Taylormade SIM Drivers

Inertia generator is definitely a dumb label.

Inertia - the tendency to do nothing or remain unchanged.

So an inertia generator would be something g that generates a tendency to do nothing...what?

Now, they could use the physics based definition of inertia: a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force

But then, is it a generator or a maximizer?

Sim is great driver, very solid, pretty forgiving and I love the feel, very distinctive sound and feel. Cant say that is is any longer than M5 or the Epic Flash SZ or Ping 410 or Cobra Speedzone or Callaway Mavrik. Each one of those drivers can be tuned with a certain shaft to achieve whatever numbers are optimal for your swing speed and swing style. Drivers are so good these days that it comes down to your preference on whether u like shallow or deep face and feel and sound. There really is no distance gains, you can gain a few yards by sacrificing forgiveness.

I didn't find the spin to be any lower than the M5, I found it a bit more forgiving but thats probably the new honeymoon period.

We are having a fitting day here at the club tomorrow. Leaning towards the SIM but will wait and see on head and shafts. One of our assistants is also a TM fitter so may get on TM this week and do some shaft fitting.

Can anyone confidently answer how much length gets added to the Regular SIM once the shaft is screwed in to the head?

shaft already includes the adapter. I’m just tightening it in to the head.

Just an FYI, I picked up a SIM in a trade and grabbed my Kuro Kage dual core shaft from my 2016 M2 and the shaft plays 1/4” shorter in the SIM. The face depth is also 1/4” more shallow which is where the difference probably comes from.

When I first saw that someone had mentioned me in this thread I thought, "what the h*ll did I say in that thing? lol". But then I saw how old it was. I had flown to San Diego and was having a casual round with one of my oldest golf buddies. The guy w/the SIM was someone he knew and I had never met/played with him before. So not sure if its complimentary or a jab myself. When he was on point and hitting greens that putter was hot. But he got inexplicably sideways a few times and since I had never played with him before IDK if that's his normal game or not.

It is impossible to tell as you don't know each other swing speeds and strikes. He could have been 5mph slower than you and still keeping it up with you. Or you being the slow one and keeping it up with him. The only moral I took from that is don't use a shaft to control launch and spin as it rarely ends well unless you know what you are doing and know which parts of the shaft you react best to when trying to influence dynamic loft.

I think I am the exception, not the rule. I have a few of UST shafts that I am comfortable with that I really like. I like to match the shaft I like to a head. I have tried everything other than the newest shafts and still prefer my UST Chrome Element and a couple of ATTAS protoypes(same profile). I am not sure what it is, why it is. Is it in my head? Maybe, but I know what I hit well.

Over the last two years the best with my shaft of choice was the Ping G400 MAX. obvious because of what the Tour shaft is.

This year I managed to test a few of the new drivers with my shaft and I am in the SIM. Did I loft up from the 400 MAX? Of Course I did, but I am getting a few more yards over the 400 MAX in carry and a few in roll as well. Nothing crazy, but now that it is dialed in over the last two rounds I have had no left misses. I have hit the driver 8 times, I missed two fairways (both bad bounces in the fairway), I made one semi bad swing and it still found the fairway. I am happy so far, but I had to layer lead tape across the back to get the feel, weight that I liked from my Ping. I am going to try a weight in the track t replace most if not all of the lead tape on the back.

I’m with you on the importance of finding the right shaft! I’m personally still on this quest as weight plays a large factor for me as does overall profile... most demo carts don’t have multiple 70 x options, so it’s been a slow process to find the right one!

my club pro is a Taylor made staffer, but I haven’t hit the sim yet... I’ll borrow one soon if he has gotten any shafts I’m interested in.
