2020 TaylorMade SIM and SIM Max drivers (in hand photos, M5/M6 comparison pics)

2nd round in. I think I recorded the best driving round ever for me today when Considering length and accuracy. I hit it as many times as possible today. Very deep on several holes. I mean really deep for near zero roll ( wet out ) and only missed 1 fairway. Really getting along with the ventus Max combo. Haven’t touched a monitor yet , but hitting it so good I don’t even want to know what the numbers are.

I am interested in a stronger fairway wood ( currently a weak 4 wood ). But I’m really picky. It has to launch easy and have a certain solid feel. The M5 TI did not do that for me. I thought it felt horrible off the face no matter where you hit it. Hope the Sim is more like the M2-m4 tour heads.

I used to play the M2 3HL (16.5*), but the SIM Ti 3 (15*) was so good. I don't hit 3 wood off the deck much so I tested it off the tee, but it had incredible distance and with the right shaft it was so smooth and easy to keep in control. Distance was pretty insane as well.

The SIM Ti 5 wood, on the other hand, I was able to hit it super easily out of the turf (even put one in a divot to test it) and it got up in the air nicely

Thanks. That sounds like my experiences some though. I don’t tee up w 3 wood much over the turf. As I hit down on it. So I prefer one that’s easy to elevate off the deck. It’s about control. But. The 4 wood in playing ping g410 , is just 20 yards short of where I’d prefer on a fade. But. I love everything else about it. Size , shallow , and easy as heck too hit. It will take a great club to knock it out.

im interested in the Sim ( Max) and the cobra offerings. Cobra has a leg up in turf interaction with the rails. But I’ve found their faces to be mushy soft feeling and I liked a little sound for feedback.

Going into the fitting I assumed I'd fit into the SIM max because my goal is to maximize forgiveness in the long game, but the SIM Ti gave me the best dispersion (left-right but also distance dispersion)

took me 3 times trying it out before i placed my order, only because i couldn't believe the numbers i was seeing but finally ordered last night. Ordered the SIM in 8* with the HZRDUS Green 6.5 X-Stiff, seeing legitimate 15 more yards of carry, spin numbers significantly down, and ball speeds up 4-5 mph from my current PXG driver. Getting 280+ carry with total distances 300-320, i've never seen that before on golf galaxy simulators, ordered a rocket 3w as well -- my carry/distance numbers with that were more in line with my current driver

The M5 was terrible. I think it had something to do with that big weight in the sole. The SIM plays and feels much better.

Good to hear. I haven’t had an opportunity to hit one yet. But I have a synergy blue 70tx that’s TM tipped and ready ! Lol

Agree on the m5. It was long. No doubt. But weird feeling club for me all around. At the same time. I had an m3 5 wood that was a pleasure. And a 17m1 3 wood I played till I finally cracked all the good heads I could find. So not a TM hater. Per sey. Just seem to be hot or cold with their stuff.

Never tried the M5, no 4w options and 400 dollar fairway woods were past the point of diminishing returns IMO.

Bladehunter, I am a lot like you in that I hit down on the ball. I am looking at the Ping G410 LST. I was fit into a Ventus Blue 7X, but wasnt sure I wanted to pay the big upcharge on shaft for a club I will only hit a few times a round. I have tried a handful of stock options, but cant find the right one that will get me 90% of the way there. So I may have to pay up and get the real deal Ventus. I picked up an M6 3W on sale before Christmas, had better dispersion on trackman in the simulator than G410 LST, (LST wanted to stay left), even though I usually hit a fade. But i did not like the feel of the stock ATMOS Orange shaft and it had face taped up as I was at GG and they didnt have a demo left...so I am sure that added another variable. I am excited to try the Sim Max 3W and see what one of the TM reps can fit me for at a local day coming up, although I also tried a Mavrik Max 3W, and it seemed easy to launch...so wondering if that might be an option if I could find the right non upcharge shaft.

Mavrik Standard won for me over Sim Max and G410+, all the data with Tensei White 70TX playing at 44.25"

It was just all around better, particularly in the ballspeed department. I still have yet to go Into a brand agnostic fitting and not be surprised by the results to be honest. The standard Mavrik is not what i expected coming into this. Swing is in a better place and got me out of the super low spin heads for the first time ever, they just couldn't get in the air enough and were kind of falling out of the sky, that included G410LST, SIM and Mavrik Subzero. Needless to say i'm excited for the Mavrik. Really hit a nice spot for distance and accuracy combined.

Curious.

Whats your most often impact spot ?

Id wager a guess that your impact spot suits the maverick a touch better. Is it high toe ? And I also noticed that you seem to hit farther up more often with the Sim. At least compared to the 410. For me with those numbers it would come down to feel and dispersion.

also. Are you a high ball hitter ? If not moon balls. Did you test more loft ? I’d have hit a 10.5 head in each too.

Good knowledge on that one. Miss and common area is slightly towards the toe and high, as you said. And I have had issues with Taylormade in that spot. Usually when I miss high toe its because I get a little stuck and hit it right with high spin (thats shot #4 with the SIM Max) The Mavrik was noticeably more hot in that area, but more importantly it was better, again as you said, with dispersion, look at shot #5 in the Mavrik data and see how much better it handled that miss than the SIM. I may sound crazy here but the 'twistface' on the TM woods has given me fits because that high toe miss causes me a push-slice and that opened toe accentuates that miss.

I don't hit moonballs, I just hit up on it quite a bit, and I would like a little more testing with more loft but usually I just start to get a lot of launch with a touch too much spin. Maybe a little different spin wise with these new models. I'm also chasing fairways these days, I dont want 14 launch with 1800 spin I just lose all control of that and the past few years i have chased distance with my driver fittings and really struggled on the course which has made my scores sky-rocket. But again, I dont know everything, maybe that accuracy would increase with a little more loft.

More testing probably necessary, I Haven't hit the Cobra or Mizuno woods yet either but for now I am certainly liking that Mavrik.

Yep. Knew it. Lol. And that’s a perfectly good choice for that miss.

Thwres a ping chart out on a Cameron champ fitting where they increased his launch and spin ( with loft ) on purpose and he gained quite a bit of carry this year. I’ll try to find it again and post. I’m seeing the exact same myself. Spin isn’t the killer itvwas once thought. Not if path is square and proper and launch is high enough. He saw huge jump in carry with no more clubhead speed , and also better control. Very interesting changes in my opinion. I’ll text my buddy and get him to send it to me.

I ordered the SIM with the Ventus Black 7x, and had them take the length down 1.75"

I'm happy with the club, it's everything they say it is and as impressive with the Ventus as that combo has been reported to be around here. However, the club is only an inch shorter than my Epic Flash SZ. The Callaway is supposed to be 45.5" stock, and the SIM is listed at 45.75", but it still looks to me like there's a half inch missing somewhere.

Maybe the Callaway stock is shorter than listed, or the SIM is longer? I'm not great with technical specs so I'm asking for an explanation here. It's not affecting my enjoyment of the club, but I want to know what's up.

I can get the total length of both when I get home, I only had time to measure the difference before I left for work this morning.

I have been researching a lot, is it something with the face technology that helps with the right and high toe miss? I dont know exactly.

And id love to see that video sounds super interesting with Cam Champ.
