I would guess Ashkay and Hovland both wanted to sign with TM, but didn’t get Wolff type offers? Don’t quite know

Have to assume Callaway opened up the checkbook and made a crazy offer. I had assumed he'd sign with TaylorMade given the relationship that had been established. Can't sign them all, I guess.

After Wolff and Morikawa signing and immediately winning with TM, I would guess Callaway thought they had to get someone young newsworthy and threw everything they had at him. I did notice he wasn't using a TM driver at the US AM and some of the Walker Cup photos I've seen. Makes sense now, but yeah, very surprising given the past relationship with TM.

Think he’s gonna struggle. Skipping college rarely works out as you get competitive D1 reps every day plus learn how to be social and an adult. Not to mention free education and mentoring from your coaches. Kinda doesn’t make sense skipping to me considering all the benefits. It’s not like b-ball or football where an injury can ruin your career early (generally).

Every situation is different and unique. The nay Sayers came out when Tiger Woods signed a ten year contract with NIKE, that contract was a win for Nike and a win for the Woods camp. Some times an equipment change can free you up and sometimes the endorsement cash can make you too relaxed and not hungry enough…..we'll see what happens.

If so I agree Callaway must've really opened their pocketbook. Outside of Xander, the current crop of young Callaway staffers really isn't very impressive tbh. Most of their big names are a little longer in the tooth (Phil, Stenson, Sergio).

OK he didn’t get an eye catching win like Wolff or Morikawa but Hovland’s numbers are exceptional. His career trajectory is on course for great things.

From his personality when I saw him speak in videos. Nothing wrong with having confidence but this guy hasn’t done anything yet to be as cocky as he is.

Perhaps he liked the Callaway equipment better after he hit it....funny a site for people who change clubs constantly talking down on someone who is like any other golfer...the money is simply gravy for him in the long run but I do agree he shouldn’t skip college...something to fall back on...

Not to mention his strokes gained approach. They didn’t count, as he wasn’t a member...but had they counted he would have been ranked 3rd in SG approach.

Not an account talking, but I'm assuming giving someone equipment and service is a tax writeoff, where a contract costs real money. TM is great but they can't pay everyone.

I think he's pretty overrated. Kudos for winning the Jones Cup but hasn't won any other high level amateur events that weren't junior events

I think he's too young to have anything but a distinguished junior career.

I’m all in on Hovland, but please don’t compare his stats during the birdie fest stretch of events he played in to the yearlong resume of Rory
