From what I’ve read, the CB has a thinner top line than the TC.

That’s true. A buddy of mine demoed both and the TC top line is THICC

@teedub21 Hmmm that is interesting I appreciate you both pointing that out will stick with the CB's then and maybe look at the MB's further down the line.

@USMgolfer1 Did you buddy prefer one to another?

FYI the 659CB's are by no means a big iron. My good friend is a mini tour pro who uses the ZX7 and he took one look at the 659CB and was like "nooo, too small for me"

I mean everything is personal preference, but the CBs are small irons. Small cavity back.....they aren't much bigger than my PXG blades

Stuck with his AP2s for the time being. I have a set of 649 MB Tours though and very happy with them

Agreed and should of prefaced that as they are definitely give a players look and for the small size the forgiveness is amazing!

If it hasn't happened already, equivalent increases from the big OEMs will be coming.

Good point, that’s the sad truth! I see the new Paradym irons from Callaway are going for $200 a stick. Others had been at that price before but those were typically fancy forgings and not quite the norm. Like everything else lately, seems prices just keep climbing. Now if only I could get a 15% raise to keep up…

Got the 659CB demo clubs on the range today. First shot with the 9 iron I literally hit the flag stick on the hole I was aiming at. Took my new Ping i230 6,9 iron and the same in my Wilson Staff V6 irons. I concluded I don’t like the Ping short irons. Too light. The 6 iron feels better. The Wilson’s are solid. Great feel and decent distance. The 659’s felt great, accurate, and great distance. FWIW DG R300 shafts in SUB70, DG105 S flex in Pings and Aldila Tour 90 graphite in the Wilson. I have concluded I like the feel of a heavier shaft better.

My issues with the Sub70’s are twofold. For almost $200 less I can get a new set of Srixon ZX7 irons or for $200 more Titleist T100S irons. Second, what’s up with the offset?  For what is considered a “players” iron the offset reminds me of a Ping G series iron.

Gonna try and hit them again tomorrow. Then hopefully this weekend hit them off grass.

Played with the 004 mallet today, first time out with it. Received it earlier this week so no real practice time with it other than on the putting green prior to the round. Regardless, again the quality of the Sub70 putters exceeds the price. The 004 is forgiving, has a crisp sound, and is soft off the face. Could have had a better putting day overall but that's more rust from not having played in a couple months. Hoping to see how it plays for the season and glad to add it to the collection with the 005WB and 007.

Really hoping they add a longer plumbers/slant neck option to their 001 model line to knock some toe hang off.

I got an 001 a couple months ago and really like it so far (indoor practice only though).  If it had adjustable weights in the heel and toe, it would be really something.  I wonder if they can just drill out a couple pockets???

Seeing as the current 001 is out stock, maybe a gen 2 is on the way. Weight ports wouldn't really be out of the question as the double wides have them.

How are the 799 SGI irons? How do they compare to the big three? Halo, Trail and LP's?

TheTXG YouTube channel compared them and they did very well against the Halos.

Any reviews on the TAIII wedges yet?

Just played my first two rounds with the TAIII wedges coming from PXG Sugar Daddy Wedges and I've been very impressed. They spin like crazy and they launch a bit higher than my previous PXG's. Had to adjust as not used to have my ball ripping back like it was on the greens. They're great looking I got them in satin kinda wishing I opted for the tour black as they look incredible!

I'm here because I'm a tight wad, and I'm curious about trying out some Sub 70s!
What's the consensus on how they compare to other premium forged irons?

That's how I ended up being a shill for Sub 70. I tend to be a tight wad and search high and low for the best deals.

I can't speak for everyone, but I currently play the 639 MB/CB combo. Prior to them I had Taylormade P770's and then Mizuno JPX 900 Tours before that. The 770's are obviously not a single forging and the feel reflects that. In comparison to the 639's, they felt like garbage. The 639's are much closer to a Mizuno feel. I haven't hit Mizuno's in a while but I can tell you that I'd have to hit each back to back to pick up any subtle differences. The 639's feel just as good as any premium forging out there.

One reason I'd give them a whirl is because if you're cost-conscious, there is only so much anyone can do with a single billet of metal. Any differences between the Sub 70 forged irons and any other premium MBs/CBs would be marginal. The separation would probably be more aesthetic than anything else. So it comes down to whether you think the extra money spent to have a more popular name on your sticks makes a difference for you. Some do some don't.

I would not apply this same logic though to non-single forging clubs. I'm sure their driver and other more tech-infused clubs are great (I actually have their 949x pro hybrid and absolutely love it) but that's where I think bigger companies with more R&D will have an edge.
