2021 ANA Inspiration (Apr 01 - 04)

A real mixed bag for the "rookies". Patty, Yui, and Leona having good weeks. Albane, A Lim, Jennifer C, Bianca, Yealimi, and Andrea all missed the cut. 

 

Looks like Cristie took a lesson from me on how to skip a poorly struck fairway wood across a pond. I call it my 'He-Who-Walks-On-Water' shot. Lol.

 

Real up and down day for In Gee. 'Bummed that she missed the cut after last week's DQ.

The commentators got very excited a few weeks back when Lydia and Jin Young were together atop a leader board. They got the chance to wheel out the "Ko-leaders" phrase. I wonder if we might get a "2-way Thai" at some point this week.

I don't think so, the Masters used one a few years back if I remember correctly but the ladies game doesn't use them (anymore?) as far as I know.  I guess the ladies don't need their hands held around the course lol.  In today's game using a maker is a major disservice to the player.  I understand the marker would have some pedigree but you're basically taking someone off the street to play a pro set up.  If the marker goes out there and hacks it around for 18 holes, tough for the player to have to play along side that.

Jeff Knox at ANGC is a stick.  He has played comparably to the pros he has marked for most of the time.  Mostly markers are there to help POP.  If knowledgeable, they stay out of the pros way and pick up when they are making a mess on a hole.  I would do it in a heartbeat at the ANA.

About a 3 hour for Jessica, good pace for sure lol.  She slowed down on the back 9 but she had a great round (till the end) going so understandable.

Course seems to score easier today; thirty-nine players are collectedly thirty-one under par thus far.

 

This will put pressure for players at the top of the leaderboard.  Competitors will be either much closer or tied with them when they tee off.

Stacy now 8 under thru 13 holes today. Now T3 at -7 and only 2 back. But she will get finish her round before the leaders tee off. Started the day in 59th place.

Brooke Henderson had an untimely bogey at par 4 #12.  And you've guessed right, it's a 3-putt bogey.

 

On a day every player is speeding at 200 mph, any bogey is like hitting a speed bump the size of Empire State Building.  But, hope Brooke will accelerate back to 200 mph again.!

From what I've seen the last few days, unless the tees are moved up on 18 to the point where it's a par 4, an "island" green par 5 designed to play the way this one is designed is kind of silly, IMO.  Seems like gimmick overruled common sense.

Yeah 18/18 in greens in reg with a bogey is never a good look, solid round though but Brooke was done after round 1

I know Bianca Pagdanagnan got a bit of attention last fall for her length but her game just wasn’t well rounded. Patty T on the other hand, I stan her unconditionally.

Yeah Patty is just a rock solid player. She's lagged everything close. On the 2 occasions where she's needed to make a big par putt, she's poured it in. This is an awesome display.

I switched on the telecast in the middle of an interview with Ally Ewing just where they asked her about the start of her day and a rushed warmup. Her response was that she didn’t want to talk about what happened and why. Can someone fill me in?
