Products of their generation. Typically, driving it long equals driving it well.

It has pretty much always been that way.  However, today a larger percentage of players realize and use that strategy to their benefit.  It used to be mitigated somewhat by the poorer equipment/balls available making it a bigger advantage in today's game.

Please don’t. It drives me absolutely nuts to read “Shinny”, Bruce, YJS, or the like on here...it’s absolutely irrationally how much that spikes my already high blood pressure. I think if I ever saw, “ The Mont” I would go scorched earth on everything.

PM me. We'll meet up and have a Grandpa Simpson/Quaalude session.

I heard Bryson yesterday muttering after a poor drive about his driver, "This thing is so sensitive".

Well, duh, when you swing it like he does. Can't imagine how he would have felt playing persimmon and balata.

I don’t think he would have been able to play the game. Imagine how much time he would have had to waste dipping his balls in salt or whatever it is he does only to release that the chances of getting a perfect balata ball are all but non-existent 😂

I saw that a sprinkler head was in his line.. that’s not cause for a free drop, is it? Never saw him take his stance and have the sprinkler head impede his footing.

Just went back and re-watched. Carney said "It looks like there is a sprinkler head 'kinda' in his line."

I am assuming the worst, because these guys don’t play by the rules sometimes, and the rules officials on site are, at times, complicit.

Schauffele wanted to putt, but the sprinkler head was in his line so he ordered a free drop from a rules official like I order a Salty Dog from a bartender.

Such a strange report, right? Carney is there following the group I assume. Is he restricted to where he can walk? And “kinda”.. Wouldn’t matter.. Tell me if I’m wrong, I’m honestly not a rules expert, but you don’t get a free drop when an object is IN YOUR LINE..(?)

I believe all the tours employ a local rule for sprinkler heads around the green in the line of play.  Something like if you are within 1 club length and in your line you get relief.  It has been mentioned a few times in other threads over the years.

That explanation would completely apply in this case. Thank you! Never heard of it.. Is this for all sprinkler heads throughout the course? And can I play by this rule as well?

I haven’t, but I’m sure people will chime in here.. they’re very difficult. Small targets, subtle and extreme slopes. They firm up. And they can pinball on five footers. Been to the LA Open almost every year for 35 years.

I think it applies to greenside only, but could be wrong on this. Local rule for tour use only.  Don't expect such leniency from the USGA.

Absolutely no one....I mean absolutely no one...... "let's replace Bryson and Rory as a featured group on PGA tour live with YJS and Kuch"   🤮

Funny, I can completely understand switching from that MCthreesome to another group.

Guess I have a soft spot for the two longest guys on tour having a "measuring contest" on each hole and seeing how Rory's iron play works out with the X7's. Both are laying an egg and likely won't make the cut so maybe switching to the two plodders was the move.

Hard to have much of a measuring contest when they are playing pachinko in the trees all day.

It remains one of the great perplexities in life that there is a golf tournament being played at one of the premier courses in the world with some of the top players in the world already out on the course and it has to be streamed. For all the talk from golf people about "expanding the game," they don't do themselves any favor with their tv coverage

Rory having a poop fest this week.

Couldn't agree more. None of my buddies who are casual fans at BEST, even know that they stream the early coverage on Nbc Sports
