Player of the year controversy ahead? *Hypothetical*

Very good chance Cam goes on to win the FedEx cup. We all know he’s signing with LIV.  How will golf world react if the tour and players lock out this resume?

-Tournament of Champions

-The Players

-150 open winner

-FedEx Cup

I’m anticipating a HOT debate in the weeks ahead of this occurs. Scottie has had a very good year as well, but Cam’s would be epic, the best since Koepka’s 2 majors.

Scheffler already has 4 wins including a Major. Cam has 3.

Cam could sweep the Fedex Cup playoffs winning every even by 5 shots.... and he has zero, zero , zero chance of being named player of the year as long as it seems likely he is going to LIV.

But how long until that Scheffler swing just falls apart...

The lesson to be learned," I told my golfer later, "is don't be afraid of the player with a good grip and a bad swing. Don't be afraid of a player with a bad grip and a good swing. The player to beware of is the one with the bad grip and the bad swing. If he's reached your level, he has grooved his faults and knows how to score."

All I know is that footwork is going to become harder and harder to replicate as he gets older and his knees age.

If Cam wins tomorrow and wins the FedEx overall, his year is a lot more impressive then Scheffler. I would go as far as probably giving it to him right now.  The Open and Players tops a Masters win.

Well said.  Best thing I 've seen seen the stack and tilt.

The fix is in!

The fix turned out to be Cam couldn't handle a couple of hecklers and pulled the  "medical card" to withdraw.

The press has asked so many questions Cam now has a pain in his a**.

All he has to say is yes or no and the question goes away. If you leave a vague answer you get what you get.

I think there are a few that could win POY  by winning the FEDEX Cup but the two most likely are Smith and Scheffler.

Do you have to win a major to win POY? What if Will Z runs the table now and ends up with 3 wins and a second at the PGA and US Open. Plus he had two more runner-ups. Might be tempting.

Still a lot of golf to be played. Now with Smith out at the BMW it becomes less likely as he only has one chance to stake his claim.

Couldn't handle, or has $100M reasons not to bother? POTY and FedEx cup champ obviously aren't things he cares about more than $100M in his pocket, so why go through an ugly and prolonged break up if it's clear it's over?

I like him as a golfer quite a bit and wish he wasn't making the jump, but since he is I agree he should just pack it up and go now. It's better for all parties concerned.

This doesn't really pass muster. If someone decided they need/want that level of money, then its clear the money is the goal. Not playing the BMW..sure he can pass on the potential 2.7M pay day, but passing on the 18M for winning the fedex cup doesn't make sense
