Adams Tightlies is back!

Recommended Posts

I don't see it posted anywhere but I had TGC on in the background and had to stop what I was doing to check it out.

It looks like they're going back to their roots and just making fairway woods in a couple different lofts.

I did see that TM recently trademarked Adams and Yes! so maybe we'll start seeing Yes! putters on infomercials next.

True to their roots, the Adams website is straight out of an infomercial as well.

I loved my tight lie 3ish wood. I got it in '97 or so and could drive with it. It really hit well off the deck, but I drove with it more than anything.

Since they're bringing those back, they might as well go all the way and give us the Faldo driver, too.

Since TM utilized the latest Adams patents in their own equipment, I guess they figured the best way to revive the Adams brand was to use the ancient design technology to appeal to a new generation that never knew it.

They were good affordable clubs that could do anything the big name clubs could do, and better, and probably still could.

Thy had to die, so the titanium hybrid could live.

They were good clubs IF the stock shaft worked for you as they were embarrassingly limited on custom options.  They also increased prices to a pathetic level in the end and no one in their right mind was going to pay full retail for that  GT had trouble moving product even when it was like 60%+ off.  Reality is they were more boutique than could compete with the big boys.  Never really had good wedges, let alone lofts and grind options.

One of my equipment what-ifs is what if Tom Watson wins the 2009 British with his 13 club Adams bag? Suddenly Adams can market as "The clubs that let Watson keep up with the big boys, they'll help you do it too" as the equipment brand that provided one of the greatest wins in the history of the sport, of maybe sport in general.

Maybe Adams is still alive today?

so bummed that TM destroyed Adams golf, makes me so sad.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve played golf with Barney and he’s perfectly happy.

Adams were so far ahead of the R&D curve that TM said screw it,.....we'll steal it and see you in court.

My 2014 XTD Forged irons are 5 years ahead of what the big 3 had. Hollow, foam filled through the 7, blades the rest of the way.

Titanium fairway woods and hybrids.

Finally received an offer they couldn't refuse.

These and the Orlimar Trimetal commercials had me hook line and sinker way back 20 years ago. Those and the wedges that the guy hit into or out of (can't remember) a flatbed truck.

It was hit off the bed of a flatbed... my aunts ex husband was a 90s infomercial director... she was featured in one of his wedge ads!

They were basically dead long before that actually happened...

I respectfully disagree.  Taylor Made introduced the "speed slot" on the sole of their woods I believe in the Rockballz series.  Adams had introduced and patented the "speed slot" in the soles and crowns of their clubs one year earlier.  To avoid sure litigation Taylor Made bought them out.  Chip Brewer, Adams CEO at the time moved on to Callaway and remains the current CEO.  Adams was gaining a lot of momentum under Brewer and had a lot of good people thinking outside the box.  Adams hybrids were very popular on the PGA tour and they seemed to be coming out with a  lot of interesting product such as the Super XTD titanium hybrids and fairway woods.  Keep in mind when Brewer went to Callaway they were in trouble too and now they are one of the leaders in golf equipment tech.  Chip Brewer has proven to be a solid man in front.

They didn't sell, period.  They hit a price point that people didn't want to touch given the lack of custom options and less sex appeal.

Don't get me wrong, I have a bunch of Adams gear, some Tour issue some retail, and its all solid, but they weren't moving the needle at all at the retail level.

Adams didn't use "made for" shafts, strictly premium components. BTW, anybody remember how this model changed driver  R & D?

They released that driver with basically a 1 shaft fits all retail launch...

I have 2 of those heads, still doesn't change anything that has been said...
