Looks very, very compact. Do you also have the hybrid? Would like to see pictures of that with a ball.

Here’s a picture of my 4H with the ball. The other picture is of the Cobra hybrid it replaced. They seem similar.24B078C1-94FB-45F0-88ED-D2009BE21933.jpeg.136ea55188d44043c58604116454f81c.jpegD6AD6365-AC51-4A64-BAAB-B26EDEF97AE3.jpeg.f018574c7252c308288a2547a633288c.jpeg

Any chance of a future iteration of 699 in a raw finish?

I was fortunate to run into a couple of sub 70 guys warming up for their round. They were very friendly and offered to let me hit the 699, which felt very much like the forged mizunos I was hitting!

I saw a raw cb and they are gorgeous in person.

I will be setting up an appointment in Sycamore soon.

I’m also curious about players experience regarding forgiveness on the 659 cb. Based on my handicap I’m sure I would be fit into a 699 but I’m more concerned about accuracy vs distance on irons. I like a touch of offset but find some game improvement irons to be too chunky looking to inspire much confidence.

I have been playing old mizuno mx23 forged irons and love the feel and shape. I wonder if I might be able to game the cb with the raw finish….guess I’ll schedule a fitting and really nail it down.

thanks

I have both the 699 Pro Black irons and the 659 TC irons (raw) so I'll give you my feedback.

Both feel/sound fantastic.  The 659 TC is more true to a forged iron feel/sound.  While 699 Pro is a filled hollow body, it isn't clicky by any means.  The feel/sound is soft but has more of a "pop" off the face and is definitely a bit more forgiving on mis-hits.

Down by the ball the 699 Pro irons look much bigger than the 659 TC but they are very friendly and you feel like you can just play away without thinking too much.  Very confidence inspiring.  The 659 TC are not hard to hit in their own right but they are more of a player's profile so you need to be hitting the middle of the face somewhat consistently to get the best performance.

For perspective I'm a 6 handicap.  Overall my ballstriking is a decent part of my game and I really enjoy the forged feel/sound of the 659 TC, so that is my "everyday iron" in the bag.  That said, I love gaming the 699 Pro irons and could live with those in the bag all day long.  In fact, I know scratch golfers playing that very iron.

I'd say if you don't hit the middle as much and need a little more help then confidently go with the 699 Pro irons.  Otherwise the 659 CB and/or TC irons are amazing.

Does anybody know if there will be a holiday sale this year?

Sounds like a question for JaySub70. I seem to remember they did something for Black Friday last year.

How do you like the 5 wood?  I would like to pick up a 4 wood to play around with next season.  Sub 70 looks like quality equipment at a reasonable price.  Might be just what I am looking for.

Currently I’m testing the 659CB and the 699 Pros. I’ve gotten my handicap down to about a 12 using some Cobra F9 speedback irons and wanted to see about forged clubs and thought the 659 CB were cool to test.

I’m still testing them out but they look really great but I don’t know if it’s me, I just don’t really feel much of a difference between the forged 659CB and the 699 Pro. I’m sure it’s just me not picking up on the difference. I tested the 9 iron and they’re definitely smaller. It gave plenty of height to my shot. Testing out the 6 iron was a little trickier. I don’t know if it’s because it was near the end of my range session and I was tired but I was struggling to get the 6 iron in the air. It definitely inspired less confidence due to the slim profile of the 6 iron. I’m going to take them out to the range in the next couple of days to try the 6 irons and compare.

Sub 70 is very interesting and I’ve been looking at their site, also talked to them and a fitter.  I play PXG 0311p irons and have had a good demo with the Ping i525.  Graphite shaft fitting for me is tricky…playing the MMT 80 stiff, which is good but not perfect.

Sub 70 has limited no up-charge graphite, but if I get lucky with what few minimal price shafts they do offer, Sub 70 irons could be about half the price of Pings.  I don’t doubt the new 699 head (January) will be good.

On the other hand, if I have to get a premium shaft, the price gap closes dramatically. Finally, the resell situation with Ping is terrific, plus playability guarantees (Pgass) minimize risk.

So it’s interesting but not quite a slam dunk.  Am I missing anything?

Word on the street is that unfortunately the Sub 70 account got banned from posting. There is a Black Friday promo going on though

The only promo I see on their site is for polos. Maybe the clubs are discounted and I just haven’t followed them that closely. But, if so, it’s not strongly shown.

Could be they arent renewing sponsorship in 2023 but that's just a guess.
