There was a “gimmie” hole of only 129 yards. Was 2 feet from dropping, needed a little more backspin.

My brother who dosnt hit the ball a long way came within inches last year. 175 yards, 30 degree day with a ton of wind in our face. He took driver and almost dunked it. It was so cool and hilarious at the same time.

My closest last year, and very nearly my closest ever, was about 8" from the cup from 172 yards. I was playing by myself, poorly, and pissed-off because none of my expected 3 playing partners showed up for our tee time.

 

Heck, the only thing I've ever holed-out other than green side was my first eagle; 196 yards which I didn't even see go in.

165 yds, all carry, 7-8 mph wind into us. 6 iron that hit behind the hole and somehow ended up in front of the hole. I thought that was finally the day. . . . . not to be.

Thought I finally got one Thursday of Masters Week. Was playing at Bald Mountain in Lake Lure, NC. Hit a 6-iron a little thin but right on line on a 160 yard part three, hit just on the front about 15 feet short. It nicked the pin & stopped about 6 inches directly behind the hole.

 

Oh well, I've only been playing about 48 years...

Hit the base of a couple pins, left one a couple inches away so the usual suspects for me 30+ years playing 0 aces

I hit a 157m par 3 within 2cm just last month. Never hit an ace in competition. My son has one and my dad has one. My boy sagely tells me these things do tend to skip a generation.

I hit one to about 18 inches in the fall. Maybe this year!

 

One of my playing buddies hit one so close I swear half the ball mark was over the hole. How that one didn't drop I have no idea.

165yd 8 iron rode a little slope and came to rest 3 inches from the hole this morning. We were following a charity tournament and their closest to the pin marker was about 4 feet out, but we weren't part of the tournament so I didn't get that either, lol.

Came OH SO CLOSE last week. 120 yard down hill, front pin, .1/2 club of wind in my face. Hit my 50 degree about 3 feet past the flag, one big hop then spun back and hit the pin! Didn't stay down, rolled about 2 feet past the hole. I did make the bird. Victory Hills in Deland Fl hole #11

I have had a hole in one before so I may not qualify for the topic, but I came so close to making a hole in one 2 days ago. Downhill par 3 from 226, hit a perfect 5 iron draw, landed inches from the hole and rolled out to about a foot. My dad made his first hole in one on this same hole a few months ago.

Didn't have to wait long for my close call this year (which is number 26 without a hole in one).

 

154 Yard par 3, hit 3 inches to the right of the cup, bounced forward and spun back to end up about 2 inches to the left.

Have had 3 very close calls so far this year but they don't go in for me.

1) stopped 6 inches short of hole

2) Hit just in front of pin, bounced into pin and then back 18 inches in front of hole

3) Hit a foot behind cup, bounced forward and then spun back just missing the hole

 

A few others that looked like they had a chance but it was not to be.

I played Tobacco Road in NC a few weeks back. Almost aced #8. I cleared the bunkers in front of the green and the ball fed about 40 feet down to the hole from the right side of the picture. Was fun to track it from the tee box 165 yards away.

Hit one this past weekend to about 4.5 feet, my closest yet. But it was a rinky dink little par 3 about 110 downhill. (cheap local course with a short front 9 and decent back 9)

Hit one about 8 inches to the cup on a short 135 yrd par 3 last month. It was a scramble tourny and got closest to the pin on that hole. Won a dozen balls.

149 yard's down wind with a 9i- ball bounced up and forward and hit the flag, but as you can see it spun back. This was my playing partners shot, but he doesn't frequent these boards No bueno!

Played in a shotgun start Super Bowl Tournament with about 80 players at the Nellis AFB golf course back in 2006. They were giving away prizes for aces for the tournament, so there were observers on all the par 3 greens. On a hole playing about 210, my tee shot was all over the flag. Drove up to find the ball sitting an inch away, and the observer said it had done a 180* lip-out.

 

The silver lining is that the bar tab for that one would have been murderous.

I was playing by myself and hit a PW and knew it was good... couldn't see the landing area... and walked up...

You name it, I've done it. Lip Outs, roll by's, pin bangers, flag catches, and other cruel twists. This year, another lip out; about 160, slightly downhill into a breeze off the left. Green slopes a bit from back to front. High draw holding against the breeze- looks good from tee.. landed about 10 ft wide right about 5 feet short... bounced once to the left a bit past the hole, then took the break back toward the cup. DENIED.. after lipping it finished about 12-18" away...

 

What's REALLY cruel over the year (45 years and counting) is that I only couldn't see the ball just missing or lipping out twice. One was uphill and another was a tucked pin behind a bunker and mounding. So I don't know if they lipped out, rolled close or what... All the others I saw the torture first hand..

Closest ever was 6 inches or so. I’ve holed out from 150 and 120 on par 4s, but I’m still waiting for my first ace.

I have had an ace before, but this seems like a good place to post.

 

Missed a hole in one today, landed it in the hole on the fly from 186, bounced back out and left me with a foot or so for my birdie.

The right side of the hole was pretty destroyed. Wasnt sure if I should have been happy because it was a great shot, or mad it didnt stay down.

Yesterday landed an 8 iron 3 inches from the cup. Ended up 10 feet past.

Yesterday landed 3 wood 3 yards short of pin, hit pin dead on, ended up 6 inches from the cup.

Been with couple feet 5 or so times this summer with a fee ball marks within inches.
