2018 Titleist AVX Golf Balls

I like the AVX, the good news is that they dropped the price to $39, the bad news is that they are $39. I played Z-Stars for years and stopped to try out some other balls. Now that they are $29 I may go back to them.

I like the AVX as they cut through the wind like nothing else I have ever played.

Received a Golf Galaxy flyer in the mail today for Black Friday that has the Pro-V1 line for 39.99 (Chrome Softs as well) which makes sense with new Pro V1/Chrome Soft lines coming in 2019. Perhaps Titleist is dropping the AVX price as well.

How do they feel off the putter?

Most golfers' shots into greens are short, not long, so for me, this ball has a lot of merit by not spinning back and actually rolling out more toward the pin. For those tricky hop hop stop pitch shots, the ProV1 would be better, but I suck at those anyway, so I'm going to give AVX a shot. However, if they don't feel soft off the putter, I will kick it to the curb.

Clearly softer than the Pro V1x. Similar feel to the V1.

My local golf shop (not at a course) a few weeks ago. I did notice that no one had dropped their price but the other places could have if they wanted to. It was a nice surprise that day.

  • 2 weeks later...

I played a few holes with the Bridgestone Tour B XS ball yesterday and soon put the AVX back in play. Always good to see how other balls perform and the result was I am even more confident that the AVX is a great ball for myself and my game.

A local course near me dropped the ProVs (both) to $39 but not the AVX. This was BEFORE the now common round of price drops for the "season" and before they release the new balls to the public.

I believe only the ProVs are coming out with the new ball but NOT the AVX. The AVX will be carried over as it, hence no price drop on them - at least none that I've seen. :dntknw:

I picked up 48 5A Yellow AVX balls from LostGolfBalls...A good dozen of them were definitely not mint but I guess for $2 per ball, I can live with it.

Im heading to JAX for a golf trip next week and we are playing Slammer&Squire, King&Bear and TPC Dye Valley... With the amount of water on these courses, I'm sure I will donate a few back!

Excellent ball. Very, very close to my XVs and they are both YELLOW. Distance off driver slightly longer with the AVX but at the price point of the XV, the XV is still my gamer ball. However, if I have to hit a long one, the AVX comes out.

Honestly when these came out I thought I would never try them. I figured they were going to be an overpriced crap ball like the NXT, but after reading about them and how a lot of people liked them, I can’t wait to possibly try them out in the spring. Maybe.

I loved them, and they have more check around the green then whats been said, they are a great all around ball...i wont change

I honestly am surprised to hear you compare it to the XV. I love the XV and did not care much for the AVX. XV has better short game control and a higher flight for me. Also the XV is completely different off the putter face.

Golf is great that way , we all feel and experience things differently.

I played 18 today in 42 degree weather with a stiff 15 mph wind. I used the yellow AVX ball for the last 10 holes. I am a high speed, high spin and high trajectory player and the AVX is money for me. The ball pierces through the wind and goes a mile. In wind, I usually have a big problem with ballooning but had no such problem today. ALSO, When the ball plugged(almost every shot) the mud came right off as well. I do not know why but the AVX stays cleaner than any ball I have used and is super durable. Once I get through the 7 or 8 dozen premium balls I have in garage I am going to play the AVX exclusively.

Friends have said I’m mental for saying this but I’m 100% convinced the yellow AVX is more durable than the white AVX. I’ve played both for a season and I’ve played 2-3 rounds with the yellow and that was until I lost it.

"Mental" is such an ugly word. :D

I've played upwards of 50 rounds with both and they are the same. I've played up to 3 rounds with a single white ball. If anything the 2 yellows I have remaining are both scuffed. :dntknw:

While I have not played the AVX yet, the way my proshop explained the performance difference between these and the ProV1/V1x was that the AVX should have been called the ProV1xx in the context of ProV1-speak.

Good analogy or not?

Not sure I follow. The AVX is low flight, low spin and low compression in comparison to the Pro V1/V1x. Naming a ball Pro V1xx would mean highest flight, highest spin and highest compression.
