LIV Tour Discussion Thread (*** NO POLITICS ***)

Anyway, back to golf

John Catlin has just won the Asian Tour event in Riyadh to go top of the OOM (winner gets a LIV contract)

Had a shocking couple of years where he lost playing rights on the DPWT and then AT but has now won twice in succession

Pretty good player who has won 3 times on the DPWT, shot a 59 in Macau and broke the AT record for consecutive holes without a bogey with 74

Only if it gets 90k on day 4

I am watching the Asian Tour from Riyadh atm & there’s more spectators there 😅

*Interest in LIV is highest in Australia, but globally, the chart shows interest tanking every season

Rahm and Cam gave no boost, it’s very sad 🤣

IMG_2547.jpeg

*interest in the PGA Tour remains consistent every season to season.

If you think that the PGAT is doing well then I have an iceberg to sell you

Their new partners are hedge funds so good luck with those graphs of yours

Sorry, I forgot that you were an expert in South Australian town planning legislation

Nope, nor are you - but happy to read a link about how capacity was determined and why it couldn’t be increased if there was $ to make any necessary changes.  They are already spending taxpayer money to make this happen and did last year.

LIV pledged to give $100 million to charity through its charitable organization. Have they done so? I can't even find any evidence that any sort of separate charitable organization was ever set up, so it appears that any sort of charitable giving would be done through LIV itself and therefore free of scrutiny from prying eyes. LIV could pledge to give $100 billion, but it doesn't mean it's happened.

Thankfully this thread has a public charity auditor on hand lol

The Masters chose to not have an active app this year.  Coverage could be watched via their webpage but anything else needed to be streamed from a subscription service.

It had to of accounted for some of the drop in viewership this year.  There was no way I was signing up for espn+ or another + service just to watch the Masters on my tv, I was able to watch on my laptop and cast to the tv.  Others probably watched something else since the Masters made it difficult to watch compared to years past.

SS put on a great show.  It's too bad that it was not available to everyone.

Everyone probably doesn’t want to watch.  I am willing to bet an overwhelming majority of golfers, who all have some disposable income if they play, have a cell phone or iPad and Wi-Fi and smart TV.  That is all that was needed.
Load the Masters app for free and stream from phone or iPad Masters app to TV.  If they are both on the same Wi-Fi it’s simple to do.

Hmm, think he will move the needle for LIV better than a Rahm or DJ?  Tells me something about his game when an American doesn’t try for the PGA Tour.

See Phoenix which has been far & away the most successful PGAT tournament this year

Well, the people want what the people want. You just have to control them.

Just noticed LIV put up the YT vid of its highlights from last year at Adelaide to promote the runup to its “signature” event. After a little over one day - 2.6k looks. After 12 hours highlights of Scheffler’s round yesterday - 58,000 looks. Even on its “platform” nobody cares.

No one is interested in golf commercials, whatever tour it is.

And the gov’t wouldn’t allow a bigger event? Of course it would - LIV has a ceiling.

No...South Australian government has the Major Events Act legislation 2013. A committee determines the amount of people for all events in the state based on guidelines determined by the act.

Um, yes.

As I said, gov't (not necessarily the act itself) is involved and can allow capacity to increase.  But you might want to actually read the act, lol.

Apart from getting certain regulatory authority for events which is the main purpose, in this case the LIV event also gets (surprise) . . . access to a fund of government money for the benefit of the event.  Good old Australian venues, by the way, don't get the kind of money from LIV/PIF that some of the U.S. venues have seen - local spending, larger government spending and local volunteers have been leaned on heavily by the rich LIV masters and Norman.

It's already been reported that capacity is increased for the event this year (not done by virtue of the major events act and not because some language in the act magically changed since last year) because changes have been made, i.e. more grandstand capacity as one part, to allow there to be more people at the venue and more tickets sold.  Of course, there are guidelines but things don't work quite the way you suggest or someone else above was suggesting.

You hate LIV, have probably never watched it (and never will), and add nothing to this thread other than drivel such as this, so why post here?

Stick to your safe space in the PGAT threads where you might be able to comment on something upon which you have knowledge

I don't hate it, I just don't care about it and yep, haven't watched a minute of it.

Seems like any time facts enter the equation you default to this stuff - most of the people posting here about LIV do so because the narrative in favor of LIV tends to "skip over" facts more than a little bit and rely more on the ad hominem.  Kind of Norman-esque in a way, but not productive IMO.

Not everything is about the PGAT

There’s a thread for that so stick to that if it’s all you care about

And here I thought all of this was about the LIV tour….their players…and the quality thereof.  Is there a primer somewhere that says what is not allowed to be discussed?

Or is it just that anything that could be perceived by you as negative about their exhibitions is not allowed?

You’re commenting on a tour that you don’t watch & upon South Australian planning legislation without having any knowledge of it

Facts aren’t your strong point

Please explain why the PGAT is even remotely relevant to him winning an Asian Tour event

I assume you know that he’s never played professionally in America

Never? Very little success but certainly not never.  Which answers the question.

And yet he’s a much better player than most of the field in that b grade event being played this weekend

Probably just prefers to play in Europe & Asia
