Better than UW? OG Adams Super Hybrid XTD.

Adams Idea Super XTD Hybrid at InTheHoleGolf.com

I forgot I had these in my basement... Somehow have 2x 21 degree and 2x 17! I guess I forgot I had a set and bought more? Who knows the mind of a ho.... lol

Anyways, I blew off the dust and started to hit it in my basement and wondered if anyone still uses these. I thought about trying the new UWs but these are almost exactly the same! I stopped using it back then when everyone was wanting smaller footprint from their HYBs, but these have age well like fine wine!

Loved these - I had one about 8-9 years ago and it was a beast.

I had the 19* for years and stupidly got rid of it last year.  I used a 5 wood last year, and enjoyed it, but I miss that 19* Super Hybrid.  I bought the next model (white one) and it's good, but I think the OG grey one is better.  I'll be keeping an eye out for a grey one to put back into play again.

I have the 17.5° as my "5 wood" it's one of my favorite clubs to hit. I find it very versatile and will often use that for a 2nd shot especially if I've hit a terrible drive and need to get out of trouble

I used one for years as a driving iron - loved it from the tee.  The shaft broke at some point and struggled finding a suitable replacement.  When the prices dropped dramatically on the original Callaway Super Hybrid, I picked one of those up.  Definitely shares that same DNA and is a fantastic tee club for me.  That said, I only use it for that as I do not get a high enough launch off the fairway.

I keep looking at those, but just got an Adams DHY l prefer the smaller profile, but those are pretty small, too. I will likely still get one. 🤣

And I happened to run across the exact 19° OG XTD at a local golf shop in the DFW area after work today for $25 and it’s in really good shape!  I’ll be swapping a shaft out and installing it tomorrow for my round of golf on Sunday!

I never played the XTD model, but did have one of these in the bag for a bit several years ago:

Adams Idea Black Super hybrid review | Golf Monthly

First time I took it on the course it was amazing. Reached two par 5's I'd never reached before in that round.

After that, I don't think I ever hit another straight shot with it. Just left, left, and more left.

I love hybrids and play them well, but I never could figure out how to hit that SuperHybrid. It continues to languish in a closet.

Just bought a 17 degree XTD with the fubuki shaft…will test against my Tour edge c721 of the same loft.  I’m very curious as to what the results will be…

Please report back! This could be interesting.

Exactly, tour edge is no slouch when it comes to fairway/hybrid distance, so will be interesting to see how far we’ve come in 10 years

interestingly, if the adams wins out, my bag will shape up to have a 6 year old fairway (2016 m2 tour issue) and a 10 year old hybrid (adams xtd) alongside one of this year’s drivers…I feel like the more recent drivers have become noticeably better, but there are some older fairways and hybrids that still can’t be beat.

The shaft doesn't do the head any justice tho.

I have a few of the older Adams heads laying around or shafted up (my 17* XTD has a black Matrix X-Con shaft in it) and they are all still relevant, just would prefer adjustable and that is why my TS3 hybrid gets the spot.

if it helps, I’ll try both, and then put the Tour Edge’s shaft into the Adams…not really doing anything but messing around until we really hit spring anyway

I was just not ever a Fubuki fan, like many others as well.  Unless doing the work yourself, I personally wouldn't spend money to swap shafts to try a Fubuki out.

Im a long time player of the XTD and recently picked up the UW, and they are not all that similar. The XTD compares better to the super hybrid. Built for distance and low spin. The UW is much easier to elevate, and sort of floats a bit. Much more spin. Not ballooning, but height flight, stepper descent angle. Much more preferable for me hitting on a super long par 3 or into a green on a par 5. The XTD is a better tee club if you are looking to lay up, or a great max distance club when just trying to advance the ball.

That was my thought when I first saw this thread.  The XTD is nothing like the UW.   Not really sure I'd even say its' like the Super Hybrid, never got on with the XTD so it never made my bag but the Super Hybrid has.

An old post but I had to agree.   The original xtd ti was and still is a fantastic club. The ti face, velocity slot and carbon crown does not look at all out of date today, in fact they look visionary and they still perform better than most of the newer competition.
That model xtd ti were favorites in my bag for many years and I refused to change them until something as good/better came along.
I tried other Adams hybrids that followed,  LS and final model xtd ti.  They were good but the original model always ended up back in the bag.
I finally changed them for the original callaway super hybrids also (17 set to 19 and 20 set to 22) which do share that dna and are great.

I just splurged on a paradym super hybrid 18 (19) and that continues the line (dang they are spendy).   Head shape, size and look very close to the original cal super hybrid and perhaps a more neutral flight/bias.  Quite impressed so far though only a couple of rounds played.  About the same distance as the 5 wood and easier to hit/shots should be a bit more accurate.

Have lent one of the Adams (21) to a novice golfer and he says its his favorite club.
