This Daytona is way better looking than the Ten or Indy (or Spider EX). I still think the Spider X turned out pretty great looks wise.

I think it's probably just the case of OEMs trying to provide similar clubs for contracted players and 14 club 1 OEM customers. If a staffer picks up a TaylorMade, PING or Scotty and likes it they'll ask for it to be emulated.

 

I'm sure these guys can come up with wacky new designs, but they just don't sell, even if they provide benefits (like the Truss), this looks safe and offers a familiarity.

There was a putter in the 70's which was somewhat similar.

 

It was essentially a black "half-moon" head, made of something other than metal (I suspect nylon) with a channel on the underside around the back perimeter which was filled with something - lead, metal, something to add weight.

 

There was a "ball-wide" white stripe down the enter, perpendicular to the putter face.

 

And there was an "aiming line" down the center of the stripe, but not necessarily perpendicular to the face.

 

The lines were square, or to the left or right to varying degrees.

 

People would be "fitted" into the head which they "aimed best," using the aiming line.

 

Shaft went into the head behind the clubface too.

 

Someone used it on tour for a bit & had some success, which sold them some putters.

 

It didn't last (obviously). 

 

These Toulons def. look like an entry into the "Spider-esque" market.

Waiting for Toulon to release in retail just a regular milled face (fly-mill). Small batches seem to have these sometimes.

 

Otherwise the finishes and shapes are really good.

I appreciate the mention, but I disagree with your statement here.  There are many wonderful designers at Callaway/Odyssey that are still doing great original work.  I may no longer be part of that team, but I am anxiously awaiting (like all of the members here) to see what cool new designs Sean and his team will come up with this next year.  The new Odyssey Toulon mallet is a very clean and versatile design that I am sure will get a lot attention when it hits the market.  If this is any indication, the reigns are in good hands!

As for Buckeye Billy, you are totally entitled to your opinions.  I’m all good with it.   I’m on here as frequently as I am to understand what golfers think. And your opinion is as important as any other.  
 

I will say that I’m beyond excited about the products that we will be introducing over the next several months.  
 

And in the end, golfers all over the world will vote with what they buy and tour players will vote with what the put in play and win with.  As you might guess, I love our position and our future.
