I just don't get this argument at all.

 

People are annoyed or upset that the uncharge is $45 for Raw, and others start bringing up supply and demand and economics. 

 

Here is my take: 

1) They can charge whatever the hell they want.  They can charge $500 for all I care.  I'm not going to pay $45 upcharge on principle.  It doesn't make me cheap and it doesn't make me someone who doesn't understand economics.

2) There is NO WAY the wedge costs $45 more to make.  Someone give me a rational reason it does.  If this "limited production" thing were true, then every other manufacturer who doesn't charge more (Mizuno) or charges $10 more is getting hosed when we buy raw wedges.  They do not have a finish and it costs more?  How?  The limited production thing is bogus.  It's not like each one is made by hand, or each finish is stripped individually.  They are still making thousands of them.  And I disagree.  If the price were the same, they'd sell just as many raws as any other finish.  Probably more.

 

 

So in summary, of course I believe its a money grab.  But just like any other company, they are entitled to price their product how they want to.  Everyone is entitled to grab money. That's capitalism.  I'm also entitled not to give my money to them.

I really don't expect them to drop the price on SM8. Already a discounted price compared to SM9. Thinking about getting a second set of SM8's since I don't see the SM9 as an improvement. How long will you be able to custom order SM8? Will SM8 get phased out as soon as SM9 has their full retail release in March?

Would love to experiment with the flight lines just not sure if they are worth it at that price. But it’s very interesting idea. Would love to hear feedback from people who got them.

Hahaha I was trying to steer this thread away from price but first post it went right back. Lol. 
for $25 I think it’s worth it for something that can be used on every shot with that wedge.

Honestly Those lines are what have me interested in these. I was going to go with MD5 but now this has me rethinking it. I feel like the 60 would be the most beneficial club to have those lines but curious if anyone is thinking of getting them on a 54/56.

Yeah I only ordered it on my 60. Generally I use my 60 around the greens and in bunkers. And bunker shots with my 56 are for longer shots with more of a square face so the line likely would work for me on that one anyways.

I ordered mine on release date of Feb 17th and was given a March 11th ship date. We will see if that holds.

I really wanted to jump to trying raw SM9's until I saw the price... so I took my OG black TM milled grinds and stripped the black finish using white vinegar and 600/1200 grit sandpaper to finish. Honestly they look every bit as raw as my old raw SM4's, in fact they look better. I lightly went over the grooves with a groove sharpener and after 5 weeks of no golf, took them out yesterday and they were playing and spinning as if brand new. For anyone wanting to go down the raw route I suggest doing this with a black wedge, you  will save yourself a fortune! You could even pick up some half decent used black SM8's and do this if sticking with a Vokey.

Of course it’s a money grab.  It’s one step shorter process and they charge more money.  The only reason they aren’t popular in stores is that ignorant people won’t buy a wedge if it has a little rust on it on the rack.

Well their raw pricing was helpful to me in that it convinced me to just get the Taylormade MG3 wedges with a raw face. Was going to go 54-10 and 58-8 in Vokeys, instead just went 54-11 and 58-8 in MG3. Will put them up against my Tour Rack Zipcores.

I don’t really know why or how these things work, but I ordered raw SM9s through Golfdom and not wedgeworks. No customization options, just the stock S200 shaft. They were only $199, though, and shortly after the price went up to $225 like I saw everywhere else. I emailed them a week later to feel them out, and they told me they ship straight from the manufacturer and the estimated date was looking like April 8. Still wondering why they were only $199 on Golfdom, but $225 through Wedgeworks. Sounds like they ship from there anyway. As long as I get my 3 wedges raw and for $199 each I’ll be a happy dude.

When I ordered my raw SM9’s in February, they were very upfront and said that the raw wedges will first start shipping in April. Don’t mind waiting a few extra weeks as I’d rather have my SM8’s get beat up by the rough early spring conditions and rock hard range balls.

I was fitted by Titleist a couple of years ago for my four SM7s and love them.  Time to update all four, any reason to get fitted or demo or just go ahead and order the Sm9s? How much of a discount would be required to only go to SM8s?

Wouldn't hurt to go to galaxy and see how you like them first. No need to get fitted

I may have missed this, but any noticeable difference in feel for sm8 vs sm9? 

Also for those that have tried the brushed steel finish, how does it hold up durability wise?

SM9 feels a little more solid than SM8. The thicker flange on the sand a lob helps give it a little more feel behind the ball. I also find the SM9 to look a little more compact than SM8. I equate it to the difference between the MP20 and Mizuno Pro 221. A little smaller, a little more solid feel, slightly lower flight. Very small but good changes. 
 

Brushed steel finish holds up very well. I like it a lot. Will not wear like the jet black.

very helpful response! Always had chrome wedges and irons, can't do black irons or wedges but I kinda like that brushed steel.
