2021 Pro V's (better than past years?)

Ok, I'm convinced the current 2021 models are a game changer for me.

 

In the past I have waffled between V1 and V1x.  I found that I got a bit more distance, better trajectory, and could work the ball more with the V1x, while the V1 felt a little "heavy" for me.  But when it came to short game and putting, the V1 was clearly the superior ball.

 

I've been hitting the new V1 version and I'm finding it's the best of both worlds.  Anyone else agree or disagree?

I beg to differ. They feel soggy and fly too low. 2017 model worked best for me.

I chose the Pro V1 this year after playing Pro V1x since 2013.

 

Like you I had always benefitted from the higher trajectory and possibly a little more spin with Pro V1x. For me the Pro V1 in 2013/2015/2017 flew a little too low to hold greens and the lower flight always seemed to cost me a little carry distance with my driver.

 

This year's Pro V1x seemed to fly a little too high (thought I'd never say that about any ball) and maybe even spin more than I need. But the 2021 Pro V1 flies a little higher than past Pro V1's so it was what I chose to replace the 2019 Pro V1x.

 

That said, after about 50 rounds with the 2021 Pro V1 it started to seem like a lot of my approach shots were coming in kind of low. The ball spins plenty so they usually held the greens OK but I'm back to missing the higher flight of Pro V1x. So I'm kind of second-guessing my switch to Pro V1 this year.

This.   Had this discussion with a playing partner a few days ago.  I told him the 2021 ProV1 feels like you are hitting a water logged ball.  It is not hard feeling like a Left Dash, but rather it feels "heavy".

 

I think it is the worst tour ball I have played in a very long time.  Feels like hot garbage, has no pop to it, and doesn't particularly stand out in the short-game.

I think the new Prov1 is great and honestly I don't see that much difference between it and the v1x for me.  I can play either and be fine.  Both are great balls

the 2021 model is REALLY REALLY good......its noticeably "softer" feeling but not mushy.....its flies low and far and is a much better all around ball than the AVX......i can almost see Titleist getting rid of the AVX because the Prov1 flies just as far and low for me.  and the feel is pretty close....

Recently picked up some 2021 ProV1x’s and whoa. I haven’t played ProVs in years, just couldn’t get along with them initially and never gave them a proper chance, but this ball is really really good.

 

I’m not sure how much the ball has changed or my game has changed over the years but I have had my lowest rounds of the year and some of my longest drives by a lot. Played most of the season with last generation TP5x and Bridgestone RX but if this ProV1x keeps playing like this I might become a Titleist shill.

I have about 36 holes with the new ProV1.  Nothing there for me.  I think it has to be one of the least exciting tour level balls I have played in several years.  I realize I might be the only golfer on the planet that feels this way, but this ball does not stand out in any way, shape, or fashion. 

 

On to the new ProV1x for Sunday.  Just picked up a sleeve for the round.

 

I usually play the older ProV1x or updated AVX with a sprinkled in Left Dash on occasion.

The sound of the 2021 Pro V1 off the club is (to me) softer than I ever recall in any Pro V1/Pro V1x version. That's the main thing that's different this year (although I think they may have nudged the ball flight a notch higher too).

 

But in terms of ball speed and spin with driver/irons/wedges I don't think it's anything other than the usual "benchmark" Tour ball as always. The one everything else gets compared to. That's kind of the definition of unexciting, lots of other balls are more or less like it by design.

Can't quantify it, but the 2021 ProV1 appears to be longer - feels great around the green. Really like it.

I also love the 2021 Pro V1.  The Bridgestone BX and Pro V1x are very good balls but I do value the feel of the ball and the Pro V1 feels so much better to me than a lot of the other premium balls.   Some folks don't value feel and I could see that for those folks, there isn't any special about the Pro V1.  Truth is most 10 and under handicappers could play any of the top 10 golf balls on the market and shoot very similar scores with any of those balls.

After staying away Pro V1 in previous generations because the higher flight of Pro V1x suits my game better, with the 2021 models I switched to Pro V1. The difference in trajectory seemed less than before and I just really liked the new Pro V1.

 

After about 40-50 rounds with it I realized for the first time I can remember that softer sound off the irons and wedges had made the ball seem more desirable. In reality, it was much like previous versions. Worked fine but the little bit more "boring" (as Titleist describes it) trajectory wasn't doing me any favors. 

 

Something about the 2021 Pro V1x just didn't seem to work well for me so I actually switched to Chrome Soft X which seemed pretty similar to the 2019 Pro V1x in distance, spin, height and even the louder sound. To the extent I care at all about the sound of the ball I've always preferred the models that are clicky rather than quiet. Not sure why I had that brief moment of flip-flopping this winter and spring .

 

P.S. One of my favorite balls to play, ever, was the 2012 Bridgestone B330. Man was that thing loud off the driver!

the 2021 V1 is amazing. While we always knew the full lineup is great, this years version may be the best all around ball i have ever played. It works everywhere....this years V1x, ballloons for me.....i dont like it

Forced myself to continue to play the New ProV1 and the New ProV1X this week.   I might have to back off my stance about the new balls thanks to your and NB's insistence.  I liked the new ProV1X from the jump, but the regular ProV1 is growing on me.  This is the first round this morning where I was "this ain't so bad, I can see what the guys/gals are talking about".

Nah, just messing with ya. Still got two dozen Pro V1 sitting on the Great Golf Ball Shelf ready to go any time I need them.

tell me about the CSX.....i use the regular chromesoft and i really like it but have heard great things about the X......

In my personal experience these last couple months [insert all sorts of warnings about me being a high handicapper] I'd say the CSX is like a more clicky version of Chrome Soft that holds greens better. 

 

For my own self, I am quite certain CSX holds greens better than Chrome Soft. For my game. I can't say for sure but I think it both spins more and flies higher. 

 

This may sound like pure fantasy [again I'm only describing what I see] but coming from the 2019 Pro V1x, to me the Chrome Soft X is a closer replacement than the 2021 Pro V1x or 2021 Pro V1 were.

 

Titleist changed something in the current Pro V1x and I don't care for it. And the current Pro V1 still flies a bit too "boring" although not as much as in the past.

Is there a way to tell previous Chrome Soft Versions from the current version?  I found one the other day and hit it a few times.  It was noticeable shorter off the tee than either new version of the ProV1-ProV1X.

The 2018 version had one solid black triangular "arrow" on each side of the words CHROME SOFT X. 

 

The 2020 version has a little < or > mark inside the solid black "arrow" on either side. Sort of double-arrow instead of single-arrow on each side.

Is the new 2021 ProV1X softer than last year's ProV1X?  I love the 2019/2020 ProV1X and (to me) it would be perfect if a touch softer. Their web site says softer, longer, blah blah blah.  What is actually noticeable?  How do the two models compare for spin and trajectory too?  Thanks.

To me, it is a definite yes.  I have gotten used to the new ProV1, but the ProV1X might be the best golf ball I have ever played and is my full time ball now.

 

For comparison, I considered the Snell MXT-B and the 2019 ProV1X to be pretty much identical.  The new ProV1X is noticeably softer than the Snell.

 

In terms of spin and trajectory compared to previous model, for me I don't think there is anything significantly different.

 

I am a 4 index with about 90 mph driver speed for reference.

 

It is certainly worth just buying a sleeve and testing it out, sounds like it is what you are looking for, but "feel" is totally subjective.

I recently picked up some (2021) V1Xs to play and they felt ok. I do get too much spin coming into the green outside of about 90 yards.

 

The (2021) V1 has been great. Feels good, but I can count on my ball stopping and not backing up much at all coming into the green. 

 

I'm strongest from 160 yards and in, not a great driver of the ball, which may play a part in me not minding the feel off driver.

 

Anyone else lean towards the V1 for this reason?

Why is it so hard to believe that somebody with a swing speed in the 90s can be scratch or low handicap.  Have you never seen a guy who can hit over 300 with no control that can't touch scratch...but the chart..but the chart says he should be awesome..  

 

I have seen plenty of guys deadly from inside 100 and can score awesome.  Has nothing to do with their swing speed (as long as their swings speed is reasonable)
