Is this reported as fact somewhere ?  That all the players he played with have been ?  Numbers given by tour say roughly 50 % vaccinated.  So I’d say it’s hard to believe the good fortune that all were.  But maybe so.

at any rate. Is it Also said that there’s no transmission after vaccinated?

Good grief.  With that I’m out.  I’ll go cut some grass or something.

I can’t believe that we’re now back to the double entendre of “ 6 ft safe 5 ft 10 unsafe “ and at the same time saying 6ft for today would be unsafe. It’s double talk anyway you splice it.  If he was safe yesterday. He’s safe today.  I’d argue that per common sense he nor anyone he played with is “ safe “ yesterday or today.  Yet only one is excluded.  This will never pass the sniff test for common sense.

It wasn’t 100% confirmed what was safe or not yesterday until the second test came back according to the Tour. It is interesting that the second test came back positive right as Rahm was finishing his round. Was the Tour covering for themselves if they knew Rahm’s second test came back positive before the conclusion of the third round so as to give them justification for Rahm being able to play his third round after an initial positive test?

once he tested positive on Monday, they could have DQ'd him then but to allow him to play AND keep testing him was asking for what they got...either you are clear to play or you are not

Again, from the Tour:

On the evening Monday, May 31, the PGA TOUR notified Jon Rahm that he was subject to contact-tracing protocols, as he had come in close contact with a person who was COVID positive. Per the TOUR’s COVID Health & Safety Plan, Rahm was given the option to remain in the competition and enter our tracing protocol, which includes daily testing and restricted access to indoor facilities. Rahm has remained asymptomatic.

Rahm has tested negative every day, but his most recent test – which was performed after the conclusion of his second round (rain delayed) and before the start of his third round – returned positive at approximately 4:20 p.m. ET while Rahm was on the golf course. The PGA TOUR’s medical advisor requested a confirmatory test on the original sample, which came back at 6:05 p.m. ET, and was also positive.

If you have the vaccine, and everyone else on tour does, they can just all play and not worry about it because, as you pointed out, it prevents you from getting sick.

Things are complicated by some, or many it would seem, not getting it and they mood to do testing and tracing and all this crazyness.

In Rahm case, it’s odd he got it twice? Is this really established? Really Bad luck for him there

Plenty of people have got it twice. It’s not unusual, especially if he got one of the variants.

Just an educated guess here, but the ONLY reason for the oft repeated 6' rule is because most everyone knows what six feet of distance looks like without thinking about it. Based on reports I've seen of people contracting it from recirculating air conditioning systems and airborne particles spread from someone no longer in the area, my guess is that they don't have a clue what the proper distancing should really be.

The circular reasoning (or lack of) is astounding.

If he wasn’t removed from yesterday’s round after the positive test, because they simply told his playing partners to social distance, etc., then that’s all that’s necessary for him to play today!

If yesterday’s playing partners don’t need to quarantine because they’re vaccinated, then Rahm can play today with any vaccinated player.

Unless the vaccine isn’t an actual vaccine and doesn’t stop one from getting/passing the virus...in which case, his vaccinated playing partners from yesterday shouldn’t be out there today.

Tour officials can stand 1 foot away and put their arms around him while informing him of the danger, but he can’t play golf 20 feet away from another player.  Oh...they were wearing masks?  The Rahm could simply wear a mask.  Oh...they’re vaccinated?  Then why are they wearing masks?

Around and around...

Your post make sense but it would be too complicated to document all that into a protocol

Instead they made it easy

Get vaccinated and you can play.

I’m talking about today.  So you’re saying they tested them last night and got word before now so Colin etc could play ?   Even if that’s so. I doubt it’s accuracy.  They probably won’t show infection till around tonight , no?  Tour talking huge risks on one hand , and slamming the hammer down on another.

I assumed they tested Rahm on Wednesday and just got word  yesterday, which is why he got to play 3 rounds.

Incorrect. He was in contact tracing all week. Been tested daily. The test was taken Friday after his second round with the results found late yesterday afternoon.  I’m guessing players he was in contact with yesterday are now in contact tracking protocol themselves.

Popped back in as I had this thought.

suppsed in 3-4 or so days some of his playing partners come up positive , how do you then feel about the tours policy to let them play today ?

im personally in favor of a policy that allows them to sign waivers and play untested.  But if we’re going to test and monitor, I can’t understand why we aren’t airing on the sides of caution ?  Only reasons for that is less blowback , and less $ lost having the then 10th place guy get a free win today.

It seems that we now have confirmation that the confirmation test (to insure the first test wasn’t a false positive) came in with only a couple holes left to play.   So the PGA prudently tried to protect Rahm from the unfairness of a false positive.   Good for them.

While I don't understand Rahm not being vaccinated to protect himself, his family, and his fellow players, I’m going to give him credit for probably self disclosing that someone he had close contact with had COVID.   I’m also going to assume that Rahm did the right thing and informed the people in each of his groups that there were questions about his health that required daily testing because he had not been vaccinated.

My wife’s 94 year old Dad is vaccinated and so are we.  We also don’t associate with anyone who is not vaccinated.  This Rahm situation is hopefully a lesson for everyone that this pandemic is not over yet and that there are still potentially serious consequences for not continuing to evaluate potential exposures.

Yes, it can get complicated if you have not been vaccinated. So the bar, if you have not been vaccinated, is

positive or negative.

If youre vaccinated, you don’t have to worry about anything.

Is that correct?

All the guys know this and they made a choice.

Now, it may be the case that some guys did not have access to the vaccine early enough to have had both shots plus the two weeks?

I don’t know...

I’d have made them DQ me , in hopes their protocol hasn’t been carried out perfectly at some point , which would put them on the hook liability wise for his lost wages. If they aren’t squeaky clean from start to now on that he’d have a case.  I bet they aren’t. Nobody is.

this win will have an asterisk by it from now until eternity.  Charles Barkley could win with a 6 shot lead and  his handicap from here.  They’ve basically stripped him.

Hey, Rahm is my guy.  I'm not happy about this at all.  However, he made a choice that came back and bit him in the backside.  He knew, or should have, that he could test positive during the week and would be forced to W/D if he did.  He tested positive and out he went.

At first I felt for bad Rahm but after hearing Jim Nantz talk about his young people weren’t eligible depending on age and location for vaccine that is why numbers are low. So I researched and Arizona where he resided opened up eligibility for everyone March 22nd. No one to blame but himself but he seems to be taking it like a professional.

With Rahm out this telecast is beyond boring.  I'd rather watch flies procreate than this snoozer of a tournament.

In addition I’m quite certain the tour had vaccination sites as well. No reason to wait for state eligibility.

This was my understanding too.  The vaccine doesn’t keep you from getting it. Just lessens symptoms.  And thus if you have it , you can pass it.   Which is why I question the vaccine having anything to do with the tours policy.  I think that independent of thinking that you should get the shot.  I’m simply thinking of transmission.

According to Dr. Fauci, people who are vaccinated can't get enough of the disease to pass it along.  He probably means on the average and not that it can't happen ever, but who knows?.  Of course, something that isn't mentioned often is that some vaccines are better than others.
