For the most part it sounds like all you guys are still really happy with your Callaway clubs. Have you guys compared them to anything else that you you've been eyeing up? Just wondering if you guys will be be putting these up against anything else in the real world.

I've compared my irons with the new Callaway Steelheads, and even though the lofts are a tad weaker I hit the CF16's longer and straighter. I also preferred them to the Ping G30s. My old driver was the XR16 and I hit the Epic 3-wood longer than the XR16 driver. The Epic fairway woods outperformed the XR16 fairway woods.

The wedges are great. l get a lot of action around the greens. The only wedge that comes close is the TM EF ATV. The Chrome Soft X is a great ball and will supplant the ProV1x as my favorite golf ball.

I haven't played with a putter with lots of stuff on it in three years (face plate, insert, and the like). My old putter was simply a chunk of double-milled steel, which I found elegant and simple. I've never been a fan of inserts and what not. We will see how this works out.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad everything is working out for you.

Thanks GC, I really appreciate that!

I really like how the ball comes off the O-Works putter (#1). I putter very good with it at Torrey and again yesterday, even with the punched/top dressed greens.

The Epic SZ driver is great. I hit 7-10 fairways yesterday with very good length. Mishits still got out there. The 3 wood is equally as good. Very happy with both. I consciously used the Steelhead #3 (19*) hybrid instead of a 5 wood yesterday. I really like the ball flight. I seem to balloon 5 woods with tons of spin. I hit the hybrid lower, less spin and at least comparable distance. I will need some time to get used to the graphite shafts in my irons. I see potential. I hit several great iron shots yesterday. I am with Sean, I love the new Chrome Soft X ball.

First time out this year. First time out since the trip! Shot 84 on a par 70 course. 1 birdie, 1 triple, 4 doubles. It was a roller coaster ride out there.

Nicely done Greg! You get rid of triple and a double or two and your really doing well...you must be looking forward to the season!

The windchills in my neck of the woods will be below zero tonight. Hopefully by the middle/end of next week I will be able to play some golf. :-)

anyone dislike the sound of the GBB epic? feels a little mushy to me, anyone else get that? have not tried the sub zero yet .

just got out with my forged md3 58 degree and love it so far

I really like the sound and feel of the Epic. Kinda reminds me of the sound of a door being firmly shut on a Mercedes S550, not that I own one.

Honeymoon over and all that aside. I still absolutely love everything about the Epic. I could switch back to my 850 forged, other wedges etc....

You would have to straight up murder me to get the Epic out of my hands. I love the mutey thump like feel. And i haven't lost a ball in 3-4 months !!!! (granted i am playing in a small virtual golf room so losing a ball is literally impossible.....still.....months!!!)

That's a bit extreme...especially for a Canadian.

I saw a lot of you guys were fitted for irons in the Apex Pro 16 line. I was messing around with those last week and very impressed. Looks, feel and the spin numbers were perfect.

How do you like them???

Really like the irons. Want to try them out with the Modus shafts I used to use before putting the steelfiber in play. They are forgiving but still have the player look to them.

The round leading edge has taken time for some to get used to, but I didn't have that problem. Coming from blades, the top line wasn't an issue.

Really looking forward for the season to start to get these in play.

The performance of the Apex Pro was very good. My issue was the shape, I just couldn't get used to the more rounded leading edge.

I was looking just now at it and hard to see anything wonky on the leading edge. Is it to blunted for you?

Richard

Ive always preferred the look of a really straight looking leading edge. My Srixons look straighter. I also like a head thats a little less rounded.

I understand now. Ok... I will look at it again... thanks!

My numbers are always really good with them but to be honest I struggle to see them translate to the course. There is something about the leading edge that I don't like. My Razr MB's are back in the bag currently.

Totally agree. On the range they were great, 3/4 knock down shots was where they would shine. But on the course it never translated to scoring.

I feel bad because they're great irons but I just can't get them dialed in.

I love mine, Richard. I can certainly see why some may not love the look, PW-8i have a discernible curved leading edge.

After the 8i, I don't notice it at all in-person.

The shape doesn't bother me at all, even coming from the Taylormade Tour Preferred MB which I think is one of the best shapes ever:

If you don't mind the look at address, the performance is stellar. Incredibly soft feel, high but not spinny flight, and very forgiving longer irons (most surprising). I shot 70 at Torrey the first day with them in the bag and then just had my first hole-in-one (7i), I won't be changing anytime soon!

The 4 iron is the best looking club in the set I thought.

I agree. The 4,5,6 look great. The 7 is when it starts getting funky.

I am just a humble Apex CF16 guy, but I find these to be terrific irons. Prior to the trip I had a set of Steelheads, and I find the CF16's to be longer and straighter. They also have a great feel.

I'm pretty sure there's a few guys on tour playing CF16

Matt, thanks for the information. Do you know why the MOI is higher with a "fade" setting in the Epic?

I was looking to where the fade setting is on the Epic (there is just Neutral and Draw...I imagine it is the sliding weight on the sole moved toward the toe?), and ran into the gentleman who did my fitting at Callaway:

How do you like them???

I like them a lot. With irons for me it's never about "making me a better player" so to speak since i'm not sure there's been THAT many advancements in irons. I liked my JPX850 forged and when i was picked to go on the trip, that was the one spot i was a little hesitant to give up (i was taking it seriously that i would play whatever i was fit for mostly, since one of the requirements listed was that you would try to improve using Callaway).

The Apex Pro have a fairly "rounded" look i find, the sole is rounded, the edges are fairly soft. Not like Mizunos or Pings which have boxy looks. It's a big difference at address. They are quite forgiving for a smaller iron, i lost nothing going from the 850F which is a bigger iron, but i also hit the sweet spot a lot. I'm very confident hitting them, i played a small draw and nothing changed going to Callaway. They feel nice, kind of firm for a forged iron but still nice. Part of it is that i had been making progress with my swing so it's not all the clubs, but i've never hit the ball better than i am now. Everything kind of clicked after the trip, but part of that was the fittings combined with that i was getting close to fully adjusted to my new swing. FWIW i hit them as far as my 850F , and they are weaker lofted

Irons are so much about preference, do you like the boxy look or the rounded look. etc...But they work nice for me

My one complaint if i had to make one was that i'm not a fan of chrome. Also they tend to scratch easily. 2 of my irons have a full scratch down the face which does not affect play....but sucks to look at

Almost half of the MD/DC/VA group I play with has switched to the Epic. It's about half and half on the standard v. SZ

The 3 wood is money. Stupid easy to hit

I have 2 rounds in now. I am very happy with my set, although there will be more tinkering. Maybe an Epic 5 wood? wedges are always in flux for me. I am still looking hard at the PM grinds. I loved my old Ping Eye2 which these are patterned after.
