You seemed to be confusing most well known with most popular, without considering other sports which are much more popular world wide than golf. Regarding your remark about my comment, funny, I was thinking the same thing about your classy clubs for real players statement.

Anyway, got off your original topic so I’ll give you the last word.

Most of the points have already been made, but i'll add that Tiger is likely fairly business savvy and seems to err towards being more miserly with his money. So if we look at these factors:

1) The history of golf legends getting in to the equipment business is fairly cautionary right out of the gate. Not a great track record.

2) As has been said, hard goods is low margin.

3) Tour presence drives a lot of the market, so now you're having to pay big endorsement money as we

4) Tiger is a pretty staunch traditionalist when it comes to equipment, I doubt he has any grand vision for the types of clubs that would be necessary to compete in the market.

So if Tiger does anything with equipment, it will be limited run, boutique collectors stuff likely made by someone else, like P7TW's or maybe something with Artisan for wedges.

You overestimate the effect players have on hard good sales. The reality is they rarely have ANY effect at all. They sell shirts and shoes, not clubs. I DO think an exception is that Tiger was a big part of people buying the first blue nike driver, and it was terrible and they never did that again :)

Why buy a club just because someone plays it or it has thier name on it?

Buy what looks good to your game, skill level and budget!

Tiger will not be the manufacturer or the primary designer. What works for him probably won't work for others.

But anyway his woods should be called Tigers Woods. And his hybrids should be called Tiger for the Woods.

I would suggest that Tiger is much more interested in designing golf courses than actually designing golf equipment.

He's more in the mold of Phil Mickelson. Phil talks about what he wants to the Callaway guys and let's them handle the hardware part of it. Phil especially talks to Roger Cleveland on wedges.

We have a friend (good friend of my wife’s) who knows him VERY well, not intimately but work type. They have worked together for over 20 years and we talked about this a while ago. I wouldn’t expect it, he will allow someone to use his name and likeness but it wouldn’t be his company.

She has said that as he gets older he values his time as much as anything and starting a club business is not where he wants to spend his time. He also has started thinking about his legacy and things like the TGR foundation and TGR Design are strengthening his legacy.
