OWGR are massively skewed in favour of PGA Tour events so I'm not sure whether its relevant in this argument.

 

Iirc, Matt Wallace won 3 times on the Euro Tour in 2018 and picked up less ranking points than a PGA Tour journeyman (cannot remember who) who finished 3rd in a mid-ranking PGA Tour event. Opening that closed shop has got to be good for world golf surely?

I’m watching the PGAT golf right now and the leaders tee box had 8 fans following them (I counted) 3 volunteers and a cameraman.

There weren’t 15 more all the way through the hole. As if that isn’t bad enough, people who live there can walk right from their backyard onto the course and watch for free if they want. Apparently they don’t.

If that doesn’t tell you the Tour needs to contract, nothing will. If LIV keeps taking big name players more of their fields will become weaker, and we’ll be watching more weeks like this.

Players will be like NFL QB’s player x got y and I am better than him so I expect y+.
 

I think a lot want to see how the first season plays out. Greg saying the field is locked in for next year is the biggest BS I have heard in a while. He is simply telling players that they decide who and when you will join. Going to be a crazy off season I believe. Which is fine as something need to happen when it is colder.

Also, to be self funding within 18 months all but guarantees they’ll likely have, or already have, a lucrative US broadcast contract to compliment their already established global partners within the next six months. 
 

We might be seeing the opposite side of the Tiger effect. The PGAT milked that guy for everything, got lazy, and is now on the ropes after a competitor hosts two “exhibition” matches. If folks want to be upset at anyone it’s the PGAT for not innovating and properly stewarding the Tour’s storied history. If their business model breaks it’s not because of LIV, it will be because their mismanagement.

They're in a rain delay, you're watching yesterday, or that's what I'm watching.  Some early action from this morning.

Amanda talking to Chesson Hadley, not a big name, but he said he had taken five weeks off before the Travelers.  What might the LIV bosses have to say about that?  That is the difference between being independent or self-employed and having a boss.

The TOUR doesn't need to contract.  Those places still make money from having TOUR events, fans enjoy having an event in their backyard, and a host of charities benefit as well.  Not every event on the schedule has be a major, A class event.

 

And the guys that are fighting to keep their card want these events.  Reducing events mean fewer chances for those guys to play.

This has to be one of the most ludicrous comparisons in a threadful of very ludicrous comparisons.

 

Do we want to mention that the tee times were drastically moved up to try and avoid the weather? So when you are watching these early holes, the tee times went from 650a - 830a local time this morning. Weird. There arent a lot of people out watching golf at 650 am? That IS odd - and definitely a very normal comparison to make.

 

I've watched the first 6 holes from the leaders so far and the only time I've seen them not have fans around is on the holes/greens where there aren't areas roped off for fans.

And Cantlay turned down $80 million b/c he needed Xander to hold his hand and jump as well ?  Funny ...

 

Even if the other Aussies were to defect, the only one who would be missed is Cam. And I'd be surprised if Cam jumps when he is already making bank and would be playing silly golf when he would still be playing against the best on the PGA Tour.
