Early DL3 review

LOL, pretty refreshing!

He was bordering on anonymous to me on Sunday, but it turned into such a talkathon with the booth guys he didn't get much of a chance.

I think he'll get there - at least he wasn't obviously horrible ala Greg Norman on Fox a few years ago. Lots to learn.

DL3 is "exactly who we thought he was". For my taste Bones, is far and away the best listen- he strikes a balance between legit knowledge and annoying, irrelevant "schtiick". I am not looking for a dinner date - so consequently Davis is fine as an on-course reporter. Rocanteur he is not....

Welp, credit the man for self-awareness......to be fair, he was brutal. Not saying he has to be a song and dance man, and yes it was his first shot., but jeez.

Ok so DL3 by his own admission is slow to warm up. CBS never thought to ask or do any voice over trials with tape to see how he would do? They pay these decision makers how much money?

This...I liked Miller, after paying close attention Dottie may be my favorite now. Gives insight instead of just describing the obvious, gives a bit of interesting pro sauce lingo, and makes a call when a player messes up. That's really all I'm looking for instead of everyone telling me how great all the players are only to have the player royally mess up the next shot.

I like DL3 but his on air debut was not a success for all of the reasons cited above. If CBS did not have Jim Nantz and Dottie Pepper they would be the equivalent of the old ABC crew in golf broadcasting. NBC is the lead dog and it isn't currently close.

As Lance Barrow heads out the door this year, he gave us one last memory of his terrible golf production - Davis Love III. Davis is a good guy, but this job doesn't seem to be for him. I'll give him time, after all Notah improved a lot over the years, but I could see DL3 having a one and done career. Davis is just another example of everything wrong with CBS Golf and that Barrow has no clue what the intelligent golf viewer wants and deserves. It's one thing if DL3 seemed like a good choice and he just had to learn the TV ropes over time, but Davis never seemed like a good fit. He's always said wise, intelligent, even-handed things but he was never a high energy guy that seemed like a good TV fit.

Ouch, not a lot of love for Love in here. I think he has a real purty mouth.

Seriously, I just haven't noticed him that much so maybe he will be getting himself in the mix more - in the old days a Davis Love III and Perry Como interview at Pebble would have been scintillating.
