When announcers say hitting a certain shot or a certain putt takes courage. Hitting a golf ball doesn't require bravery.

 

That's done in all sports, "It's takes a lot of courage to throw a fast ball to...", "Gutsy move by that QB to throw into coverage". It's all relative.

Color commentary is one of the things that sucks about all televised sports.

I’m convinced that the never ending “metal” references are some kind of contractual obligation. I have never in 36 years of playing golf ever heard anyone I’ve played with call a fairway wood a “metal”. But the tv talking heads almost never refer to woods anymore. It’s got to be driven in some way by the club manufacturers but I have no idea why.

I actually enjoy a lot of the Brit/Euro coverage. Seems they're not as afraid of a bit of dead air now and then. They don't force it in other words. Adding 10 percent for yardage conversion ain't no thing.

While we're whining, my major peeve is the amount of ball gargling that goes on in professional sports in general.

 

When Koepka was winning, it was all they could talk about. I get it - he's playing really well and should be recognized for it - but that doesn't mean I want the camera and conversation to cut to him every 30 seconds instead of showing the other competitors.

I can most certainly appreciate you watch it, period. This is where you get to see guys like Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick, even Koepka before they get famous here. Yes. We are the only country in the world using the english system. Even the folks who invented it don't use it. It's a bit self centered to want the Euros to cater to our outdated system. When I was around 7 we were supposed to switch over, what happened?

The Talking Heads feeling the need to fill every last second of broadcast with their babbling. This is not a fast paced game and does not require talking every goddamn second of the broadcast.

This is probably directly related to the people who yell out mashed potatoes. Brain injuries don't just affect your ability to judge outbursts but also affect the attention span. CBS is worried that if the commentator stop speaking people change the channel.

The fact that the only sponsorships for Golf are the most evil corporations in the world.

 

Too much airtime of putting. Watching two minutes of broadcasting as the player lines up the putt, reads the line, takes a million practice strokes, hits the putt, then the caddies fat head is right exactly in front of the hole.

 

PS. I like Gary McCord. Sometimes he can be a bit much for TV but he's quick on his feet and I would also like to play around of golf with him and have a beer. He reminds me of my drunk Uncle Tom.

The only thing I've gotten annoyed by (other than Johnny Miller) is the constant checking of the yardage/green books. They play the same courses year in and year out, and by the time they're on TV they've been playing the course for several days. That tree to the left of the fairway didn't move from last year, and if it's Sunday and you still don't know what direction that putt's going to break, that book isn't going to help you.
