Gotta Brag a Little

I've been playing fair - mediocre - crappy since I took some lessons earlier in the year. Today I finally got all that out of my system and for the first time in over two years I broke 70, shooting 69 on a par 73 course. Three bogies and 7 birdies and it was one of those days where the ball actually went where I wanted it to, and the putts all looked like they had the line painted on the green. Bonus is it is only the second time I've shot my age, this time one under it. It's a short 6043 yrd course, but we're all old and don't hit it like we used to. It's funny how these rounds come out of nowhere. Nothing in my previous rounds or range sessions gave any indication I would be able to hold it together for a complete 18. These days are one of the reasons I keep coming back and mostly inflict abuse on myself.

My wife is not a golfer. but she knows how handicaps work. I shot a 67 in a senior interclub match. When I got home and told her, she said, "You'll regret that!" Great playing!

That's a damn good round for a 7.8... Congrats. 

 

Some days are like that, and hard to reproduce.  Best I can do on a short 6k course is even 72, on an 72 rated course.

Follow up.

 

A couple of days after this round I posted a decent 76 (par 71) on a different course. Today I played this course again and while the force wasn't as strong, I shot another sub par round with a 72. It's been several years since I've had to sub=par rounds back to back on a course, probably back when my handicap was around 3-4. I used the same ball for both rounds and I retired it today - the first ball I've retired that wasn't a HIO or something else epic. While I know it will all come crashing down before long, its sure fun while it lasts.

I don't care how short the course is...par or better is always tough!

 

I remember playing a par 27 and having so much pressure on the last few holes to not mess it up : )

 

I have a friend who has been 1 shot away from shooting his age (he is 70). He is a 5 index and I am confident he will get it done this year...

Here is my brag. On 12/31/21  I had a hole in one and shot my age in the same round. A 78, I am 79. Good way to end 2021.

As to the ace I’m not going to tell you the club and distance because you will laugh at me for being such a short hitter.

No laughs from me. One of the guys I occasionally play with is 80 and he doesn’t hit it very far. He plays the forward tees and shoots under his age 9/10 times - sometimes by 10+ strokes. We’ll be on a 120+ yard par 3 and he’ll hit a 5 iron to inside 12 feet almost every time. I have play my best to have a chance against him.

Crash! After taking a couple of weeks off for the holidays I played today and shot the worst score in probably 10 years. Three triples and two doubles amongst several bogies to post a sweet 89. First tee shot was a 135 yard par 3 that I shanked OB - the first of 5 penalty strokes. What a great game.
