You can be vaccinated and still test positive. The same thing happened recently to Bill Maher.

 

Whether you like this result or not, the Tour’s protocols are why we got to enjoy golf when other sports were sitting it out.  Blaming the Tour for this result is ridiculous.

What I find very concerning is the IF he had been vaccinated and the contracted Covid that throws a whole lot of new questions in the mix. That is not an unknown although rare happening. At this point whether he was or was not is pure keyboard speculation. Hopefully we'll find out from a reputable source soon.

While I feel badly that he had to withdraw, the tour has rules and those rules have been accepted by all parties involved. If, as is highly likely, Jon is not vaccinated, it is an unfortunate but just outcome imo. He knew that by being on the contact trace protocol if he tested positive he would have to withdraw. Bummer because it looked like was ready to set records, but rules are rules, he agreed to be bound by them, and if not vaccinated, he knew he was always taking a big risk.

In hindsight, I think the Tour will wish they had had the policy of: Isolate him and let him play his final round by himself

The withdrawal is too extreme. There has to be a compromise/middle ground.

The first positive result was at 4:20 pm, they tested the B sample which came back at 6:05 pm local when I believe he was on 18 already so they informed when he finished the round.

I’d have made them DQ me , in hopes their protocol hasn’t been carried out perfectly at some point , which would put them on the hook liability wise for his lost wages. If they aren’t squeaky clean from start to now on that he’d have a case.  I bet they aren’t. Nobody is.

Just read that Rahmbo is out for the rest of the Memorial.  He tested twice and was positive for covid both times.  He was leading at 18 under.  Purse is 1.67 million for the winner.  What a huge let down for him.  Probably already got vaccinated but asymptomatic.  Hopefully he gets over covid and returns strong.

This is why I basically stopped following the tour and seldom post here anymore. Terrific game played by a incomparably ignorant demographic, especially at highest level. The majority of comments are exactly what I thought they would be. Anyone doesn't take the vaccine or rationalizes against the vaccine is a 36 handicapper in every category that matters.

At first I felt a bit bad for him, then I thought ‘imagine being so wealthy that you could decide not to get vaccinated and risk upwards of a million dollar payday.’

Rahm making that choice is like him giving the ultimate “screw you” to science. So I guess good for him in that respect to be privileged enough to risk that income. 
I actually really like how the PGA Tour is allowing freedom of choice and not forcing vaccinations while having protocols in place for positive tests. Sometimes the choice you make just doesn’t work out in a particular moment, but be thankful to live in a country that allows that freedom.

The event operates under rules that are agreed upon by all involved. 
 

This is similar to a sticky equipment DQ…like accidentally finishing your round with a putter that was barely bent but only noticed later. It sucks but rules are rules.

Did Rahm only get vaccinated at the Memorial because he had close contact with someone who has covid? If Rahm was two weeks past his second vaccine shot and tested positive, would he still have lead WD?
