Is Taylormade replacing the P760 anytime soon?

Recommended Posts

That’s music to my ears a 770 replacement. I can’t wait to see these! It’s going to these or the new Srixon.

To me, the lines of MB/MC/CB of irons were arguably the best TM has done. Had a combo set of the CB and MC and loved them, so clearly very excited to see the news and pumped to see them

Those MBs look perfect. Everything sounds great on the new line especially for combo sets/options. A mini non-foam P790 would be a slick look as well for a players iron.

Performance wise the irons will perform pretty similar to any other comparable lofted iron. I had my 31 degree p760 6 iron and tested it against the MC. Saw a couple yards longer carry which I’m assuming is due to a difference in loft.

Feel and Sound were awesome from the 7 shots I hit. Definitely softer and closer to the feel of the 730 than 760. Definitely preferred them to my 6 iron (I have both a 730 and 760 sets).

Looks I think will be received better than the 760 did at release. The person who I hit them with did have some lead tape on them so a portion of the cavity was slightly covered up but I feel like they took a giant step in the right direction from the last MC model that was brought out.

If I had the extra money and needed a new set I would get these. If you’re coming from the 760, it will be based on aesthetics and feel, as for me the numbers on trackman weren’t enough to get to switch.

Edit: The only other club I saw was the P7MB, but didn’t get to hit it. I think anyone looking to combo them will be happy.

Design wise, I’d say it’s in line with the MB range, blending them shouldn’t be an issue. What wasn’t covered up, didn’t have obnoxious badges or grill lines like the P760. Branding appeared to be fairly inline with what you can see on the P7MB/The most recent P790.

In terms of what irons do I think it looks like, my mind kept going back to the 2014 MC but with a much cleaner and updated look.

I got to hit them back in early May so some small tweaks may have been made but the P7MB I saw matched nearly what has been leaked.

Yeah I think it will be a good club for them. I’m interested to see the rest of the line up.

The gentleman that had the MB and MC is fairly well connected in the golf fitness industry and has worked with some major winners in the past. He had an extensive collection of clubs that were insane to see, had a few of Palmers drivers, a set of irons that Nicklaus used, 2 putters built by Scotty for Rory after Nike folded, and a set of Rickies back up AMP irons.

Please TM, please keep the look clean. NO grill marks, NO unnecessary badging, NO busy looks.

A clean, sleek golf club is a thing of beauty. You have all the tech and knowhow, the clubs do really perform, but then some guy starts doodling on the looks, adds badges and lines, and does not know when to stop... Stop that guy!

... There is no That Guy in a vacuum designing badges, colors and bling. All the OEMs have focus groups and do exhaustive research into design when it comes to their clubs. Then you have the Marketing Dept that wants their irons to look recognizable and the P760's did just that. Impossible to see them in someones bag or just swinging one and not know it is a P760. I am reminded of Bridgestone releasing what I, and many forum members thought was one of the best looking CB's of all time with the J33cb. And if you removed the paint fill, they were about as clean as it gets. Feedback from retailers was "No Shelf Appeal, just drab looking irons that don't sell" So Bridgestone responded with the J36 with some flashy graphics in Black & Blue and a shinier frosting in the cavity with a bolder B badge. Feedback from retailers was "Frosting is too shiny, and Black & Blue is a bad color choice for irons that don't sell." At that time Bridgestone said screw this and designed what they thought were the best looking clubs to appeal to their target audience.

... I would think OEM's could go back and forth with alternate editions and agree with most on this thread, this new offering should be the cleanest they have designed and it sounds like they are leaning in that direction. But I bought my P760's because of performance and how they looked at address, and while I would love a cleaner look, I obviously don't see the tiger stripes when playing and that is all that counts. The rest is just icing on the cake. I am not in the market for a P760 replacement iron BUT if they narrow the topline and improve performance with a much cleaner look, I will certainly be tempted.

Friend was going away for a month so he left me his P760 bag so I could try them out a little. I’m currently gaming Ping i500’s so I’m fired up to try the TM’s. What happens when I like them more then the Pings? Do o give them back or just keep them. “Sorry pal, had someone steal the whole set! They left your putter though.”
