Is this bag ok for Bandon?

Recommended Posts

Going to Bandon this summer, 4 days, many rounds, with caddies.

will they shun my current OGIO hybrid stand bag?  It’s not that heavy but last time I had a caddy he pulled all my s*** out and put it in a lighter bag.

I know to empty out as much as possible before round.

bag is similar to photo

thanks

Use the bag you already have, just leave out all the stuff you don't need to carry such as food and drinks.  Since you will have a caddy, leave the laser-finder behind, it is just going to be added weight.

Also, you don't need to carry 8 pairs of socks, 5 water-proof jackets and pants, and 3 pairs of shoes in the bag either just because you are at Bandon.

Yes, I empty it out before a caddy round.

The caddy who swapped it out said OGIO stands for “oh god, it’s overweight”

That's a good one.

OGIO do tend to be on the heavy side.

It's amazing how much difference a pound makes. I just got a new bag (Titleist StaDry) and it's a just over a pound lighter than the bag it replaced (3.8 lbs) and I've definitely noticed how much lighter it is over the course of a round.

That’s what I’m looking at VS stitch SL2

I'd say that fits firmly in "cart bag" territory.

I'm going to say it depends on the caddie.

I have a Jones carry and a caddie told me told me a few weeks ago (here in TX) that he was used to stand bags, it was an adjustment for him.

Carry bags are definitely popular at Bandon, but stands are too. As long as you don't pack it with multiple rain suits, a dozen balls, an umbrella (which are pretty worthless at Bandon), etc. you should be OK. I would consider not taking a full set either, knowing Bandon and that there will be absolutely no reason to take more than 2 wedges with you.

EDIT: if you walk courses regularly, it might benefit you to invest in a carry. I love my Jones and have a Mac on the way. Been slowly moving away from my stand bag.

Asa former caddie, we avoided all Ogio, Callaway (most were Ogios), and many of the Taylormade bags (straps aren't great).  Swapped them out for Hoofers, Hoofer lites, some of the lighter Titleist bags, etc.

I played Bandon with a friend recently and his bag had all kinds of stuff in it.... The caddie refused to carry it unless he cleaned it out.  Glad to see this post, its almost rude to not make sure beforehand.

This thread reminds me of the time a buddy and I went to Pinehurst.

The caddie picked up my buddies bag and gave a WTF is going on here comment. He emptied out what must have been 5 dozen golf balls plus assorted other junk.

yes, I know they are ready. My question is who provides the bags? Does the club just have 50 hoofer lites hanging around or does each looper have a couple in a locker or something?

Club owns the bags. I am not sure the model now days.

I'm surprised they wouldn't carry that....I wouldn't have even thought of this to be honest. My every day bag is an Ogio like that and i carry it 70 rounds a year or so. I find it easier than pushing a cart.

I understand if you're packing it with all sorts of crap....But a 6lb~ just with clubs and balls, i'd be kinda shocked if someone refused to carry that

I suspect it would be more about the design of the bag/straps if they did pass on that bag. But I agree not sure they would, I have seen lug around worse than that.

They are often double bagging, so carrying extra pounds adds up.

Same, I had a friend who never walks and isn't used to playing with a caddie, has a massive cart bag that is stuffed with everything you can imagine...he was so upset when they started pulling out his clubs and putting them in a carry bag...

Are caddies that coddled these days. I remember carrying a leather burton bag on one shoulder and ping nylon on the other. Yes it sucked, but I wasn’t being paid for comfort. And emptying a members bag wasn’t even a thought.

Don't you know caddies are a " thing " now like chefs and tattoo artists

They do their thing which is maybe not your thing

if i caddie is carrying one bag, anything with 2 straps he better not be emptying....Like i said a 6lb Ogio carry bag that's just moderately filled --That's easy to carry

But 2 bags i get it, i'm not a monster. If he's double bagging it i'd have no issue
