Me too! I like to keep my clubs looking new for years. Rust, dirt, etc. Not my cup of tea.

But I respect those that like that rust look. Free country, brother!

Er.........All irons are raw. Raw comes first. Who ever thought it was a good idea to cover them in chrome..! Chrome is the 'makeup' equivalent for irons.

I don't use jimmy's. Thems for hippies and sailors. Raw dog all the way. Feels better. Just like raw irons. Raw irons are easier to work on.

My DW’s. Both are raw but one with Patina. Raw for feel, feedback and distance control. The irons go the exact same distance every single time.

I have a raw wedge. It was a lot of work keeping it clean.

Not removing the patina, but keeping the excess rust from getting all over my bag. It was messy and sloppy. I started keeping an iron cover on it.

There is a utilitarian charm to rusty clubs I think. Wedges often see the worst/weirdest lies that require more creative swings and get beat up the most because of it. When you subject that kind of torture to chrome it just starts to look....crappy. I think psychologically it feels more "right" to be taking up chunks of earth with something tough and rusty looking over something chromed and shiny. Imagine the scoop on an old tractor being all shiny and chrome plated! ?

In a bag full of clubs that some people often worry about getting scratched or dinged and that we protect with all manner of head cover, the rusty wedge stands proud and unfazed, thriving on abuse and neglect. ?

I’m not a huge raw golf club guy buy my garden tools have a nice patina. Also, If given the option, I enjoy horsing around without a rubber on. But yea, there’s not too many other tools that are better of just equivalent with a layer of rust, it doesn’t mean that it’s an invalid pursuit on the golf course. I mean, what the heck are we doing anyways as golfers? Walking outside for four hours with a portable toolbox of steel sticks, trying to whack a little ball into a hole in the ground... If you enjoy that, but are criticizing people’s preferences, look in the mirror.

Raw wedges have an appeal to me, however I know with my game, or lack there of, that it is definitely just an aesthetic thing for confidence and not an actual performance benefit. The milled grind2 that I have as a lob wedge seems to be the perfect compromise to me. The rusty face gives me confidence that the ball will bite and makes me feel like a player when I look down at address. And that confidence matters, even if the actual performance is the same. As for irons I haven’t thought about them. I’m not sure I would want my entire bag to look quite that “rustic”

What's the best way to remove chrome then. The old Lynx tour blades might have to get the treatment. They're covered in lead anyway at the moment.

Might see if there's someone in the uk that will sort them for me. I've already got a Jaws 52 and Mack Daddy 60 that are rusted. The jaws looks so bad to the bone, you'd think it had been in a waste skip by the sea.

Question for you guys about grooves. Do they mill the grooves differently in raw wedges? I ask this because if they are exactly the same but then chrome plated wouldn't the groove depth and width decrease as the chrome is added on? If they are in fact larger and deeper on raw wedges how does that change performance?
