I've had the opportunity to see his work in person (sorry didn't even think of taking pictures) when he was in Chicago. I've had allot of putters go through my hands over the last 18 years and his work is incredible.

IMO things happened way to fast for Tyson and he's trying to figure out the best way to move forward at this time.

On Tuesday I had the opportunity to talk to his mom to go over all of the custom options that I was interested in. She did a great job of explaining what the options were and what would work based on the head design chosen etc. Then I got to speak with Tyson for about 15 minutes to go over some other details and to answer a few more questions I had. Both were extremely knowledgeable. Tyson was very nice and gave his honest opinions of what would and would not likely work as far as the design of my putter which was extremely helpful. I told him how you were all complaining about lack of pictures so he told me I could post this one so you guys could see some of the more intricate details of his work:

Just kidding, that's a long distance shot of one of my Bettinardis

Also got one of his divot tools which should be here Friday depending on the hurricane:

and the back with my two sons initials in orange and blue of course :)

That SMU putter he posted on instagram is absolutely stunning. I do have a question and this isn't a flame but how does he get around licensing for the school logos for stuff like that? If he could do a tiger eye I'd be very interested (once the putters seem available for sale that is :no2: )

I think he played golf for them or has permission to use it. If you look at some other IG stuff you can see he made the tee markers for the school's home course for their matches. Have you seen any other college logos used in his posts? I'd be curious as well.

He's done quite a few SMU logos on other items, too. Since SMU has been the only school represented in his work, I'm assuming he has something resembling a licensing deal with the university or golf team.

It's tough—since each of his pieces are so unique, and because he is the lone fabricator, he has some tough business strategy decisions ahead. If they are getting 1000's of order requests each week (evidently), he will really struggle with fulfilling even 5% of the order requests. Any business with a 5% fulfillment rate is going to struggle. If 95% of your potential customers are being turned away, the momentum can only last so long.

He must be going through flutes like crazy! His CNC has to be going non-stop.

Yeah it mostly looked like SMU stuff so I was wondering if he had some kind of deal with them as I know the NCAA is strict on licensing. He did do some belt buckles and ball markers a while back that had tons of schools logos on them (SMU, OSU, OHState,etc..) so was just wondering. He also did this..

I recently checked out his IG. Damn. His work is undeniably amazing, and his finishing hand touches are indeed unique.

But i just cant get passed the lamb crafted slogan. I know i said that in his other thread and its not a bash on him. But time hasnt changed my opinion on that one. Especially having owned a MannKrafted putter and meeting the mann behind the work.

There is a putter maker on here/in Arizona named Lamont Mann...he's been in the business for a long time. Can make anything on a hand mill you can dream of. Oddly enough he runs "MannKrafted" putters. Tysons "lamb crafted" is a pretty obvious copy of Lamont's MannKrafted. ..so much so, if you look hard enough you'll even find some work stamped "Lamb Krafted" spelled with a k....

Lamont is my favorite putter maker in the business so I am a bit biased.

craft

kraft/

verb

past tense: crafted; past participle: crafted

  •

    exercise skill in making (something).

    "he crafted the chair lovingly"

Well id say this definition sums up his work.. and any fine putter makers? i just went through all his pictures and couldnt find any with "Krafted" can you?

It is a blatent rip. Yes Lamont chose to use that word to describe his putters based on its definitions that you gave, it is apt. someone else using it for the same exact purpose dilutes both their own brand and their originality. If there was such a team of smart marketing happening for this kid, I can't imagine why the advice would be to not be your own brand and forge your own brand awareness and traits but whatever.

You are also not taking into account the last name in combination with crafted, which is where the word itself is irrelevant, but how it is being used for the same exact product type is just An unsettling rip off. Guaranteed you couldn't pull something like that in clothing or other industries without it going to court, it is that bad and indefensible.

At the end of the day he makes some beautiful putters..... Look at his welds, corners and craftsmanship compared to other boutique brand competitors. The quality of craftsmanship is better than 99% of putter builders on this planet. Lamont makes some "neat" putters but him and Lamb shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence, I don't care if he copied his name or not.

if it is that blatant, then they can sort it out between the two. he doesn't have a "team" other than his mother, and a part time intern who is currently going to school to be an engineer. Golf design has had this going on for longer than when Solheim Karsten came out with the answer. Regardless, I'm not here to debate whether his chosen brand name is a rip off, I'm here to discuss his work.

And I don't mean that as an insult to Lamont or any other putter make, Lamb is just a very uniquely talented guy, I would consider his work (based off pictures) to be very special. Besides Scotty when has a guy made putters at this level?

Dave Billings and the crew at Machine produce putters that would rival anything on the market.

I think it's unfair to compare a true handmade to a product that's been milled on a high end CNC machine with finishing touches applied by hand.

Tyson's products are handsome in appearance but I don't place him in the same category as Lamont, Lumpy, or Scotty.

I think he needs to focus on being Tyson Lamb. If he can meet demand and satisfy the needs of potential customers he will be successful.

I will never roll one of his flatsticks (for a variety of reasons) but wish him well as he attempts to establish himself in an incredibly competitive market.

I apologize, I thought in this sea of a thread I read he was working with a marketing specialist to build demand by having high prices on ebay and not really sellin or something to that effect, it is what I meant by team but I am sorry if I Mis read all that.

His putters are fine, and as someone that owns and operates 2 very large cnc machines, I will go a step further and ask anyone who dismisses cad work to give it a shot and see how easy it is to make cad and then having tooling process for it. It is not old school craftsmanship, but it is a new age skill.

All that said, there are lots of putter makers that can make or cnc putters like that....the thing with cnc product is that it is in fact quite easy to duplicate. I am more impressed with a machinest style shop fabricator and just a machinist/fabricator approach to the whole thing, but that is just me. I love my tad moore putter, not as flashy as a golds or lajosi, but same machinest approach. I also have some cnced putters I like a lot, a whitlam that is great...I don't know what makes me like a putter, just that I know it when I see it and there is a laundry list of really capable guys out there...lots of guys.....Are lambs putters cool, yes. Have design tuning putters in Japan been made with the same kind of pattern cnced on the neck and bumpers that his have that are so unique and amazing? Yes. I think that anyone making putters is great, however I think that it would be a lot cooler to see someone trying to do something new. Lumpy comes to mind as a major trying new things kind a guy. I get it, there is only so much you can do with putters, but no one cares if you make another answer style head, just cheapens your own effort when you take another guys slogan, that's all.

I am curious what working with him means though.

Do you pic a preset head shape? Does he design a custom head based on your likes then modify changes until a final draft is approved? I am sure it starts with a base, but what I want to know is how much custom cad work he does, or if he does all his car work to come up with shapes and then has filed saved for I sert cutouts/the random number and neck chiseling etc.

just wondering how that works.
