Sim drivers... still susceptible to Sky Marks...

Jeez, give the guy a break. I have done this as well and am a steep swinger. Maybe try teeing it lower until you shallow your delivery some. I have idiot marks on my Taylormade fairway and agree it would be nice if they didn't leave a mark. The flat painted clubs seem to be more resilient.

jeez. it’s not exactly the top of the club, it’s the top of the face, at the interface with the paint on top. I buy my clubs used and almost all the woods have these marks. The TaylorMade grey on my driver does seem to Show the marks more/looks uglier, compared to even my black Pings. I think it’s a fair question.

Exactly... Taylor Made drivers at least in the past show much more wear and tear than Ping, Cobra and Callaway...

I hit a lot of my driver shots a bit high, I don't like the low miss and have found slightly above center to be the hot spot. With that being said, I tinker quite a bit with equipment and shafts and shaft lengths, high marks will happen due to, one too many beers, one too many swing changes, one too many club changes, weather, slipping or swaying. im surprised that most waxers have not experienced a high mark before, I certainly have and yes TM seems to paint their top line a bit lower than other manufacturers and their durability isn't as strong as a Ping driver would be. Im not talking about marks on the crown, just marks high on the face that catch the edge of the paint where it meets the face. I consider them pop up marks.

Seriously - take the $500 and spend them on lessons instead of a new driver. Then, you'll get rid of whatever swing flaw creates your sky marks and have a better swing to get fit with for a new driver.

I'm sorry if I offend, but this is dumb. You call it bad quality because paint on a part that was not meant to be hit chips off when you hit it?!. How about not teeing it so high or not hitting it like a wedge.

Maligning TM's (or any of the OEM's) overall "quality" based on something as specific (and unquantifiable) as its purely-aesthetic paint's resistance to very errant strikes is NOT fair.

you’re entitled to feel however you do about the TM drivers but we aren’t “maligning” them. I think it’s a fair critique of the design, which in our opinion wears more heavily than other brands. This evaluation/comparison is something club reviewers do all the time. If you never ever hit off the top of the face, then feel free to use whatever design works for you. It doesn’t mean anybody needs lessons. For example, when I’m buying used clubs, this info is very helpful.

Sounds like you hit down with the driver a bit. Try teeing the ball a little lower you catch it in the middle.

I’m living proof unfortunately that it’s very possible to put a sky mark on a Callaway driver. Doesn’t change my opinion about the quality of Callaway. I’m working on not being steep with the driver so hopefully I don’t sky any more tee shots.

Don't you realize unless you have a swing speed of 100+mph, and the latest x flex shaft in your driver and carry the ball 270 plus yards you can not ask such a question. You must remember this forum is for the best golfers not presently on the tour and they find great joy in mere mortals who struggle with the game.

Even the best players in the world hit high on the face and a occasional hosel rocket as well.....I understand if you tee it low, that will never happen. But if u do tend to tee it high and catch one high on the face...........then durability of finish can become a issue. Another issue about thin or weak paint is that you have a tiny bit of sand in your head cover due to a lazy caddie and it scratches the bejesus out of your shiny driver.

I can validate that a Scotty Cameron puter still scratches if you throw it down the cart path ;) But, in keeping with the commoners, I did put an idiot mark on an M1 3W once. first swing on the range...oof.

Many moons ago, I did just this......

go to the automotive store and get some pin stripping in the color you want. I used black to match the head. It will help protect the head. Simply run a strip where the face and crown meet.

l also recommend a product called Liquid Glass. I treat all my woods/hybrids prior to putting them in play.
