Things that bug me while watching pro golf.

I don't get bugged too much watching the European tour as announcers just call the shots and the golf being shown. In USA

The announcers just talk over everything about nothing of interest.

I disagree. Often the Euro guys are just as bad, maybe not rambling like Feherty, but he is from Europe so maybe they kicked him out?

So maybe the euro guys aren't trying to be as dramatic but they do quietly tend to ramble on about this and that. Maybe it's more in a hushed tone.

Bugs me watching tour pros walking up the faces of bunkers. And why do we need to have a Euro on nearly every telecast on Golf Channel. I don't mean Faldo because he's one of the lead announcers.

I know golf is hard to televise....lots of players over many acres..... BUT I hate it when they continually show the networks self annointed golden boys when they're way below the cutline or miles out of contention while ignoring the guys who are playing the best golf.... for example, they totally ignored the Oosthuizen-Schwartzel team (3rd & in the mix to the very end) until the very end on Sunday yet showed Kuch & Bubba who weren't even close to contending

It's much darker than it appears on camera. They've opened up the iris on the lenses to use all available light.

Or so I've heard 6 or 7 times per year since about 1990.

Ha! I remember standing on my patio, several miles north of Torrey Pines along the coast, when they called it for darkness on Sunday this year. There was plenty of light. Put it this way: anyone on this forum teeing off on 16 would've pushed to finish in that light.

An anouncer (like Peter Jacobsen...every time) saying that a player is hitting “something like a 9 iron” for a long-ish greenside bunker shot when we at home can clearly see that it’s a sand iron, or a lob iron! I don’t know how a guy who’s been around the game for 50 years can’t recognize the inherent differences between a sand iron and a club that’s part of a full set...

The only thing that annoys me is when the announcers really pump up and exaggerate distances, without the proper context. I think the way the game is presented on television fuels the whole "roll the ball back" debate. And don't get me wrong these guys are amazing and super talented. But at the same time, anyone with basic golf physics knowledge knows a 118 to 120 mph swing doesn't lead to 350 plus yards without a ton of help from the conditions. Same with 300 yard 2 irons. Or when they claim a guy is hitting less club or give the distance to front instead of the pin. It just creates this one dimension facade that golf is just about blasting the crap out of the ball.

1. Pre-shot routines that are more then one practice swing and picking out a target. How about a quick waggle and pull the trigger

2. Marking putts inside 2' adjusting the line on the ball and doing a full routine just to tap it in

3. Mental coaches. These guys I swear get worse, if you need a mental coach to play golf, I can't imagine what you need to function in life.

We all now have to watch every junior golfer and weekend hack, do a 5 minute pre-shot routine and then this whole charade on the greens to make a putt. They wonder why golf takes 5+ hours and junior golf tournament take 6+.

This bugs me. There is only so much that a lens can be opened. They make it appear lighter with image processing. I don't know anything about top end video cameras, but do they even have operator adjustable lenses? If you fool around opening and closing the lens aperture, you also fool around with the depth of field.

Dunno. They are so brave though.

You folks have made my day with these comments--laughing is good for the health. I just wonder how you would take the things we oldsters had to suffer 30-40 years ago--Lee Trevino's dramatics, Chi Chi Rodrigues' putter sword thing, Colin Montgomeries' complete a--hole personality, and that grand phony black plastic looking half cowboy hat of Greg Norman? You would have had a field day.

Am gratified that you have stayed off of Rolex tho--you do understand it is a "history witnessing" watch do you not? It was there at The Mount, when the Declaration was signed, when Mongols ruled, and Hitler was roasted! You dare not denigrate what Rolex has seen!

“He knocked that by more than he would have liked.”

I’ve heard it twenty thousand times. I don’t know what this is.. Are golf announcers also color guys/gals? It’s not analysis, that’s for sure. Speaking about why the player went five feet long on his first putt would be properly analysis. Saying a player knocked it by farther that they would have liked is like....your opinion....dude......so stop revealing the player’s thoughts! You ain’t in his head!!
