as well as a 'few' defense series wedges done by Vokey.? Actually culled the herd of 3 sets of 200 series and 962b irons respectively about two months ago.? Foolishly moved on from set of TP19 a few weeks before Faldo's last Masters win and have regretted same, when these were offered, seemed a bit "meant to be".?

A friend of mine played the same 2 588s for over 25 years. He is one of those guys that either played every day or was a range rat. He actually wore both of those 588s slick and concave. This is the same guy who wore out 3 sets of Ram Tour Grinds in the same time frame. One of the reasons I never get rid of any of my Macs--- I have gotten to the point in life I can not hit anything unless it says Macgregor or Hogan on it or in my case a combination of both.

I'm considering having my Apex MB's bent 1 deg stronger. Anyone have any feedback that have done that, good or bad? This is my first set of blades and I find that I really have to step on them to get to my distances sometimes. Love everything else about them though. Stock lofts are very neutral on these guys:

I have FG-51's bent to near modern lofts....people look at me like WTF when I pull the same iron as their SGI.
