How about when they lay that track down on the screen, the putt never follows the line and goes in. Even better was Cantlay’s putt late in yesterday’s round that hugged the line the entire way and missed.

I’m still in the corner with my tinfoil hats thinking that because of the ability to go around the course and put shots on tape (even 20 seconds later) giving the announcers just enough time to tell us how hard the shot is and somehow he “pulls it off”. I absolutely think they use the delay to their advantage.

Not really sure that being announced as plain Nick Faldo is a breach of the terms of his KBE or knighthood. Our last Club Captain was/is a ‘knight of the British Empire ‘ or a Sir. He never ever introduced himself as such or was never introduced publicly as such. He did sign letters as Sir .... ..... but that normally came as a surprise as he is a low key sort of bloke. It might help getting the odd restaurant reservation but isn’t really a big deal over here.

 

I didn't suggest that it is any sort of "big deal" in the UK. I think that's part of the story, in fact. That Americans deride Jim Nantz (and perhaps by extension Faldo) for what is Nantz's application of ordinary, standard protocol regarding Faldo's entitlement. Because Americans don't understand and can't be bothered to learn any new or foreign things.

 

I am pushing on this specifically because I have seen so many anti-Nantz and so many pro-Amanda comments in this thread, and my view is the total opposite as to both of them.

 

Trust me, Americans "understand and have bothered to learn" that Nantz is a sycophant for many other reasons other than always calling Nick Faldo sir. Its on display every week. I suppose that us provincial Americans need to be thankful for Jim or we may have to listen to more of that young woman Balionis! *gasp*

Players asking for rules officials to discuss a ruling. That's the worst 5 minutes or more I can spend. And they tend to treat it as must see TV. Seeing Speith take like 20 minutes to get a ruling that basically turned the tournament by stretching the rules (yeah I know you can take a unplayable blah blah but he did that and then backed into some trailers that were in the way so he could move it to a more advantageous line). He hit a great shot from there, but watching that coverage was torture and definitely didn't win him any fans. If I took a drop like that during play in a casual round imagine the eye rolls I would get lol.

I think you need to differentiate between a million dollar pay check and a legacy that will outlast your lifetime, vs your 5 dollar nassau.

Sorry to beat a dead horse since I'm sure this has been brought up tons with JB, but slow play is so irritating. I hate following a group who is being held up and having to occupy 6 hours of my day on watching one person's round of golf.

 

I honestly dont get how slow play can ever be an issue when the tournament is televised. Like why can't they just show when the player is hitting the ball, then switch to another group. Instead of watching one guy go through his entire process from walking up to the ball.
