Maltby TS2

Someone said that the the Maltby FW would not perform as well as any OEM.

I went to the range with the KE4 4w and the Sim Ti 3w. I turned the Sim 3w up to 16°.

They had identical Pro TSL TS shafts.

First off the consistency of the KE4 was far better to the eye. Straight as could be with a boring flight. Just as I've been seeing in play.

The Sim felt like the ball was screaming off the face but it wasn't very consistent. Again just as I've seen on course.

When I checked the Mevo data I was surprised at how much better distance wise I was getting with the KE4. Which shouldn't have surprised me with how straight it was. The Sim was all over the place and the data showed. The distance is carry only.

Smash factor was higher with the Sim but it just wasnt being swung as fast as the KE4. And I was getting after it. No idea why club head speed was that much lower but ball speed was nearly the same. The Sim data and the KE4 data was nearly duplicated in separate mevo sessions. First picture is the KE4. I deleted two Sim swings that were bad. 670089944_Screenshot_20210720-154131_SamsungInternet.jpg.cbccaaf021b6f19c4e7372d0f3c50be5.jpg

My 14* 3W KC Tour is only 5 yards longer than my 4w at 17*. Both have a kuro kage Shaft

A KE4 TC 4w I built for a customer is actually longer than his Callaway 3w. And easier to hit. For a lot of players that added loft gives better carry and control. Where the 3w doesn't keep the ball in the air long enough to gain distance. Whether a lack of club head speed or skill.

On your Mevo (assuming it’s the Mevo +?) do you have to use the metallic stickers? I’ve got the small Mevo and was curious about the stickers and spin rates on the Mevo +

No I have the regular Mevo. Outdoors only for this setup. No stickers needed.  Winter I have unlimited access to a Flightscope booth setup.

I might be getting a CG quad in a month or so. So that will change a lot of things. I'll build a dedicated outdoor setup.

I don't like the data setup for the Mevo. Its not great for comparing heads or shafts. You just can't combine data at all. With the Big Flightscope I can.

Anytime you have limited flight (short indoor or indoor modes) the stickers will provide more accuracy.

And, hitting into a net outdoor still requires use of short indoor or indoor mode.

Stickers are not necessary for long indoor or outdoor mode.

Also, MEVO+ is nice for use at the range because you can set the ball type to "range ball" so it will adjust estimates of carry and spin.

At the range, I separate my bucket between the true range balls and any "real balls" I get in the bucket.  Then, adjust MEVO+ ball type when I hit the real balls.  It really is amazing.

I think "little MEVO" is actually the best value for game improvement, as its clubhead speed, ball speed, and spin readings are right on.

As much Testing as I do I still couldn't justify the added cost of the Mevo +.

Yesterday, Bushnell announced they will release a LM co-branded with Foresight sometime this fall.  That piques my interest.

A couple of weeks ago, Garmin announced upcoming release of the R10, a doppler-based radar for a price tag of $600 plus a $100 annual subscription fee.  But, the cheesy "first release" review videos I've seen set the G10 up for a big fall.  Also, I'm just not seeing how estimated spin is going to work.

Table look ups from other parameters . The biggest problem I see with it is it’s require about 8 feet behind and 10-12 feet of ball flight

6' behind, from the R10 documentation. I did not see ball flight requirements, but I didn't look very hard.

Estimated spin is completely irrelevant - it's good enough to play sim golf and to practice. The big game changer with the R10 for joe's like me trying to practice and improve, which Mevo should have done a long time ago, is the AoA, club path and club face data (face to target and face to path, which are likely both estimated).

I had an extra M890 14° head. I shafted it with an Avalon 5 which is a 50g shaft. S flex. I threw it together with a specific golfer in mind but was dying to hit it.

First off the Matte Black is a great looking head. It sits well behind the ball. I kind of struggled with tee height where it had so much loft. But my buddy was smashing it all over the place. He struggles with launch out of the tee box and the club was perfect for him.

It was a shortish course today and it played well. I took it to the range after we played 18.

As i figured it carries about 10-13 yards short of my 9.5 KE4. But I could see this having a place in the bag on specific courses. Also it has a great feel coming off the face. Overall a very very solid club.

I put it against a KE4 TC and an ISO-T (which has been out of the bag for a while).

If the ISO-T wasn't so fade biased it might kick the KE4 out... but I have much more control with the KE4.

Finally got the TSW in and tested/played with it.

Coming from Vokeys, the biggest thing I was most apprehensive of was the sole width. Purely for aesthetic reasons, since I prefer a more narrow sole. I still wish the sole looked a little smaller, but I've gotten accustomed to it, and no complaints. With that being said, I'm extremely happy with the wedge.

It can pull off all the shots around the green. High, low, roll out, quick stoppers; it can do it all. No issues with it on full swings, I really like it. I really enjoy using it on half shots or touch shots from 30 to 60 yards either.

It looks nice too; it's sexy in the bag, even without any changes. I made a minor, minor adjustment aesthetically to suit my eye, and I'm really happy with the purchase. I got a 52 getting shafted up in the DRM finish just to check out the finish, as I bought it after being pleased with the 56. I'll likely choose the finish I like best in future wedge purchases. 😉

Which sole grind were you playing in your vokeys? How would you say this sole compares?

Popeye , I've been hitting my wife's Adams F11  3 and 5 woods forever and she wants them back!

Any recommendations from the Maltby stable?

That Adam's is a face fwd type of design and if you look at the 3 current Maltby heads none of them quite achieve that. In order. KE4 - Sti2 - M890.

You will notice that left to right the crown grows further back. The M890 is meant for slower swing speeds and will get the ball up fairly quickly. But as with the driver they are not overly spinny. So the higher flight won't penalize and give you a shot that will flair out.

I would have to say look to the M890 as an easier to hit replacement for those Adam's.

Just received my HyWay 23 from GW today. It's a bit bigger than I thought it would be. Nice looking head. The fit and finish is on par with anything else I've seen perusing the local golf shops. Going to shaft it up with a Tensei CK Orange 5w pull tonight so I can put it in play Saturday. My 20 degree BB19 hybrid plays at 40", so I will trim it to the same length.

I'm the worst person to ask when it comes to sole grinds, as I'm not the most sensitive to those things. I got the D grind based on the fitter who I trust completely.

The sole works and more forgiving around the greens.  Square clubface shots around the green were probably the most apparent where the sole was forgiving. It definitely helped out on a few shots.

I had no issues closing the face down either. I enjoyed opening up the clubface as well on more delicate shots around the green. I'd say it was probably better than the Vokey on those shots.

Could you take some pic’s comparing to your D grind?

Thank you eBay for these beauty’s, still recovering from a back surgery but it sure is fun building this stuff and reading everyone’s posts on this thread, I am learning so much more about Maltby. I now have two completed sets of irons, Sti2’s these PTM’s (wish I had the 4&5) and a full set of DBM heads that I pulled for a future project. Wanted to share this build even if the ferrules aren’t turned yet, but  I’m pretty pleased. I should buy Popeye a beer for bring the PTM to my attention what a great looking club!
