Things that bug me while watching pro golf.

This is when I’m surprisingly sympathetic towards the tv production. They don’t want to show shuffle / shuffle. Some announcers are more vocal about their disdain for it than others, but it’s definitely not something the tv crew promotes - like Feherty.

Watch the softball WS - you’ll hear things said by people that shouldn’t be anywhere near an open mic.

I don't know if it counts but the thing that annoys me is the inability for more and more pros to be able to step in and hit their shot.

 

I don't accept the "they are playing for their livelihoods so they need to get it right" argument because quite frankly if, as most of the contenders do, I had £30 million odd in the bank, the last thing I'd be is stressed. Yes, a handful play for their card etc each year, I get it. But the majority of the top 30 each week are multi millionaires.

 

They have caddies who have mapped out every inch of the course. They play the course multiple times. It just bugs me the time wasting that goes on. I can't think of any other sport where the pros are less and less able to hit shots they hit 1000's of times a week. Then again I don't know any other sport where the fans and governing bodies would stand for it or where the commentary teams repeatedly defend it as precision.

Yeah Faldo was going on how BAD was going to struggle to even tap down hiller it was so fast and with that big putter. He proceeded to take a regular stroke and roll it in w ease.

God that figgety whack job makes Deschambeau seem like the quickest player on tour.

 

I literally watched a replay of him backing off a one foot putt on 16 because of wind. Dude hit the putt! Oh and you cant just step back in and hit it. You have to go through your entire routine on the one foot putt.

Honestly tho (Tl;dr)

 

1)how every shot is so difficult around the greens. I wish they would be more realistic with there narrative

 

2)Doddy what do you see here?

(CAVEAT I like her, just hate when they say that phrase)

 

3) the pro tracer is not accurate enough on errant tee shots. Hard to tell when it's close to the rough. Lack of pro tracer approach shots

 

4) They should come up with better views. Experiment on camera angles. Maybe go old scHool NHL with the glowing puck (golf ball)

 

5) When they show the ball flying through the air and you have no idea where it is in relation to the course

 

6) Fairway to green approach shots are hard to gauge live. Wish there was a better way to watch it.

 

7) it may not work, but it would be interesting to experiment with. In the NFL they have game rewind that eliminates all of the BS and dead time. Watch the entire game after the fact in 30min

 

 

Would be cool if you could see how everyone or featured players (select players of your choice) plays there round

 

Example:

 

Hole 1: tiger, Rory have separate tee times but I want to see how they compare. Tiger tees of you see the footage. Rory tees off you see the footage. So on and so forth.

 

This continues for the entire round

It last happened in about 1995. The groups rarely catch up. Being put on the clock is the biggest joke in sports, worse than traveling in the NBA.

And who said the goal was to catch up? Do you understand what the PGA Tour rules are for slow play?

The penalty on Guan wasn’t imposed by the PGA Tour or in a tour event. If you don’t think being out on the clock is a joke then you aren’t paying attention. Bryson and Cantlay were on the clock all day Sunday and still took an eternity to play. Being on the clock doesn’t affect one thing about how a player plays in a tour event. I do think they take it a bit more seriously in a major where the tour isn’t involved in the rules though and I should have clarified that.

I wish they would put the conditions out there more on shots. Like instead of just saying a player is hitting a 9 from 188 away, maybe have a little thing on screen with elevation above the green and a wind meter graphic on all shots

There are a myriad of articles written about slow play on the pga tour, numerous players and caddies express frustration at slow play in interviews and on social media. The last slow play penalty on an individual player in a tour event was in 1995. They did assess one in the team event last year I believe. Players know slow play penalty strokes aren’t going to be assessed.

The absolute gushing by Golf Channel over Shinnecock. You would think it is golf's version of Valhalla. I get that it's a great course, but please, keep it in perspective.

I've been privileged to play a couple of the founding courses and there is a deep appreciation for walking in the footsteps of those who created the USGA and this great game. There are few places in life where you can literally walk in history and experience what those before us have experienced.
