Possible reason: CT measurement as performed by the USGA's pendulum drop test does not accurately measure COR, and the Epic head has a higher COR from the "Jail Break" bars, yet still conforms to the CT testing limit.

I have a feeling that once this driver is released, we are going to see another site (MGS) use the old cannon COR test to evaluate this theory. I can't wait to see what is fact and what is fiction.

I'm having the same issue with Tapatalk. This is the only forum with an issue, seems like half the threads I try to read won't open. It's a pain - after using this app for so long navigating through mobile versions of forums is painful.

As I understand it the Jailbreak technology is not changing the COR or CT. It has nothing to do with the flexing of the face. Rather it is reducing the amount of energy that is being lost because the bottom and the crown are flexing. Thus the Epic heads are more efficient at transferring the energy to the ball.

This is important because until the other manufacturers figure out how to duplicate this (within the constraints of Callaway's patent) Callaway will have a distance advantage that no other manufacture will be able to match using current designs.

Makes sense to me. The energy that was going into bulging of the crown and sole is now going into the ball.

Yes, but as I said earlier in this thread, if this is true, this head would fail the COR test. This would imply that more than 83% of the energy is being transmitted to the ball. I believe it could get around the CT test though.

Bottom line is smash factor. Haven't yet seen data showing better smash factor with the Epic. Seems everyone that says they got more ball speed did so by increasing their swing speed.

Can't wait to see this as well. I doubt there will be a difference though. Like I said before, there's not been sufficient evidence the head is "hotter" because we haven't seen the smash factors to back it up.

Numbers from recent fitting on trackman

Tour Issue M2 (average numbers)

Swing speed - 95.2

Ballspeed - 141.7

Launch - 13.7

Spin - 2291

Epic GBB (average numbers)

Swing speed - 96.1

Ballspeed - 145.5

Launch - 14.0

Spin - 2348

I didn't pay as much attention to total distance numbers but I was carrying the Epic about 10-12y further on average.

Probably non-confirming is the only thing that can explain those numbers.

--trolling of course--

Awesome numbers. How was the consistency compared to the M2?

Both very good in the consistency department but id say the Epic wins there too. Extremely easy to hit high long and straight. Will be going straight into my bag as soon as I get my hands on one that I can keep haha.

M2 has a Fujikura Speeder Evolution 3 757 and the Epic had a Fujikura Speeder Platinum 7S once we dialed in the right combo.

M2 is 9.5 set one click towards LOWER. Epic was 9* set to N/S.

I also hit it with the stock Rogue Max 75 and it was a close second to the Platinum which I'd not really ever heard of before I went into this fitting.

As for how, let's just say I was in the right place at the right time.

Crazy good averages with both.

Nice to see that ball speed come up!

I finally get to see them tomorrow but I doubt I can "borrow" it for a just little bit.

Those are very good ballspeed numbers for those swing speed numbers. What smash factor do those calculate out to?

Is the Platinum one of the upgrade shafts available? If not, I think it is VERY expensive.

I saying yes to the free upgraded if "Whomever" had it for him to demo.. If not can't see it being too over expensive compare to others that may be on the list.

I am not sure what shafts are available but I don't think the Platinum is a standard offering unfortunately. That shaft was a part of the fitters pre-existing Callaway driver fit cart which includes after market shafts unavailable through Callaway.

The platinum is a super shaft but very expensive there's no way that's an upgrade without substantial upcharge great shaft thought I think it uses t1100 carbon through the whole thing.

thats what I thought. $550 for the shaft is a bit much.
