First round with the GW-8 FT and 7-5 FTX complete and they performed well. I don’t have a 4 iron as it wasn’t in stock. Even tho I wasn’t striking them well I still managed to hit them as a 1 cap according to Arccos and I am a 6 handicap.

Compared to my 2020 FT with the same shafts the FT appeared to fly about the same distance and the FTX about a half a club longer.

So the new FT is 0.5 degrees more flat than the 2020s and FTX 0.5 more upright than the 2020s so I left them all at stock. Going to play a new more rounds and get them bent the same or at least confirm on a LM that they are good as is. Only thing not stock was I ordered the 7 iron FTX 1 degree weak to help with the gap between the 8-7 iron.

8 iron was 165 with the 2020

7 iron was 175 with the 2020

Now 8 iron is about the same but 7 iron is about 180.

Once I get proper data I will post it if anyone is interested.

Haven’t done a proper session on my Mevo+ yet.

I usually golf twice a week but not in summer with kids home. I have finally played my 2nd round with the new irons.

I had my best ball striking round of the season (30 rounds so far) and shot a 73 which is good as I am a 7 cap. Three putted from 20ft for birdie on a Par 3 and three putted again from 25ft for eagle on a Par 5. I haven’t hit the Par 5 in two since last year but this was the first time I was a let to take an iron to it, hit my 5 iron 210 👌

I am really loving the FT irons, especially my 9 iron. I hit it 6 times today and flushed it every time but 3 times they were pulls, 2 stayed on the green and 3rd pull was just off tho. The distance was spot on with every FT iron today tho. I don’t feel I had that much distance control with the 2020 FT and the softness is better. I think it may sound more clicky but definitely feel better.

I only hit the FTX 4 times today, one the rough grabbed it so was close to a chunk, hit 2 small chunks off the tee but they still went 205 and 210, all still straight of baby draws and then 1-2 grooves low into that Par 5 from 210, so it landed 5 or so yards short but went straight and scooted up.

So far very happy with the irons even tho the lie angles are different between the clubs. No noticeable issues yet, very playable. Very happy with the changes from the 2020 FT so far.

Update - Made it to into the final group at my club championship this weekend with only 4 round with the new irons. Love the irons and the combo set is amazing for me. Only have 2 par 5s but hit all four of them with a 5 or 6 iron from 195-230 yards out.

Really, really like the looks and feel of these irons.

They just don't spin enough for my liking personally.

Any way to get the spin up outside of just weakening the lofts?

As always, late to the party, but...

I had the original 2020 Forged Tec and loved them - except for the (all too frequent) pull draw I would hit that would send the ball 20+ yd over the green. Moved to the Zx7, and playing the best golf of my life so obviously as a WRXer it is time to change clubs to try to get an extra 10-15yds in my irons 🤣 The 2022 FT version (not the x) has my attention.

Anyone play both that can comment? Do you ever get random flyers, especially on pulls?

Handicap .5

Current Bag:
Big Dogs: G410 for Fades, G425 for draws

FW: Ole Blue but stays on the porch most rounds

Hybrids: G425, Cobra  King Tec
Irons: Srixon ZX5/7
Wedges: PM Grind 54/58

Moneymaker: Ping Heppler Tyne 3

Rock: Srixon Z-Star Divide

... Been cold and rainy here in Phoenix. Two winters ago it didn't rain from Nov thru the first week in June! Probably had 10 days of rain since Nov this year. Course has been soft and wet with mud balls on most every shot. So I put my Forged Tecs back in the bag and had 18 straight pars today. Still don't love the 5* gaps but with these soft conditions the FT's had no problem holding greens and usually just one hop and stop within a foot of the ball mark and short irons backing up a few feet. With the cold conditions the ball just isn't traveling as far so the 1/2 club distance the FT's produce over my MIM's was welcome. They also allowed me to put my 18* TP DI back in the bag since the 5 iron is only 1* weaker than my MIM 4 iron.

... Doesn't look like the weather is gonna get hot, and dry out the course anytime soon so I may play the FT's for awhile. They do not have that soft dense feel of the MIM's but are surprisingly soft for a hollow head PDI.

I’ve never given Cobra a chance, but I’m intrigued by the FT X. Hit them once and had good numbers. I was shocked to see them graded by Maltby as “conventional” despite having a VCOG of .710.

Im pretty sure the Maltby numbers are wrong for this iron.  They just don’t add up. FWIW, I think they do have a lower COG than the 2020 Forged Tec.  I tested them back to back over about 50 balls on the range.

Saw these in the classifieds today. I tested the new Forged Tec X in store and liked them. Other than looks, how different are these ones in comparison?

I have these Forged Tec Blacks. They're a multi material head but they are not a hollow head like the 2020 and 2022 versions. that's one major difference. I have not hit the newer two versions so I cannot give a direct comparison, but I am also interested in one because I may want to update to the 2022 version.

Been playing Ping I25 irons since 2014.

Went to local shop to demo irons.

Got fitted and hit Cobra FT and P790’s the best, they were both a revelation with smash factor of 1.45, crazy overall numbers.

When tired, P790’s a tiny but easier to hit.

‘Bought both sets and both have way too much distance variance than I like.

Have hit 8 anywhere between 180 and 140, not fun.

‘Just sold the Cobras and thinking of selling P79-‘s too but loved the fact I could hit Cobra 4 iron 240 off tee, game changer.

Yeah the 4 iron is money.  I have zero desire for a utility iron or hybrid now.

Are you able to comment on the center of gravity of the short irons between the Cobra and P790?  Is either better on thin shots?

Finally got a chance to hit the 2022 Forged Tec today and it’s impressive. I think I took so long because I couldn’t stand the 2020 Forged Tec, but the newer one is so much better. Feels better than p790 or p770. The Cobra and ZX4 feel similar and that’s a best in class feel IMO.

Now that the updated King Tour is released, anyone looking at a Forged Tec/King Tour combo? Had a chance to see the new King Tours in hand today and I like the look of it. A bit more compact than the last one, excellent overall shape and the soles are not too wide.

They have them listed on Carls golfland? Just wondering what you’ve heard about these issues because I was looking at purchasing that version. Thanks.

Yeah, I was too - I tried to place an order with Discount Dan's and they let me know they were informed by Cobra on Friday (3/10) that the release was cancelled due to quality control issues. Carl's probably hasn't updated their site yet, I don't know.
