B. Hossler - Made a name as an AM but has yet to shine as a pro.

K. Mitchell - (personal Fav) hope he has a good year.

F. Molinari - hope for a bit of a bounce back year.

R. Palmer - Not a big winner but could be a steady points guy.

K. Stanley - We will see.

TWs transition/tempo on driver had changed so much. I'm sure it's out of necessity and he's not as long but as long as it get's the job done and in the fairway...

Played a few weeks back and it is brutal right now if you are missing fairways. Its a lot of fun though because you realize how freaking good pros are. You go out there and struggle and then see the pros dominate the course on TV.

Yeah we got a lot of rain (for San Diego) in November/December.

The thing is, what people play prior to the tournament is not the same course as the pros will play this week.

They let the rough grow and grow and grow prior to the tournament. It got so bad that you wouldn't be able to find your ball just off the fairway in the rough, so the course told people to take a free drop in those cases.

I guess they wanted to just let it grow and then give it a fresh cut before the tournament to get it exactly how they want it.

So that's the irony I suppose -- the rough was actually much worse for the amateurs recently. But only because they were letting it grow out for tournament purposes.

The unofficial start of the new golf season. I did watch a bit of the coverage from Hawaii, but this is where it all begins really.

They're showing old Buick Invitational footage (the former sponsor for this tourney) on CBS Sports Network right now, and man, could Eldrick stripe the ball from difficult spots.

Was out there today at the pro-am. Saw Rickie, Spieth, Xander, Tony, Leishman, Wolff.

As usual, really impressive how these guys strike the ball.

I saw them all hit their drivers up close and they were absolutely mashed. Xander was especially impressive with his drive on 18 South. Just stepped up and piped it effortlessly.

Saw Wolff and Rickie hit long irons on the long par 3 #16. Into the wind, ~230 yards, and they are striping a long iron. The purity of the strike and the ball flight is on another level.

Pro surfer Courtney Conlogue was in Rickie's group. Rickie's tee with the driver is a lot lower than I would expect. You can see it in one of the photos. It's quite low. And he did it on multiple holes.

I caddied in a pro-am on Monday and the rough is considerably shorter that it was a couple weeks ago. Its still long and juicy but they do over grow it and cut it to length for the tournament. Even though it was shorter (4"-5") we lost a few balls in the rough and the am's struggled quite a bit . This was the North course but I'm sure the south would be the same.

Nick Faldo finally told a joke that made me laugh.

Tiger is paired today with Colliln Morikawa, who was born about six months after Tiger turned pro in 1996.

So as Faldo noted, they both said "Hello World!"

I would think you have to make hay on the NC as the SC is just that much harder. Those struggling on the NC will have be a bit behind the 8-ball when they play the SC tomorrow.

Morikawa has been very impressive...a rookie paired with Woods and Rahm, and all the crowds that go with that.

Poor Allie doesn't know her north from her south --- Cyndi Lauper sang "I want to go south and get me some more" and Allie thought she should be eating something (okay that isn't really coming out right).

I'm volunteering there on 13 North Wed~Friday. In Tiger's group today, he hit his drive in the fairway about 275 (into a slight breeze. Next was Morikawa about 283 and Rahm at 300. As usual there are police present for the biggest names like Tiger, Speith and Day. Curiously there was also one for Reed along with about a half dozen marshals for hecklers I guess.
