Things that bug me while watching pro golf.

I share many of the opinions previously posted, but my #1 pet peeve is network producers who aren't consistent in their timing.

 

Like most sports I watch, I use the 30 second skip forward and 7 second skip back on my PVR. That way, I am not frustrated with the dolts mindlessly babbling on within and commentary, as well as anymore of the ED commercials.

 

It seems that just when I figure out the timing of these guys, they change it up. Whatever - just like golf, it's a first world problem of no significance.

I gave WGC a chance, again. Best parts are US commercial breakes. As we get uninterrupted golf. But when the break ends, we habe to watch either Mexico logo or David Duval in the booth. Then five to ten shots and break or another pointless booth talk.

 

Seems like the golf is getting less and less coverage and for me the breaks were at least golf. In US I guess Cialis ads?

 

So after 30 minutes I had to stop the misery.

 

That's why god invented TiVo.

 

But you still miss 95% of the shots on course and you end up with 15 minutes of broadcast of 5 hour round. I do not understand the appeal of current US golf broadcast, who is it targeted to, not golf fans anyway.

Yep all advertisements on-air is the US, but on the European Tour we constantly see billboards placed backwards on every hole. Beautiful golf courses littered with advertising billboards.

The endless discussion about Tiger and the dissection of every single one of his shots.....just let us watch and not have to listen to 9 different "experts" go into detail about why he has a 2-way miss.

 

ANY putting (except for the leaders).....unless the guy drains a 50-footer.....or misses a 2-footer!

I like those. Only way they can get on the camera is to perform a miracle, shame they don't show more golf and less talk.

so you want a broadcast to not show a guy chip in or knock in a long putt simply because he's out of contention? if thats the case then we're going to get more coverage of spieth leading a tournament toweling off his grips or a leader tossing grass in the air.....because why show the other guys hit great shots if they can't win. sorry but i couldn't disagree more.

I think WRXers need to realize that the announcers are explaining situations to the 90% of viewers who are not avid golfers and may not know the implications of what is happening on the course. Do football fans get mad when an announcer explains that OBJ just caught a pass by finding the seam in zone coverage?

I do not care about announcers, I just do not wish to see them. Just show the golf.

Seems like everyone is wearing white pants these days. It's not a good look.

 

Even worse is the super tight pants on a high % of these golfers. I may not want Reed baggy, but it's gotten out of hand with the tightness. And DJ's pants are the worst. If he's wearing lighter color pants, you can see "everything". It's awkward. My wife cracks up every time they show him walking towards a camera after making a putt.

 

Alex Noren's routine. Worst one ever. The length of golfer routines in general has gotten so bad over recent years. I get they're playing for a lot of money and the competition is incredibly high, but there's no way all the things they're doing is actually helping them. They may have convinced themselves it is, but it can't possibly be the case.

 

I've also grown tired of players holding their kids when they're being interviewed after winning a tournament. I get it. You're a good family man. That's a great thing. Just don't shove it down my throat. Feels like they're trying to tell us what a great of a person they are. Hugging family after a win is cool. Just don't put them on camera when you're being interviewed. It's just weird.

 

Announcers that have to say something differently than EVERYONE else says it. 3 metal has been brought up a lot. But during Mexico, one of the announcers kept talking about how players had to putt it over a "muffin". I was watching with a friend and we both were like "what the hell is he talking about". I loved when when Feherty finally said on air something like "what are all these muffins".

Oh, and when the commentators accurately predict the outcome of a shot, when it’s obviously pre-recorded and they know the result already.

I’m convinced that the never ending “metal” references are some kind of contractual obligation. I have never in 36 years of playing golf ever heard anyone I’ve played with call a fairway wood a “metal”. But the tv talking heads almost never refer to woods anymore. It’s got to be driven in some way by the club manufacturers but I have no idea why.
