Tiger Woods 2019 Taylormade Irons...P7TW?

hokiealumn

Recommended Posts

Help me understand. Why would anyone want to buy these? Because a guy who may win a few more times before his career is over is using a set that sort of looks like them? They're nice looking blades but nothing different than any others that are available. What happens when he changes irons 2 weeks after your set comes in?

I've just never understood the jockgrabbing of having to have "the same thing that pro guy is using"

So explain like I'm a golden retriever or a small child :)

I'd say they are an upgrade to the TaylorMade blade lineup and it's been 2 years since their previous blade release. It's a little sooner than normal for a new blade release but it's been said since Tiger signed on with TM they would release a Tiger Woods inspired blade. From everything we've seen this is a much different blade than all other TaylorMade blades and it checks many boxes that blade players are looking for. It's an upgrade in a lot of areas as well to the P730 irons too. Anything you put Tiger's name on is going to get attention and people will want it. Just the way it is when you are arguably the greatest golfer of all time and one of the most famous athletes in the entire world. As a sponsor why wouldn't you take advantage of it? Also, I don't see Tiger changing irons anytime in the near future. Once he finds something that fits the eye it takes a lot for him to change out the irons. Also now that they can mill these irons they can keep making exact sets for Tiger.

The one thing I don't get is wanting Tiger's exact specs if you are planning on putting them in your bag. Display set for the office/man cave I completely understand but why would you want Tiger's specs and game the irons? Everything shows you should be getting fit and playing what fits your game best. It is awesome that TaylorMade is offering the custom options already today for these irons so they can fit the consumers specs and have success gaming them.

If you watch the promo videos on TMs website for the irons, Tiger says the MG process makes it so they can replicate as many sets of irons as they need with the exact same specs. So I feel, this is most likely the iron he’s going to play until he either leaves TM or retires.

I am somewhat dumbfounded over the fact that TM is trying to market "a premium unboxing experience… as a way that pays tribute to the heartfelt collaboration of Tiger Woods and TaylorMade Golf" to partially justify the price tag.

What in god's name does this mean? Not the unboxing part. I understand that and think that it is stupid.

I'm talking about the other part, after the ellipses. How does opening a box (even if it does provide a "premium" experience) pay tribute to anything other than a shallow consumer culture?

Oh wait, now I get it...

Nope It’s not really. It’s a great looking set of irons. With a lot of questions and secret info. I ask because I don’t know. And seemingly nobody else does either. The main page article clearly says “ limited release with commemorative boxing and a custom order release “. Which i assume means retail orders minus the box. So I also assume that they will be closer to 730 prices minus the $800 box. Yes ?

Wow. Sure does look about as general as a release can be! I just saw my order form through our pro shop....strangely, for lofts it says "standard".... on the TM site it says either "Tiger" or "stock." Hopefully our rep will make sure they're Tiger lofts....oh well....can always bend them....

I just think this was a no brainer. Look at how coveted the old Titleist T blades or VRs are.....those were a general release and are now super coveted. Also, as someone who would love to own a full set of Artisan irons some day, it's pretty darn cool that Mike Taylor had a hand in these. I could care less whether they are "exclusive" or "limited" and I'm very glad they aren't. If someone thinks they're cool and gets joy out of owning them, he/she should have that chance.

Am I good enough for blades? Probably not. Did I grow up playing blades because that's all they made? Yup. Also, I 100% maintain that playing those baldes (butter knife Spalding Executives) taught me how to crave a pure strike and executive it on occasion (pun intended).

Bottom line - I applaud TM for doing this....thanks for giving us all a chance to look at what TW does as he was a hero to many of us. If you are "good enough" for them, good for you. If you're not, good for you if you want to enjoy them for what they are - clubs made for the most talented player to ever play the game.

If i got a set of TW irons, I would have to rework my entire set to get my make up right..... As it stands i would end up with 15 clubs.... Hmmm.

If I went TM standard I could just bend the 3 iron a bit strong it would work. If i went Tiger lofts, (which i really like) I would have to add a 2 iron. But, i really like my 4 wedge set up. I currently play a 48* PW, a 52, 58 and 64.

I was looking at the same thing. If I went with Tiger lofts I’d have to either loft up my 3w which I don’t want to do cause it will close the face or I’d have to drop a wedge, but I really like my 3 wedge setup (52,56,60)

Interesting. I’m going to have to call TM CS before I place my order just to find out. I’m loving the 49* pw though!

Saw that too! Really odd considering on the TW website it lists Tiger lofts AND stock lofts...odd...
