Scoring so far is better than I expected. A number of players are tied at -3 with roughly half a round played. The back nine does seem to play a shot or two harder, though.

Of the 72 morning wave, twenty-three are under par and thirty are over par after three hours.  The cut will be either even or +1, this is a more classical tournament.

It's gotta be tough being Yani Tseng these days, every time I look at the leaderboard she near last place and usually before she's even played 9 holes.

Sad to think that your best option is to keep playing golf when you can’t compete.  And it’s not just a short term slump.  According to her profile:

2020 - didn’t play

2019 - 5 events - no cuts

2018 - 20 events, 8 cuts, bestT27

2017 - 25 events, 10 cuts, best T11

Course is pretty straight forward, you can get some  tricky putts but generally get your ball out of position and you can find one of those "other" very easily.  I think you try and average 68 or litter for the week and you'll be there with a chance  15 - 16 under would probably be a great score, lots of birdies but everyone seems to get dinged up with bogeys over 4 rounds

Has there been any reason given for the course looking so rough?  Even some of the green surrounds still look aerated. Spring is usually when most CA courses look their best, they’ve had some water, lots of sunshine and summer hasn’t baked them out, yet, but this doesn’t look good.

Driver: TaylorMade Sim2 Max - 10.5*
Fairway: Callaway Epic Max - 15*, 21*, 25*

Hybrid:  Ping G425 30*
Irons: TaylorMade Stealth 7-AW
Wedges: PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II 56*

PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II 62*
Putter:  Directed Force 2.1
Ball:  Callaway Chrome Soft

They haven't said anything. Is it possible they cut back on the water while firming it up, and it got away from them?

Isn't Los Angeles County still in a severe drought? Are water restrictions still in place?

A Su sighting. Definitely seeing some different names this week.

Scoring opportunities abound, but so do the bogie opportunities. Gotta stay out of those fairway bunkers.

A 14 shot difference between Jess and Lydia? Sure didn't see that coming.

Solid rounds by the leaders. They mentioned that they had to throw some water on the greens due to high temps this week, and that softened them up. 'Not sure how much they're going to dry out over the next three rounds, so we could be looking at another tournament scoring record. Minjee's -14 score doesn't look like it'll hold for long.

Yani was DQ'd. Oy.

Jenny Shin withdrew. She had a really good finish last week. Curious why.

Any chance Lydia shoots 62 tomorrow to make the cut? Actually, I have a theory that Lydia was reading the 'Can a 4 Cap Beat Lydia Ko' thread on the flight from Hawaii, and decided to lure the 4 cappers into a trap. Post an awful round, set up some bets, and then clean house.

Moriya deserves a shout out. She was four over after five holes, and then proceeded to birdie six in a row, and four of her final six holes, including the final three. Ten under for 13 holes ain't too shabby.

I took a quick glance at Getty Images this morning for tournament photos, and zilch. Did someone in the LPGA media center forget to tell the media that the tournament started on a Wednesday? Seriously, a golf tournament held in the media crazed LA area and not a single pic?

its more likely she read the thread and realized there is no way she is as good as a 4hc and got depressed. Proceeded to put up a typical 4hc score.

Jenny WD is weird, she must have truly injured herself cause she was -2 or -3 early in the round, I noticed.  Either she fell apart or probably pulled something.  Yani DQ not surprising, probably similar to Ingee but don't think you can say it's not signing a scorecard, when you drop your last putt on 18 and say "screw this" than walk directly to your car lol

I still say the leaders will run into some bogey over the next 3 rounds, this place can bite you if your not paying attention to every shot and strike good shots, although Moriya had her bad bogey run but did it with 10 birdies on the card, so maybe she'll sail the rest of the way.  Lydia will be fine, there usually always a mental let down after a win, evidence by the fact we rarely see back to back winners on the tour.  Oh Brooke, was pleased with her round even tough she wasn't really scoring out there, she could have potentially ended the round with 29 putts (something she rarely does recently) but no back to her old tricks and ending with a 3-putt bogey lol

The one thing I noticed is that there's no rough, there's not much danger missing the fairway unless you hit a bunker (ask Lydia) or end up behind a tree or have a bad angle.  I hope this due to other factors and not by design

Lydia playing like a 4 capper. Lol. I blame the new caddie. 😆

Jason will be fired for the 4th time off Lydia's bag after her trunk slam today...but Tina will get Sura to do her dirty work.

Tina will ask IMG to secure a 16 year old loop from the caddie shacks at Sentosa and Siam.

Let's hope they know better than to agree to $5000 for a winning bag.

Jessica continues to roll with four birdies in her first eight holes (back nine start). Didn't she get the memo that the course is hard?

Lydia is -2, and needs five more birdies to make the cut. I think she can do it.
