Ping Driver/Woods 2023?

I see 425s all the time.  I have three in my group of 5.

I like the sound of the LST, MAX not as much. In fact, i dislike the sound of the carbon drivers.  That muted, thud is weak sounding.  When I hit the 425 I know when I caught it and when I didn't...feel and sound wise.

Not like it's the old Nike SQ line or the G line...I added a TON of hotmelt to that one, still put a ring in your ears if you really lit one up.  Never hit that one indoors.

Agreed, the LST sounds good to me, the Max on the otherhand sounds like an empty can being hit 😄

Wonder what people would say today about the old Cleveland Hi-Bore or the Sq Nike in terms of sound today....

I like to put my old L4V in play about once a year just to aggravate certain people with the sound....It still is about as good as anything.

I ordered i525 last week. Stock Project X shaft, black dot and only real adjustment was adding swingweight. Was told they will ship on or about 3/24. I'm a glass half full guy or very naïve.

I've heard the G425 LST being hit a few time on course..  While not ideal, it's certainly more tolerable than the MAX.

...the MAX sound is kind of a joke between my buddy and I.   There's a point on my golf course where a cluster of 3 tee boxes are within 100 yards of one another and one day this old timer leaned into his G425 Max and it was almost hilarious.  It sounded like he hit the ball with an old steel Tonka Truck on the end of a shaft.

They seem to be off to a good start for 2022 with the i525, PLD putter line with a dedicated website and the Glide 4.0 coming soon.

Those will all be duds in my area. Ain't nobody gonna pay that much $, especially for an Anser which is not a Scotty or a wedge which is not a Vokey.

I am a high handicap, and I will take fairways over sounds any day of the week with my G425 Max.

So the G425 MAX is remarkably better than any other driver when it comes to you hitting fairways?  Nothing else on the market can get you there, and it's actually responsible for lowering you handicap to where it is now?  And if the MAX didn't exist, you'd be an even higher handicap?  That's what I'm taking away from your post.

My comment was in response to someone questioning Ping’s ability to bring new product to the market and fulfill orders in a timely fashion. Ping seems to be off to a good start this year in that regard.

For me yes! Of all the ones I tested, the G425 had a tighter dispersion pattern. Although I lost some distance compared to the other drivers, it was the most consistent. My iron play and chipping is where I lose a bunch of stokes, and I am not a long hitter. If the G425 didn't exist like in your example, I would have chosen the next best in dispersion pattern, that could have been a Cobra or TM SIM2. I am not on the PGA tour so not hitting it 10-15 more yards and taking less OB's actually helps me have more fun.

They play what is popular and not what is a overall better driver!  Look at players that aren’t contracted for clubs, they play PING much like players play mizuno for irons.

Most people don’t understand that Taylormade pays professionals (not under contract) $1500 each event (may be everyone they tee it up) just to play their driver.  For someone who isn’t a big name player that plays in 3 events a month and plays 8 months that would be a 36K just to play a black and red driver.

I am not bashing any other driver or company, he’ll I have hit ALL of them numerous times each year but for some reason “I” always keep coming back to PING.

Yeah, the driver is a little pitchy but when you hit outside on the open course it’s not that bad.  Yes, at a driving range or indoors it’s a little louder but so are many drivers.

Plus no customer service will ever beat PINGS!  No major company OEM will!

just my 2¥

Ping has always done an amazing job of designing clubs that perform. The 425 series of woods is really good, but havinf played both, I prefer the G400 LST to the 425 and the G400 Max to the 425 Max....

They sounds and feel better and the smaller LST profile performs just as 425. The G400 max spins a little more than the 425 Max for me, but forgiveness is a wash

Great!  Glad the G425 MAX is the key to lowering your scores.  There isn't a club in my bag that's actually responsible for decreasing my handicap.  It more comes down to what I'm working on in my swing, how I'm feeling, what I ate or didn't eat (ha), and how much I'm playing, mixed in with a little "rub of the green".

I've tested everything and if TM stopped making drivers and I had to ditch mine, I could run through a few shafts and and get the TSi3 pretty much right where I am with the TM.  Just comes down to looks, sound/feel, and general what I felt like buying at that moment.

I've been ho'ing clubs for years and I'm pretty much the same handicap I was back then.  Maybe a 1-2 points worse because I'm not playing nearly as much.

Plenty of guys play Ping drivers here in Texas.

I played Ping for 30 years and loved them.

But I have to say that my PXG 0811X is the best that I have played in a long time.

Ping G430 10.5, Ventus Red 60
TM 16.5 HL Wood,  Fuji Red TR 70
TM 7 wood,  Fuji Red TR 70

Ping G430  Hybrid # 22
PXG Gen 6 XP irons 5-GW with MMT 95 shafts

TM M4 54 & 58 Wedges

Odyssey Versa M5  Putter

I don't care who plays what  - but there are people in this thread who say that the PING drivers are not pleasing sounding - enough that they won't play them.  And there are some who don't mind the loud "empty coffee can" sound.  And that's fine.  I can only speak to my preferences.

It's such a simple fix for PING and I'm pulling for the company to resolve this - I'm a huge PING fan and I would buy their drivers if they paid a little more attention to acoustics.  The Rapture series, the i20 and i25 drivers all sounded great.  For the last few years I've played iBlades and still play a G425 hybrid.

I was watching this driver shootout and the tester claims "I won't play the PING because of the sound".

Good shootout regardless:
