I changed the loft on my Epic to +1 from the standard S. It seems the ball flight is lower and I probably gained an average of 10-20 yards. 

How does raising the loft do this. Shouldn't it raise ball flight ?

likely changed your face angle and maybe now you have a lower AOA? just my guess

Loft adjustments on an adjustable driver are reliant on you delivering the club back to square in order to actually present the "adjusted" loft. Raising loft also closes the face slightly, and for some people this can change their delivery in reaction to how the club sits at address. It sounds like this has maybe caused you to deliver less loft at impact. 

Either that or you have an opposite handed adaptor and you actually decreased your loft. ?

Well i decreased my loft from 10 to 8 degrees and its doing its correct job lol

If you gained 10 to 20 yards, I wouldn't why about why.  Those adjustments don't work for me. Maybe the first couple of shots.  After that it's all the same. Guess my brain overrides any adjustments or changes in loft of face angle.

I’ve read here a couple of times you should try all the adapter settings because they might surprise you...

 

have you been on a launch monitor at all with the driver? Maybe you are getting less spin, so it has a flatter peak and better roll out? 
 

maybe your angle of attack is better? 
 

hard to know the exact reason without getting hard data from a launch monitor.

Sounds like your face angle was hindering your performance. TO ME it sounds like maybe your face was open at impact, causing distance loss. You “fixed” this by slightly closing your face by lofting up. Imo

Likely the change in face angle resulted in a better face impact location.    Face impact location is the #1 factor in determining both launch and spin.

It is important to remember that not only are you talking about a "loft" adjustment that only happens IF you deliver the club to the ball a certain way, but that even then you are talking about ONE degree, which is about 20% of the difference between your 8 and 9 irons. 

 

I'm a firm believer that the loft adjustment thing is marketing based on consumer sort of understanding the term "loft", if not how it works with an adjustable club.  The face angle change is a much bigger deal, but doesn't sell clubs, so it isn't talked about.  But if opening, or in your case, closing the clubface by a degree takes one side of the course more or less out of play, then perhaps you make a better swing with a fuller release, and you maybe you pick up distance in the process.  At least, that's the way it works for me; I play my driver in a slightly closed setting to take the right side as much out of play as I can.  And by doing that, I can feel a bit more confident and swing accordingly.

 

I've done multiple driver fittings with some REALLY good fitters since adjustable clubs became available, and the adjustments the fitters have made have ONLY been about dispersion at the end of the process; never about changing launch angle and trajectory.  I've sort of figured that they understand what's really going on with adjustable clubs.

I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Those added yards might just disappear. 

 

Could be you weren't getting enough spin to keep the ball in the air with the original setting.
